Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

Karatekimmi I can vouch for the iron tablets. I suffered tiredness and loss of form after a lot of trail racing and HMs last summer and now take an iron tablet a day supplement. It has worked wonders.

I tend to increase the long run by two miles but do it for two weeks EElisavetaOfBelsornia. I then used to train with my club once a week (some kind of intervals or hill session), parkrun for short fast run and a 4-6mile run during the week. I was maintaining 8-10miles on a Sunday until I got pregnant.

4 mile, pretty speedy canicross run tonight, managed a 9.27 mile which I haven't done for a while!

runtothehills It was the route of the Hong Kong trail which goes from Victoria Peak on HK Island, across to one of the beaches on the other side of the island - it's a mix of trail and traffic free tarmac. We're lucky to have such a lot of country park here and very well marked and well maintained trails which intersect with each other so you have a lot of route options.

Casual 6 miler from me this morning- my friend and I forced ourselves out ahead of the holidays - 1223.27.

Re how to improve, the most time efficient way is incorporating intervals/ high temp short runs or any type of high intensity training - one of the really good trail runners here does spin and military circuits. It's more time efficient than doing a lot of really long runs and builds cardio strength - you can build endurance on one long outing a week. But, as has been said, it depends on your motivations and what you enjoy about running.

kiwikaterpillar · 17/02/2015 06:56

4.8 to add, total 1,228.07.

This run seemed inordinately hard. Might be as ran yesterday also, so no down day. The last mile was all mind over matter.
Just wanted to say thanks for the tips on calories way back when... Having upped my intake finding things much easier- for the most part (and still managing to lose weight).
Did my first trail type run when on holiday- in the Abel Tasman park. I loved it. Didn't seem as long/ hard as my brain was busy concentrating on not tripping over and the views weren't too bad either.
I'm also breaking in some new neon trainers- although mine seem to hit all

bits of the colour wheel. I look like I should be going to a rave!

feetheart · 17/02/2015 08:06

5.3 to add from me from last night's club run and no getting lost :)

I'm now experimenting with eating as had a huge 'Paula Radcliffe' issue on the previous run which wasn't pleasant. As I have always run early morning on an empty stomach (or with a smoothie and banana well in advance of a 10-11am race) I am now trying to replicate that for the evening club runs. Had porridge for breakfast then the banana and smoothie for lunch and nothing else. Felt hungry but much better during the run although had to force myself to eat afterwards as I am never hungry then (the only time this ever happens :)) Looks like I might be edging towards 5-2 which is never something I would have contemplated Shock

Rather cold and windy 6.6 this morning. Dark when I went out and light when I got back Smile.

3.25 from me this morning, lovely and sunny but pretty windy. Wasn't very fast as dd2 was too excited for her 10th birthday and woke at 4:45! Sent her back to bed but then ds, sleeping in our room as my mum is in his, woke at 5:10 and that was that! Feel a bit more awake after the run, not sure how long it will last!

orangeflutie · 17/02/2015 10:24

4.5 miles to add from me. Was lovely sunny and cold. Downside was trying to stay upright there was a lot of black ice around! So a bit slower than usual but I do feel better for going out. Spent yesterday tromping round Brighton with dds so legs were a bit stiff first thing.

Going away tomorrow so having to shuffle runs around this week but will be good to have a change of scene.

Naicecuppatea · 17/02/2015 14:45

Hi all, 3.44 miles to add from me. I am very pleased as I seem to be improving my speed each time I go out. The sun was out properly on my way back so it felt like hard going because I was hot!

I have a little lower back pain after this morning's run, can anyone suggest reasons and how to alleviate it please? I have scoliosis so am very susceptible to a painful back but I usually get it higher up, around my shoulder blade area.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/02/2015 15:04

My Dh has back problems Naicecuppatea, his first go to stretch is a mcKenzie stretch which kind of looks like a push up but isn't. I'm sure if you google it you'll find pics and videos. Well done on your increased pace.

What a glorious day! Kind of wish I'd gone for a run, but 3 days in a row is probably enough.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/02/2015 19:17

Gorgeous day here too cinnamon, the weather lady just said it was the sunniest day since last September.

4 miles from me - 1243.25 + naice's 3.44 + my 4 = 1350.69

Anglaise1 · 17/02/2015 20:14

7,5 from the club this evening. Lovely clear night, just a wind down 12 x 200m for the intervals following the race on Sunday, plus the run.
1358,19

twobambinos · 17/02/2015 20:28

Thank you all for the kind words. Back on the horse tomorrow and hopefully my long run this weekend will restore my confidence.

Well done everyone who got out today. My legs are still a bit achey from Sunday but I'm sure they will be fine tomorrow.

Have been reading over the foam roller chat we used them once or twice in Pilates. May look into getting one. I remember thinking ouch tho

familygermsareok · 17/02/2015 20:40

Hi Naicecuppatea well done on improving speed Smile.

I sometimes get lower back pain after a run, especially if I've been doing a lot of hills. I think it was just muscular from the extra use and it settled down after a while. It hasn't troubled me for a while but when it was quite bad I did a series of exercises daily to strengthen back and core muscles. I got them off nhs choices website, there is a physio guy going through them on a video. Took me about an extra 6 mins every morning to fit them in.

Sazorchard31 · 17/02/2015 21:13

A measly 1.6 from me today at lunch (before abs class), brings total to 1359.79. Was hoping to get out tonight but after getting in later, pancakes and bedtime it was already 8 and I still had to cook for dh and I, had planned to have finished running by 730.

I did do my measly miles at my target pace so was pleased with that!

Talking of eating and losing weight when running....since Christmas I've restarted running and joined the gym plus I'm.eating better and drinking less. But yet I haven't lost any weight at all! Have about 3-4kgs I'd like to shift that I put on when not running but having no success at all :(

postmanpatscat · 18/02/2015 08:43

5.5 miles to add from me after a very sedentary three days - London to Plymouth by car, sitting around at mum's, then back home by train. I was glad to get to the gym yesterday and will go again later as it's half term and I have more time.

1365.3 (as I think one decimal place is enough!)

actiongirl1978 · 18/02/2015 09:00

Hi all.

I'm adding 3 this morning a combo of a warm up at the gym on Monday plus two miles intervals this morning (absolutely beautiful, ran down by the river, a hard frost and mist on the water). The children have gone to stay with the grandparents so I am planning a long run this afternoon too! That will be my first double run day so will be interesting to see how it goes.

Feet heart - welcome to the Paula Radcliffe club Wink I managed my second poo less long run on the weekend! entirely down I have realised to lack of fibre in the diet. If I just eat carbs and pure protein I am in a much better state.

Nicecuppatea I used to have lower back pain, I found it disappeared when I got new trainers and went to a smaller heel to toe drop so I was on 10mm and I now run in 6mm and I am planning to start experimenting with a 4mm. I know other people who lost their lower back pain when they went for a smaller heel toe drop. Otherwise I would suggest some pilates 'roll downs' and child's pose positions to stretch it out.

Sazorchard I have never lost weight running. The biggest difference for me was doing two Hiit sessions a week and weight training. Running doesn't give me the intensity I need. Also with hiit, I just drink pints of wAter afterwards and can't face food!

Naicecuppatea · 18/02/2015 09:32

Morning. Actiongirl I am in awe of you fitting in two runs a day - not sure could ever manage that!

Thank you so much for the suggestions for the back pain. I tried the Mackenzie stretch last night and it is feeling a bit better today (and I am having a run free day). I was wondering about shoes as mine are probably at least ten years old. They are Nike Air Max and are very comfortable (more so than my Asics which are newer but come up quite small). I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking or what for!

Hope you all have a good day, another sunny one here.

HalleLouja · 18/02/2015 11:52

1370.5 miles including my run from running club last night.

postmanpatscat · 18/02/2015 14:39

halle should we add actiongirl's 5 miles on top of yours?

Suzannewithaplan · 18/02/2015 15:09

I make the total as follows:

1359.79
5.5 (Postmanpat)
3 (actiongirl-a warm up plus 2 miles intervals
12.75 (my miles from today)
1381.04

that doesnt include the miles from Halle because I dot think she said what they were (and I'm to lazy to reverse engineer the total to find out)

So if Halle can add her miles to the 1381.04, and Actiongirl can confirm whether it was 3 or 5 miles we should be correct?

twobambinos · 18/02/2015 15:25

1381.04 plus my 2.7 is 1383.74

Did an interval session on the treadmill for a quick 30 mins including warm up and cool down.

I don't know what the Paula Radcliffe moment is but I can kind of figure it out from yer posts. Sounds like a bit of an inconvenience. Thankfully I'm ok on that front. What do you do during a race when there are no portaloos?

Naicecuppatea · 18/02/2015 16:10

Is anyone thinking of doing the Nike Women London 10k?

Neeko · 18/02/2015 16:57

1383.74 plus my 3.8 today is 1387.54.

I had a lovely run along the windy shore front. Felt like I was almost running on the spot at some points but made it up when I turned around and my average speed was my fastest ever! Very pleased.

Suzannewithaplan · 18/02/2015 16:59

I'm too lazy to go all the way to London for a run Naicecuppa, but then races arent really my thing!
