My legs are fine, it's my face, neck and chest that get sore. Also realised my period is due soon, joy. Eczema always plays up in the week before my period. I just look rather red and am a bit rashly. It will settle, but the cold isn't helping.

Moisturising after a run once I have cooled down is the way to go I think.

5madthings · 21/01/2015 12:13

Ooh I didn't stretch after my run, just got on my.bike and rode home and.then have been busy doing housework. I can feel my thighs, not painful but I know they are there iykwim! Going to do a few stretches I think as I need to run again tomorrow.

Mitchy1nge · 21/01/2015 12:20

talking of post-run behaviours (I do generally stretch if it was 'fast' for me or over an hour or whatever) I was a bit taken aback when running with a new friend last week who said 'oh no, I will only have about fifteen minutes to rest after my shower before I need to leave for work'. Is it normal to rest after a run? It was slow and easy for her (quite a fast marathoner) so it surprised me. I usually just crack on with riding, mucking out, whatever needs to be done although I pay attention to the need to rest in terms of getting to bed early and getting enough sleep in general.

5madthings · 21/01/2015 12:23

No resting after here, I normally get in and.have to get on.with putting madthings to.bed, dinner or whatever. I do spend ten mins doing some stretching and toning exercises normally but no.resting.

Mitchy1nge · 21/01/2015 12:25

yeah she is young and has no children or animals, and has a husband to share domestic stuff with so resting is probably a natural behaviour for such people!

5madthings · 21/01/2015 12:33

Is there such a thing as resting once you have kids?! Grin

Saying that, having sorted tonnes of laundry, tidied up, washed up etc etc I have now sat down to eat some toast, didn't have any bfast and am.starving! Then more tidying and dinner prep before I go collect madthings from pre school and school. Hope it doesn't sleet again as it's a 2 mile cycle to school. Then 2 miles home with youngest in the bike seat, got to get a tagalong as she is getting too big for her bike seat! At least then she can help pedal.

Anglaise1 · 21/01/2015 12:51

Mitchy I've never heard of resting after a run, only stretches (I'm terrible, I never bother with those) I just have a shower and get on with work, or take the dogs out or something.
Supposed to be a rest day today but am feeling super stressed about nothing in particular. Maybe 'cos I'm not running? Guilt and or missing the endorphins perhaps.

Neeko · 21/01/2015 13:34

5madthings. I have eczema and had a really bad whole body outbreak two Christmases ago. After lots of visits to the doctor (and the near loss of my sanity) I was prescribed Balneum cream in a 500ml pump bottle (it's the same active ingredients as E45 itch relief) It costs £30 a tub, but if you can get it prescribed I recommend it. It stops the itching for hours at a time and really moisturises the skin. I used to use it every day but now only use it when I have an outbreak and it clears in a few days.

actiongirl1978 · 21/01/2015 13:46

Hi all,

Checking in with 4 miles, a warm up mile, two interval miles of a minute on a minute off fast and slow, then a gentle jog back to the car. Feeling good now, channeled all your moral support while I was running.

What happened to jogging? Is that something people did in the 80's wearing leg warmers? I say bring back running leg warmers, I am sure they could make them in a wicking fabric instead of wool?

actiongirl1978 · 21/01/2015 13:46

1707.1

actiongirl1978 · 21/01/2015 13:48

Oh and on the subject of stretching, I never used to bother, but after my LSR on Sunday I stretched loads and rolled my ITB and piriformis and although I was stiff on the sofa on Sunday night, there were no aches on Monday so I think it does make a difference.

I occasionally rest before I drive to get the dc's from school which is 10 miles in the car. Nothing to do with exercising though, more so I don't drop off in the car!

5madthings · 21/01/2015 14:27

neeko will look at that cream, I am allergic to regular e45 though... My Dr will prescribe it for me I have a,massive repeat prescription list of creams!

Suzannewithaplan · 21/01/2015 14:57

after a run I mostly eat, but having neither dependent offspring or a live in partner my life is generally pretty restful:o

Suzannewithaplan · 21/01/2015 15:00

8.98 chilly miles from me =
1716.08

HesterShaw · 21/01/2015 15:06

Anyone listened to this? Poor old Heather Watson sounds like she had awful PMT and possibly pain during her loss at the Aussie Open. I can't imagine going for a run during the time of the month, let alone playing a Grand Slam. Does anyone run throughout the month?

Suzannewithaplan · 21/01/2015 15:10

I was always pretty lucky Hester and didn't especially suffer with 'womens problems' much so it never interfered with any of my fitness endevours.
Then again I wasnt a pro althete who had to be on top form for a particular event!

Now I'm old I'm free of all that malarkey, much to my relief :)

actiongirl1978 · 21/01/2015 15:12

Hester, I do. I find I have a much better period if I run the days running up to due date and on the day I start. Sounds odd, but I think the endorphins help.

Can anyone help with this one (I know I am being very demanding this week Grin) I can't do my LSR on Sunday as I am doing a 5 mile race. My last long slow was Sunday. I may be drinking on Thursday evening with some friends. Would you do two slow 5 miles tomorrow and Friday, or try and do an LSR 10 mile on Friday lunchtime, possibly after wine Thursday. Which will be most beneficial?

Mitchy1nge · 21/01/2015 15:19

am a bit beyond the menstrual joys too (we tend to start late 15ish and finish early 40ish but squeeze out many babies in between in my family) but when I did I still ran, certainly when I was last into running 2005/6 ish it didn't make a difference but didn't really suffer with aches or pains, am sure it would be a different story if it was awkward or uncomfortable

HesterShaw · 21/01/2015 15:26

I can't imagine doing so. I get awful dragging pains and pretty much snack on painkillers. The old "exercise is good for you" was something my evil PE teacher used to say! That or "have a baby" - how useful Hmm

Anyway...I'm not running today because I feel shit.

twobambinos · 21/01/2015 16:04

Had a long post written and its disappeared will be back later3.2 from me 1719.28

3.2 from me 1719.28

Anglaise1 · 21/01/2015 16:29

I think it depends on how many bad side effects you have with periods. I never had much pain or bloat so it has never been a problem. I run throughout the month and can race during a period without a problem, either. But then I'm approaching the menopause at 49 so my periods getting lighter. Can totally understand why some competing athletes take the Pill to put off periods during competitions if they suffer.

5madthings · 21/01/2015 16:32

I get horrible cramps and am.heavy, tmi. So I may skip running the first day but actually once I get going I find a run does help. It's the last.thing I feel like doing but it dones make me feel better. Luckily despite being heavy mine.only last 4-5 days.

Re running I find a long slow run the afternoon after a night out if often good actually.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/01/2015 18:05

I do Hestershaw, always makes me feel better just make sure I have an empty mooncup and fresh panty liner. Although at 29 weeks pregnant I've almost forgotten periods Wink

I wouldn't do 10miles 2 days before a race actiongirl1978, probably just 5 miles tomorrow OR Friday.

IKYTWTLYA · 21/01/2015 18:06

Thanks action,

Trainers are new & cheap. I had started with some merrell barefoot type things that I'd been using for P90. I didn't get my hair analysed as I didn't want to feel pressured into spending £60+ for something I was only a couple of weeks into.

I thought the barefoot shoes were a bit of a gimmick (bought mine cheap from TKMaxx!), but might they actually be better for my feet than the (cheap Karrimor) running shoes?

It's the top outside of both feet at the crease of the ankle joint. They've been ok all day at work (on my feet all day) but are aching now I've sat down.

I'll google the lacing thing, thanks. Any other ideas/suggestions welcome!

Sazorchard31 · 21/01/2015 18:34

2 miles on the treadmill for me at lunch, making it 1721.28
Not been running for ten days :( but feel good for squeezing a quick one in at work gym.
