We are a long-running thread, but very friendly - please come and say hello, and chat about PBs, tourism, progress towards tee-shirts and anyything else about parkrun Smile

Welcome C0smos!

chutneypig · 06/07/2015 18:54

So just how tough is Lanyhdrock Thursday?! I might have to rethink my tourism thoughts for the summer!!

Hello C0smos! Your course sounds challenging - great to hear about parkruns all over the world. We had a tourist from Melbourne this week and one from Washington last week, lovely to think of the global community.

It's been the highlight of my year how much my DC love parkrun. Although DS came out of school and asked to go for a run tonight. He wants to get under 9 minutes at the junior run next weekend. I think he's going to finish us all off, he's very focussed when he's got a target in mind.

feetheart · 07/07/2015 10:27

Nuff said :o

Feet I will keep away from that one. Me thinks.

Blatherskite · 07/07/2015 17:23

I've done 36 different events. Lanhydrock tops my 'toughest' list so far!

Will have to give Tring a go soon as that's meant to be almost as vicious.

I did a 5k cross country run today actually. Will need to get a few more of those in first I think.

ThursdayLast · 07/07/2015 17:30

Hahahahah feetheart that picture is EXACTLY how it feels!

Every damn week I get to that lowest point and think 'what the hell am I doing?' Grin

ThursdayLast · 07/07/2015 17:32

Also my splits are hilarious. They're always like
Mile 1 - 7.45
Mile 2 - 9
Mile 3 - 13.30

chutneypig · 07/07/2015 21:54

Gulp. Is it one circuit?!

ThursdayLast · 07/07/2015 22:07

Haha yes! You only have to do it once Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/07/2015 22:26

EEEEEK!

Good job we tend to holiday in North Norfolk Grin

Can't find a matching profile for Tring but there is this very pretty graphic

That is a very pretty graphic, if a trifle terrifying Grin

feetheart · 08/07/2015 08:14

There is a lot of 'up' at Tring, especially the first 1k+, but the 'down' is brilliant - think-arms-out-trying-to-fly running :o Then comes the 'undulating' bit and the final uphill near the end that is a killer. However it is very pretty and DS's favourite parkrun so we will be back :)

Are you over our way this w/e Blathers? It's our first parkrun curry night on Friday so could be a good time to do well as locals may still be full :)

cinnamongreyhound · 08/07/2015 10:02

Have you done sheringham while holidaying OhOneOhTwoOhThree? That's supposed to be pretty tough!

steppemum · 08/07/2015 10:36

I don't think I will be trying Thursday's parkrun just yet.

Thursday doesn't every other parkrun seem like, well, a walk in the park?

Did 7km this morning. This is a lifetime first and I am ridiculously proud. Followed dh 7km route, and got lost, so ended up running up a very long steep uphill road. Dh said he avoids it all the time and was impressed I ran it! (see doesn't bode well for Lanyhdrock)

This is the only time I have been out this week, so looking forward to parkrun.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/07/2015 11:01

I have done Sheringham once (last summer), and plan to do it twice when we are there again this summer.

I was slow, but I often am the first time I try a new one, and it was half way through my holiday last year so I was very relaxed and had probably had more wine in the preceding week than in the preceding six months

They kept talking about "heartbreak hill", which from memory was a bit of a scramble up a steep bit of path, but I didn't think it was that bad Smile

Sewerby is one of the hardest I've done - out and back along the cliff tops, it felt like running into the wind whichever way you were running Grin

Yay! A Tshirt! I must have a look and see if there's any progress on my red 50 one yet.

steppemum · 08/07/2015 11:35

fab T-shirt there cinnamon

Blatherskite · 08/07/2015 12:13

I often describe Lanhydrock as - 1.5 miles falling downhill trying not to break an ankle, half a mile of flat and then a mile back up hill trying not to puke. There is a 'lovely' 500m or so where it flattens off before the finish line but I was so broken by then that there was no way I was sprinting!

God knows how Thursday does it every week!

Ashton Court in Bristol is 1.5k uphill then you turn round and run back down the hill again. I could've kissed that marshal at the turn around point! Grin

I'm not in charge of the plan for this weekend feet and they've changed it Sad We're going to Essex now!

feetheart · 08/07/2015 12:32

That's fine Blathers as I can't hang around this w/e. Would rather have the opportunity to eat cake and chat.
I have a friend who does Ashton Court as her regular parkrun, unsurprisingly she got a PB when we did Fritton Lake :o

feetheart · 08/07/2015 12:38

Excellent t-shirt cinnamon :o
DS is waiting rather impatiently now for his 10 t-shirt link to go live - he's up to 26 now.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/07/2015 15:22

How cool is that t-shirt?! Brilliant!

Nothing on my profile, although it's telling me I did my 50th run on 19 July 2014, and I think they are prioritizing people who have been waiting longer than a year.

Blatherskite · 08/07/2015 15:54

What size did you get cinnamon? My junior parkrun ED ordered an Extra Small and it's too big for her!! I've got a normal Tribesports t-shirt in a Small that fits nicely but that's their slimmer 'athletic' cut and the parkrun shirts are bigger I'm told.

I'm still waiting for the link to go live so that I can order my 100 shirt but have no idea what size to get now!
