Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

Gaahh! Tried for 10 miles yesterday. Just happened to find a really neat route that would have been really nice. Don't know why I thought I'd manage it as I have just started low-carbing which always knocks the stamina on the jead for a few weeks. Managed just over 2 miles, then walked and ran the next 4 miles and walked the rest before calling my H to pick me up, So disheartened even though I knew it was a tall order. Booked in for a 10k in about 4 weeks so will have to buck my ideas up before then,

Congrats feetheart -brilliant1 I did my first 10k last october and beat my PB by 5 mins inspite of some bastard hills!!! Feels good doesn't it? Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/03/2015 20:48

congratulations feet Grin

Suzannewithaplan · 08/03/2015 20:56

I've heard it takes a while to adapt to training with low glycogen stores Irian something to do with upregualting the fat burning mechanisms.

Do you find your stamina is just as good as normal after the few weeks adaptation?

I eat a pretty high carb diet but I always train fasted/glygogen depleted (mostly because of GI issues) I generally start running 12 hours after my last meal and am fine for 2 -3 hours

HalleLouja · 08/03/2015 21:48

Well done feet didn't you join the running club mid-year? That's amazing (but not surprising at all). Well done on the PB too. I think I need to do a flat 10k. Did you beat your FH time 10k time by 2 minutes?

I got an 18 second PB on 5k yesterday and ran nearly 8 miles today. So that's 11 miles I need to add.

435.81 miles in total. Wow. Its only been a week and bit.

LaughingM · 08/03/2015 22:11

Wow, lots of catching up to do and lots of successes - well done everyone!
I've been avoiding the thread this week because I did something to my hip/thigh (poss IT band?) last saturday and was in quite a lot of pain with it sunday/monday so was freaking out a bit that I'd done something serious! So holding off running (hence thread avoidance - didn't want to be tempted) and lots of ice and stretching. Started to feel a lot better so I did a very slow 2 miles on friday and when that was fine a slightly faster 3 tonight.

Hoping that I can get back to my long run next weekend, otherwise I think I'll be panicking about not getting up to HM distance in time!

440.81

originalpiratematerial · 08/03/2015 22:29

Sympathies LaughingM, I've also been taking it easy since doing something to my right lower leg last Sunday (soleus muscle definitely involved). Tried a gentle run today - the first 1.5 miles were fine but after that not so good Confused.

Still, 3.1 miles from me.

443.91

originalpiratematerial · 08/03/2015 22:30

Congratulations feetheart - that's fab!

feetheart · 08/03/2015 22:35

Official results are in and I beat my PB from October by 2mins 40 Shock Shock I was also 11th out of 49 in my age category. Maybe I can do this running lark :o
It was bl*y hard going though and will be difficult to beat. Still, I do like a challenge :)

AggressiveBunting · 09/03/2015 05:20

Well done to everyone on their fantastic times and distances. I'm STILL coughing my lungs up and DS now has gastro (and DH has buggered off to Jakarta) so i'm praying that i don't get that as well because that would be the last nail in the coffin that is my 50k sky race on Saturday (still currently planning to start). Haven't run since the race on 1st March so I'm comforting myself that at least I'll have fresh legs. Currently sipping miso soup and ignoring the reminders from Movescount to add my (non-existant) moves. Going to try to do an easy 5 miler tomorrow plus a big stretch and roll just to prime the pump.

actiongirl1978 · 09/03/2015 08:00

irian these things happen, I have often started out planning to do one kind of run, and ended up walking home or slow run when I should be doing intervals. Hope that you get back into your swing soon.

I'm adding 11 from yesterday and two from today. I did something to my knee though, over and above the usual IT pain. I think it is just a niggle, also I had a blister on the opposing side of the big toe on the same leg so I think I may have been running badly on a camber - I have never had a running blister before.

Went out this morning for a very slow/walk 2 just to shake things out. I think I need to stretch my hamstrings more, I always forget about them!

Well done Feetheart

Hope you don't catch that bug aggressive.

Quite a few running injuries on the thread recently. Hope everyone is fit to run again soon.

Anglaise1 · 09/03/2015 10:37

Yes, be careful everyone with your injuries. Take a few days off if you need to. Some useful info here When to run, when to stop.
Aggressive, take it easy this week, I'm sure you'll be fine for your big race and if your last race was 1st March that was perfect timing.
6.1 from me this morning
463.01

PoppyShakespeare · 09/03/2015 10:59

For some reason I feel ridiculously grateful to be able to run at all today, am quite adaptable in the face of injury/illness because shit happens doesn't it? But I have really really really missed it. Can STILL feel complaints from most recent calf strain but am working on using my heels more and this spring will be Project Underperforming Glutes :)

4.1 from me to make 467.11

TheSkinnyProject · 09/03/2015 13:02

3.1 to add.

Total 470.21

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/03/2015 16:08

3.5 hot and dusty miles (am in forrin parts this week). Really energy sapping, especially after a long day's work and mild jet lag, but am very glad I went out.

473.71

twobambinos · 09/03/2015 16:35

Well done feet and Halle on the pbs feels great doesn't it. I had one last September in 10km and it felt amazing.

I especially love when you do the same race a second year and u get new pbs ??

Irianofway I have also had runs where I have phoned home for a lift. And many more where I thought I might have to phone home. Not to worry the next run will be better and as you said your diet is probably impacting it. Hopefully u get used to it soon.

Cinnamon you must be busy getting ready for the new arrival best of luck with that they say being fit is great for the labour and you sound super fit.

Hm this weekend I'm super excited Grin how sad am I ?? its also mothers day this Sunday so I'm hoping for some spoiling.

ThursdayLast · 09/03/2015 16:58

Hi all,
Checking in with a horrendous mid-hen do parkrun on Saturday morning, and a restorative but wet 3.5 miles this afternoon

480.3

emummy · 09/03/2015 18:43

Mid hen-do Thursday?! Do we get more details or are you trying to forget! Well done for going out anyway.

runtothehills · 09/03/2015 19:56

Hi, checking in with 4 snowy hill miles today and 7 from Saturday. Keep going over my right ankle and starting to get paranoid about my downhill technique. Need to do more strengthening exercises!

Well done feet on smashing your pb. Aggressive fingers crossed your bug sorts itself out for the weekend.

491.3

cinnamongreyhound · 09/03/2015 20:07

We are ready I think twobambinos apart from a bit of paint on the walls which isn't essential but j have now done all the cutting in so Dh better roller as he promised grin not sure I'm that fit but fitter than I was 4 1/2 years ago when I had ds2!

I ran with my friend tonight as a stress reliever as Dh has a mild falling out (which due to hormones made me have a melt down and cry for hours and has knocked me a little) and she offered to let me get it off my chest. Was 9C and I wish id work short sleeves!! Ended up being 5 miles though and I haven't run that far since December Shock
496.3

familygermsareok · 09/03/2015 20:50

Checking in with 10.5 from this morning. Much colder so back to cosy top, headband and gloves again, so glad I did because it started to snow on me half way round! Confused. Looks like Spring has decided to go back to bed for a bit longer.

Well done on your PBS feet and Halle, that's fantastic, and absolutely smashing them too! Grin
Well impressed with the henparkrun too Thursday. Have a Wine Wink

Hope you are ok for your race aggressive, good luck to you and twobambinos

cinnamon I hope your run helped! I am in awe of you running at all at 38 weeks, let alone 5 miles! I could barely waddle up the stairs at that stage Smile.

506.8

SummerHouse · 09/03/2015 21:13

Newbie alert. I am in for a 10k in less than 2 weeks and I am not ready. Did 5k in 30 mins today and the idea of doing that twice is overwhelming. Does anyone advise building up my distance now or is it too late? I think I can get 6 more runs in allowing for rest pre race day.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/03/2015 21:23

Only 36 weeks familygermsareok Wink

Definitely go for a 5 miler between now and then SummerHouse.

SummerHouse · 09/03/2015 21:33

Well if you can do it at 36 weeks I really have to pull my finger out! Thanks Cinnamon I am going to do that.

EdithDickie · 09/03/2015 23:06

Go for a longer one Summer, will really help your confidence for your 10k. Slow down the pace a bit and you'll be able to keep going for longer.

5.3 miles for me today before work.I love getting it done first thing, felt good for the rest of the day!

Only thing is that I still have nagging hip/bum pain/stiffness. I had 3 rest days in a row and thought it was better but not sure now. Have stretched and rollered this evening and hoping for the best.

Got Friday afternoon off work to do a long run and I can't be broken for that! 6 weeks until half marathon and 2 months until 24 hour endurance thing. I can't be benched!!! Gah! Sorry, feeling a bit worried and woeful about it!
