Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

Just checking in on the new thread - just back from a week skiing so have sore muscles and a wider waistline due to fresh air & exercise driven indulgence in wine, cheese and Creme brulees :)

Running starts again tomorrow :)

twobambinos · 15/02/2015 20:44

10 horrendous miles from me from my race. I'm so disappointed. One month to half marathon and I'm seriously considering not doing it 1102.89

Will read rest of thread tomorrow I'm a bit tired today Smile

orangeflutie · 15/02/2015 20:51

Just remembered to post. Have been out most of today and away from phone.

I went out quite early this morning and did 9.4 miles. Was glad I could run as was getting worried yesterday about stiff calves. I'm fairly sure running on the treadmill on Friday has caused the stiffness, maybe a slight gait change? Hoping it will go away and I haven't done any real damage.

orangeflutie · 15/02/2015 20:54

Sounds like you had a good time standing.

MayvisHmmIt's horrible when you have a bad run. Well done for getting out.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/02/2015 20:58

twobambinos 10miles is 10miles! It was a bad run but the odds are stacked that next one will be good. You have a month to add 3 miles and taper a bit, sounds fine to me FlowersCakeWine/Brew

originalpiratematerial · 15/02/2015 21:18

A total of 15.32 miles from the week just ended. Including 8.4 miles today, which I was really pleased with, although the last mile was hard!

originalpiratematerial · 15/02/2015 21:19

I think I need a grown-up, or at least someone who can do the maths, to add orangeflutie's and mine!

originalpiratematerial · 15/02/2015 21:25

1152.33 does that look right??

originalpiratematerial · 15/02/2015 21:26

No it's wrong isn't it Confused

1127.61

Sorry Blush

Suzannewithaplan · 15/02/2015 21:45

Orangeflutie, last time I ran on a treadmill (only for about 5 mins) something went funny with my calf or ankle, didnt cause any real or lasting problems but I'm a bit paranoid about using it again...just in case.

itsveryyou · 15/02/2015 23:25

I did 8.4 today and 5.8 earlier this week ( plus a 5 mile walk yesterday with non running friend but won't add that to total) so I get that to 1141.81 does that sound right?

Two weeks to my first HM...eek!

LaughingM · 15/02/2015 23:53

Gosh this thread moves fast!

Action happy belated birthday, sounds like a very lovely day, long run included!

Aggressive well done on your race - that's a time I can only dream of!

Mayvis and twobambinos sorry you didn't enjoy your runs/races today. I'm sure the next one will feel better.

7 miles from me this morning, LSR as I've decided I am going to try and work up to a half in May. Felt challenging but good, although my knee is a bit tender now so I've had the frozen peas on it. Feel like a real runner now!

Adding that and 3.5 from earlier in the week... 1152.31

AggressiveBunting · 16/02/2015 00:25

Adding 4 from this morning- 1156.31

Kids off school this week for Chinese New Year so we're on holiday from Wednesday for 5 days. Going to sneak in a social 10k tomorrow before we go, but then will probably just have a few days off.

itsveryyou · 16/02/2015 02:30

Meant to ask, my left knee was sore from about mile 6 today, kind of muscle pain to the left of the kneecap and under it. I don't think I have a very good running technique, and I'm worried it's impacting my knees...concerned I'm going to injure my knees during the HM. I've got decent trainers which are worn in but not worn out. What can I do to protect knees over longish runs?

Neeko · 16/02/2015 07:27

1156.31 + 2.3 from me this morning = 1158.61

I had the choice of going out at 5.30am for a quick run or waiting until Wednesday. Pleased with myself that the early run won.

Aggressive I am so impressed by your time! It only took you slightly longer to do all those miles than it took me to do 4.2 on Saturday Grin

AggressiveBunting · 16/02/2015 08:18

I think you mean Anglaise! If it took you 5 hrs 12 mins to run 4 miles I'd be surprised Grin

actiongirl1978 · 16/02/2015 08:50

Itsveryyou - sounds exactly like IT Band pain. You need a foam roller (cheap on amazon) and google youtube vids to show you how to roll it. There are stretches you can do too.

Basically there is a sheath of muscle type stuff that runs from your hip around your thigh and down under your knee. It can get really tight from running. You need to find sore points above your knee on the outside of the thigh or just under your hip flexor. This will ease it if you do it regularly.

Also, no running from me. I still feel slightly hungover from my birthday (turns out doing a 9 mile run, then drinking is not a good combo!)

I figured out my trainer issue - I have the new shoe in the other colourway and the tongue is made of a more padded material so presumably my foot can't breathe in the same way and the upper is slightly different. I am so cross! Going to use it for 3milers for a few weeks and see if I can wear it in. I got it from amazon so no chance of complaining. Lesson learned. If you want the same shoe again, go to the running shop to buy it!

familygermsareok · 16/02/2015 09:08

Sorry your race didn't go well twobambinos. What happened? Did you set out faster than usual?
I used to get so caught up in the excitement in my first races I went out way too fast at the start then completely lost it, legs like spaghetti and ended up having to walk the end.
Don't give up on your hm, if it was something like the above just use it as a learning point.

Rest day for me today. Kids off school still so away to see friends for the day.

Anglaise1 · 16/02/2015 09:20

6 sociable miles this morning with a running club girlfriend, nice easy jog then 10 mins acceleration at the end. Back on the marathon training plan as knee feels a lot better. HM in 2 weeks, marathon in 5 weeks, not long now.
Action I bought the same Asics model as always, same size but my right foot is definitely squashed. I bought them specifically for the marathon, didn't try then as I always buy the same model. Lesson learned...always always try running shoes before buying!
twobambinos don't be disheartened, we all have bad races. Maybe take a few days rest, learn from what you think went wrong with your 10 mile race and I'm sure you'll be fine for the HM. Don't give up!

Anglaise1 · 16/02/2015 09:21

Forgot the maths...
1164.61

Sirzy · 16/02/2015 09:21

I'm back after an injury break with 2.5 miles

Mumonabroom · 16/02/2015 10:03

Thanks for the warm welcome! It's certainly true that the run gives you great breathing space from a 3 month old (not to mention toddler and preschooler..ha).

I'm looking to start with foam roller, but confused whether I should get the 45 or 90cm from Amazon? Which would you recommend please? I'm rubbish at stretches and figure this would make me do more to warm down.

Suzannewithaplan · 16/02/2015 10:52

?I think the 90cm would be a better bet Mumonabroom (?)

just taken delivery of my new (barbie pinkBlushHmm) shoes and am scrutinizing them minutely!
The sole appear to be exactly the same as my other pair but they feel a bit tighter on?, which I suppose is exactly what I should expect...the uppers will give a bit once I've worn them surely.

Even so I don't want to risk wearing them on today's run, I'll have to fit in an extra mini run to reassure myself that they're ok.

What a palavar! It seems mad that shoes a whole size bigger than I'd wear for non running activity suddenly feel tight ?

twobambinos · 16/02/2015 11:46

Last week just got away from me there was alot of hospital trips for my side and dh side did no exercise wasn't eating properly and my mind wasn't with it. Didn't set off too fast at all had to stop to walk only 5km in and I was struggling from about 3km. Had alot of breaks. The last ten miles lsr before this race was nearly 6 mins faster overall no stopping. I'm just disgusted.

Congrats sore lip. That's fab news.

Welcome mumonabroom ur doing great and a 3 month old baby well done.

Who had the awesome 10km time sorry cant see on my phone congratulations that was a fantastic time.

5madthibgs hope you are feeling better.

Action that sounds like a lovely birthday ??
