So, we seem to have filled up the 4th thread. Anyone want to join me here?

OP posts:

So I hurt my foot in my old trainers, not quite sure what happened but I've now got some lovely Salomon's that were on sale which should be good. Definatly off out tomorrow for run number 2. Nice to see a few of us at a similar stage, let's keep each other motivated in this cold weather. No idea about insoles though, sorry.

UpWithPup · 15/01/2016 07:51

It's so cold. Today is the first day I'm really thinking 'do I REALLY have to go out?'!

PoppySeedRoll · 15/01/2016 11:41

I should be doing the third run of week one today but have woken up with aching throat and laryngitis and general ick. Meh, I was actually looking forward to it.

butterflybuns · 15/01/2016 12:02

So I didn't go either. It's brass monkeys out there! Pup shall we go out later? Get better soon Poppy.

RJnomore1 · 15/01/2016 20:53

After being sidetracked for a bit I went out for my first run of 2016 today. Started at week 5 run 1 and handled it no bother. Really pleased. It was very cold though and as it was dark I was scared of slipping so it was sloooooow. But I did it!

UpWithPup · 15/01/2016 21:33

Well done RJ. I also went out & realised it was super slippy. BUT I was pleased I went out.

RJnomore1 · 15/01/2016 21:46

Well done! I have the advantage of being on the coast so it was only just getting skippy as night fell and puddles froze over.

deadwitchproject · 17/01/2016 12:22

Well done on the runs everyone! It's such a great programme, I always think I'm never going to finish this run and always surprise myself when I do.

I've gone out for runs in the cold with a baseball cap, hoodie and gloves and snot running down my nose and hated it but the feeling I got when I finished more than made up for it. Never thought I could do it but I've just finished w7.

I always find the hardest part is half way through. It's a mental struggle but I push on hating it and 5 mins before the end I feel euphoric. Having the right music makes a massive difference too.

2ndSopranosRule · 17/01/2016 14:51

Hi all, can I join?

For some daft reason I've signed up to do a 10k in May and not having done much running before I'm going to approach 5k first. I've downloaded an app and I need trainers - my current pair doesn't fit is my excuse!

Looking forward to starting. I swim regularly at the moment so I'm not desperately unfit but this is all new.

Most of the people in my life think it's hilarious that I'm attempting this but I'm very determined!

deadwitchproject · 17/01/2016 16:09

Congratulation on signing up for the 10K and welcome!

Fingers crossed I'll be joining you around that time but still got a couple of weeks to go on the 5k. I'm hoping it will start to get addictive soon.

Lozzapops · 19/01/2016 21:58

Hi all. Am going to join you if that's ok, I actually (stupidly) started couch to 10k this month, having always hated running, but really wanted to push myself.

However, have encountered problems, wondered if anyone else has, or has any advice? Have done the first two weeks of the programme. Am desperately unfit, but fairly slim-ish, so not carrying loads of extra weight. For first 4 or 5 runs, it was hard, but felt like I was managing it. Then, end of week 2, my knees are suddenly shot to pieces. Have had to completely stop, should have been into week 3 this week, but am struggling to walk (especially up/down stairs), let alone run. What can I do?! I don't know quite why they hurt so much. Feels like ligament/tissue pain, rather than muscle or bone, but what do I know?! Sharp, stabby pain on the inner edge of both knees, although one hurts more than the other.

I know chances are some more rest will help, and I'll be able to continue, but just feeling so disappointed, as had actually felt very motivated to do this. Worried it will be an ongoing problem, and I won't get to the 5k, let alone 10k.

Any words of wisdom?!

RJnomore1 · 20/01/2016 19:20

Week 5 run 2 and I've realised I no longer feel like I am dying every time I run and I no longer can't wait to stop. I actually ran on past 8 minutes both times.

Might I just be cracking this?

I'm still very very slow though but I'm steady!

2ndSopranosRule · 22/01/2016 20:56

My app wouldn't work so I just ran! Managed 7 minutes without stopping which I'm pleased with. Fiddled with it when I got in so I will have a go at w1r1 tomorrow!

deadwitchproject · 22/01/2016 21:05

Well done everyone!

w8 completed...one more week to go. Can't wait for it to be over, will have such a sense of achievement.

Stellar67 · 24/01/2016 14:15

Hello, may I join? I've just started week 2 and think I'll need some moral support along the road.

stopfaffing · 24/01/2016 14:37

Hi everyone I am another Cto5K newbie.

I am on week 2 just now and did week 1 six times. I intend to do all weeks at least six times Grin. I am doing the one I got off NHS Choices website.

I go out early in the morning and my two cats come with me, running up and down the road with me (but somewhat bemused lol). I am carrying several extra stones Hmm but am working on that so hoping that as I lose some of the excess weight, it will become easier.

I am worried about injury stopping me doing it (as mentioned on a post above) because I actually enjoy it (who knew?)

I am due to run again (week 2, 4th run) tomorrow morning and hoping it isn't raining.

I haven't, and don't intend to, put my name down to do any fun runs as it may put pressure on me to overdo it.

deadwitchproject · 27/01/2016 07:33

Wow stopfaffing can't believe you're doing each week 6 times! You many decide to revise that as you go through and feel your stamina build. Good luck anyway!

w9, r2 should be this morning....gulp!

Stellar67 · 27/01/2016 08:20

Six times sounds a bit extreme. Are you sure?

I missed a day yesterday. I was just too tired and couldn't face it. Will pick it up again tomorrow.

Stellar67 · 27/01/2016 08:21

Sorry posted before I meant to. Deadwitch how have you been finding it! Well done. Such a feeling!

stopfaffing · 27/01/2016 13:18

dead and stellar, no, I meant I will do each week six times instead of three times Grin. I do it every other day and in between do a walk round the block. I am taking it easy and seeing an osteopath in a couple of weeks.

Stellar67 · 27/01/2016 19:05

Ahhh that makes a bit more sense.

I managed out. Week 2 run 2 done. Feel good.

deadwitchproject · 27/01/2016 19:34

That makes sense now Grin still, see how you go when the runs get a bit longer, 3 times a week will probably be enough as you'll need your rest days.

thanks Stellar I've got just one more run to go! I have an enormous sense of achievement and well-being. I haven't felt like this since the birth of my children.

I can't wait to finish and then will probably start the 5k+ programme from the NHS. Just this week the addictive feeling is starting to kick in. I remember feeling so tired on some days and really needed the rest days but my stamina has increased and running is so much easier now.

Good luck, I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Stellar67 · 27/01/2016 20:01

Deadwitch thank you. That's great feedback and you have given me some good insight.
I also do spin so I think that it's maybe too much but I love spin (I still feel like a weirdo saying that) so c25k may take a bit longer.

Enjoy your not so final run. It's just the beginning really!

deadwitchproject · 29/01/2016 18:22

c25k done! Grin

Feeling exhilarated and will now undo all the hard work by celebrating with a bottle of Prosecco tonight Wink.

I think the plan is to carry on running 3x a week and then attempt 5k - 10k in the summer months.

How is everyone getting on?

ToothlessAndPointless · 31/01/2016 09:32

Well done deadwitch!

I've not posted on here before but I'm a newbie to this. Just done wk1r2. Had 2 days enforced rest (no childcare) and am itching to get out again tomorrow.
