So, we seem to have filled up the 4th thread. Anyone want to join me here?

W9r2 - one more to go!

I had a rather chastening discovery, though. I know I run really slowly, so thought my task for when I've finished w9 would have to be speeding up a trifle. My phone tracker had recorded some wildly different distances, so I stuck on endomondo in the background to be more accurate. I discovered that in the 40 mins total period I only covered 3.28 km! What's worse, I looked back through the history and discovered that when I went through a phase of trying to make myself walk faster to work instead of ambling, I'd actually done 3.33km in 31 mins. So I'm not kidding, I really do run slower than even I walk! Ah well - there's always a new challenge... Smile

Dismalfuckers · 12/07/2015 16:00

Disaster has struck. I have a toe injury; second toe and can't really walk, never mind run HmmHmm

Within the last month, it's been stood on by a horse, have injured. It playing football, and dropped a wheelie bin on it. It's been a bit sore , niggly, but nothing desperate.....until yesterday.

It is squint and a bit swollen and extremely painful.
Am gutted, I have tried so hard to get here, one run to go and am now hobbling. So very sorry for self, that'll learn me to be a smug sunrise running fucker ????????

weaseleyes · 12/07/2015 16:29

Poor dismal! I hope it doesn't keep you out of action for long.

DontDoItDi · 12/07/2015 17:47

Great bramshott! Glad it went well. I am dithering whether to try R3 tomorrow or have another go at R2 first. I suspect my ankle will really hate the full 20 minutes although it feels just fine right now.

So sorry dismalfuckers. Hope it gets better fast.

EmberRose · 12/07/2015 19:28

Went straight from w5r2 to 3, just go for it Bram

I covered just over 4km which was 7mins 53 per km so just a little quicker than you bram I felt really good today actually ! But another dog chased me which is the second in just over a week. Heard something behind me and it was trying to jump up at me and I actually squealed as I was so scared!!

Sorry to hear you are injured dismal hope the toe gets better fast

EmberRose · 12/07/2015 19:37

Although do most of you follow the NHS one? I just downloaded this to see the difference- w5r3 goes straight to a 20min run!Shock I have 5k runner which is two 8 min runs and next time is two 10 min runs

DontDoItDi · 12/07/2015 20:13

That's right EmberRose, I'm doing the NHS one and it goes straight from 2 8 minute runs to a 20 minute run. Though I didn't struggle to do it before I hurt my ankle, the preparation really was good enough. But it was scary!

I am sorry about your dog hassles. You cope so well!

monkeymayhem · 12/07/2015 22:18

Oh Dismal that sounds nasty. I hope it heals quickly for you!

Well I did my first run on a treadmill today which was a bit odd. Having been flying all day yesterday it was great to actually be moving my legs and definitely made me feel better. I didn't use the app, just made myself run 30 minutes, and didn't do any warm up walking or cool down. Pretty tricky getting the speed right and had to keep increasing the pace so will probably try starting off a bit faster next time. I think there is a 5km setting on the treadmill so might try that and just see how long it takes me. Luckily I was alone in the gym, if there were other people there I may not have run for so long! Not really sure what distance I covered but chuffed that I can run for that long and not keel over at the end of it!

lbnblbnb · 12/07/2015 23:28

Week 9 Run 1 done today and it was ok! I only managed about 2.4 miles, so got to work on my speed, but really getting there.

Dismalfuckers · 13/07/2015 11:03

Thanks for good wishes and well done all you runners!

Looks like I will be leaving this thread for a while, I had to go to the doctor today as foot so sore can't walk anywhere never mind run.

He thinks it's ligaments, so Voltarol and strap up and no exercise ????????

weaseleyes · 13/07/2015 16:03

What bad luck, dismal, when you were doing so well Sad

GlowWine · 13/07/2015 21:03

Dismal what a shame, my commiserations, wishing you a speedy and complete recovery!

Bramshott · 14/07/2015 10:52

Poor you Dismal. It's rubbish when an injury knocks you for six, just when you're really getting into it. Running is a long game though - you will return!

As planned, I redid W5R2 this morning, and tried to extend the two 8 min runs a bit. Mapmyrun tells me I averaged 7mins53 per km, so I'm feeling really pleased with that. Still putting off W5R3 though Wink!

DontDoItDi · 14/07/2015 12:08

My ankle was stiff again yesterday morning so I did W5R2 again. It was do-able but stiffer afterwards. Have to see how I feel tomorrow and decide which run to try.

Glad you're doing well with W5 bramshott.

weaseleyes · 14/07/2015 19:32

Woohoo! I've graduated! Finished wk9r3 this morning.

In some bizarre attempt at self-sabotage I nearly couldn't make myself go out and do it, in spite of not having missed a single day in the whole 9 weeks. Luckily I got over myself.

DontDoItDi · 14/07/2015 21:00

Congratulations weaseleyes! Grin

bathgirl · 14/07/2015 21:07

Just done W5R3, I'm in shock to think that I actually ran for 20 minutes without stopping. Feeling very proud of myself and DS who ran with me Smile[smil

DontDoItDi · 15/07/2015 17:13

W5R3 done, helped by nice cool clear weather this morning. Feeling really good about running 20 mins again at last! Best thing is, my joints feel pretty much OK. I'm going to stick with W5 for a bit though, be on the safe side.

Great bathgirl, well done you and DS Grin

GlowWine · 16/07/2015 17:03

congratulations to all you W5R3 achievers! Flowers Enjoy the sense of achievement!

musicmaiden · 17/07/2015 18:25

well done all the w5r3 folk - it feels great! And hope the injuries get better very soon.

Pleased to report that I did w9r1 and did 3.3 miles in 30mins! That is 5.3K! Shock I felt like I was going a bit faster and even managed a little sprint in the last 30 secs, but was very surprised by that.

Doubt I'll manage it again Grin [gr

GlowWine · 17/07/2015 22:25

musicmaiden congratulations you're doing great. I'm scraping by the 5k mark in very nearly 30mins now (30.18 today but 31min two days ago). It will get better with time, and to think I was at the w5 stage only a month ago.

Bramshott · 18/07/2015 22:41

I managed W5R3 this morning and it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared! In fact the app stuck halfway through so I think I ran for 22 or 23 mins Shock . I can feel my leg twinging a bit again though. Really hope it's not going to stop me.

McButtonwillow · 19/07/2015 12:43

Well done everyone! I haven't had much time to post recently but have been checking in to see how everyone's getting on.

I completed week 9 today- can't quite believe how far I've come. Still not hitting 5k but managed 4.5 today so hopefully not far off Smile.

Will keep posting here as I find the support invaluable.

suze28 · 19/07/2015 21:50

Evening, hope you don't mind me joining. Newbie to it. I did W1R1 (is that right?) today. Didn't quite manage the last run/walk cycle but am determined to keep going.

GlowWine · 20/07/2015 10:07

Well done bramshott welcome to the club!
And hi suze congratulations on getting started! Just keep it going at your pace, you will get better in time.
