Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

yumyumpoppycat · 09/01/2015 16:16

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

Does it hurt when you do it on the left leg Spooky?

yumyumpoppycat · 14/02/2015 19:15

Hi all (especially big hello to new beachbodyers!)

Purple and full steam can I join in the pom pom cheerleading and say well done too Grin

Fullsteam I find that lunge sequence hard on both legs tbh.Do you think you may have pulled a muscle or something?

Finally managed to focus for 25 mins and did total body circuit - enjoyed it but I was very red in the face by the end.

Diet wise I have lost 10lbs over the last 3 weeks so pretty good! Have been doing whole 30 which is too restrictive for me long term but no calorie or carb counting. There is a thread on weightloss section.

Sorry, my lunge comment was for spooky...

No, it isn't a pulled muscle or anything. It is just that feeling where you literally cannot continue for one more rep but once you stop, it is fine and you can carry on for a bit longer. I guess I must just have one leg stronger than the other Confused

Fullsteamahead · 14/02/2015 22:20

That's not unusual at all Spooky. My whole left side is way weaker than my right one. I have a very weak and often sore left shoulder, and my left hip and knee are rubbish too. My lunges on left side are a lot worse than on the right and I often have to take rest just like you. My osteopath has told me that it's very normal to have one side of the body which is much more dominant than the other.
Nothing to worry about, I would just carry on as normal, think your muscles will improve overtime. I certainly feel like mine have a fair bit already :)

Just started T25 for the first time. Nearly passed out and I am not even overweight, just unfit! I borrowed it off a friend (swapped it for JM Body Revolution) so I feel shamed into sticking with it but omg it was so hard, and that's just the cardio .

Please tell me it gets easier! Envy

Sarahlouboo · 15/02/2015 08:19

Hello, haven't been on for a while but just done first full week of T25 (was jumping between Jillian Michaels and T25) and really enjoying sticking to a proper programme although the double whammy on Friday nearly did me in Grin. I have a question for the experienced T25ers - do you bother with the stretch dvd on Sunday? Is it worth doing?

Purpleraindeer · 15/02/2015 08:49

It does get easier. My first week was hell. I was tired after 3mins of each workout. By week 2 it was ok and week it was almost enjoyable and I could see the difference it was making to my legs and tummy

Poppy - seriously well done on the weight loss. 10lbs is awesome! It has taken me double the amount of time to lose that amount of weight.

This week is going to be hard. We're on hols and there are cakes everywhere. I did do core cardio last night tho

spookyskeleton · 15/02/2015 10:36

Went out for a run this morning - did 7 miles but had to walk up hills and it was so hard - my legs just felt so tired I could barely move them. I assume it is T25 taking it's toll Sad

Anyway, I do do the stretch DVD as I enjoy yoga-type moves and it is a good stretch after my run.

Jacksterbear · 15/02/2015 10:44

caitlin stick with it - you'll get used to it! The pace is super fast after JM, isn't it? But it will get easier!

Sarah the general consensus seems to be that none of us bothers with the stretch DVD. Blush

Welcome spooky. I have PiYo and have done the first 3 workouts this week - but have been interspersing them with "proper" cardio/strength stuff, as I can't quite buy in to the belief that PiYo alone will be enough!

purple are you going away for half term? Is everyone still going to manage to exercise this week (I assume most of us have school-age DC)? I'm not sure I will manage much but should be able to stick to my "3x absolute minimum" rule!

Jacksterbear · 15/02/2015 10:45

(X-posted with spooky re the stretching!)

yumyumpoppycat · 15/02/2015 11:51

Hi Five Caitlin on 1st T25 Grin I found it hard after a break so I think it does get easier (although the workouts pos get harder dep on your strength, but it feels like a positive hard)

Thanks purple! Although I prob have a lot more to lose than you which makes it easier. I have finally done up the zip on some size 16 super skinnies I got ages ago in a sale from H&M so mega happy!

Jackster I have 3 children 4, 7 and 9, but we are just doing days out so should be able to keep it up over half term.

caitlinohara · 15/02/2015 13:46

Half term might make it easier for me as I will gain half an hour from not having a school run... In theory!

jackster I do miss jillian. Shaun is a bit lacking in humour so far! But much as I love her I didn't get great results from body revolution so I thought I would try something new and P90X is just too long!

spooky hats off for going for a run on your rest day, whether you had to walk at times or not - that's pretty impressive!

purple - lol at "almost enjoyable" Grin

Sarahlouboo · 15/02/2015 15:18

Thanks Spooky and Jacksterbear - I am intrigued so may give it a go next week but I can't be bothered today so just enjoying the rest.

spookyskeleton · 15/02/2015 19:26

Running today doesn't seem like such a good idea now - my legs have ached all day and I have no idea how I am going to do TBC tomorrow morning Confused

Shaun T seems to focus a lot on stretching out hips and hip flexors - some of the stretches are quite uncomfortable! Feels good afterwards though Grin

Boobz · 16/02/2015 09:08

Level 3 drills

(not sure if this will work)

spookyskeleton · 16/02/2015 10:59

boobz I can't open that link?

Have just done TBC, still can't nail it Sad my shoulder strength is so bad that I can't do any of the plank work on my toes as it hurts my shoulders.

Boobz · 16/02/2015 11:12

No worries - was me doing level 3 drills from Insanity Max Interval Plyo (which I can now do without stopping!) but it's on a private FB group so didn't think it would work.

Can you do some pull ups to help shoulder strength - plenty of those in P90X.

Had a cheat day yesterday (no work out and pizza/cake for lunch/dinner as it was 2 kids' birthday parties on the trot - ugh) and the scales really punished me for it today! I swear I can be good all week, maintain my weight and then have one off day and it says I am 1.5kg heavier. Arse.

So did Max Interval Plyo AND Cardio abs this morning to get me back on track, and am skipping lunch! (I know I know).

spookyskeleton · 16/02/2015 11:13

What do you do pull ups on? The door frame??

Boobz · 16/02/2015 11:50

One of these:

Argos Pull Up Bar

They go on most door frames.

You need a chair to counter-balance your weight for the first month - 6 weeks, but by the middle of my P90X routine I could do 2 or 3, and by the end I could do 10 unaided. But then I didn't have a shoulder problem so it might take you longer to build strength?

Purpleraindeer · 16/02/2015 14:32

Pull ups?! God. I've never been able to do those. I used to rock climb and even then I couldn't do even one!
Managed rip'd circuit yesterday and upper focus today. Had to use the resistance band rather than weights as it didn't make sense to bring weights on hols. Was a total faff trying to get the band in the right place to do the exercise so by the time I was in position I only did about half of the work out. Annoying. Ript circuit again tomorrow so maybe I'll be more efficient?
I had my own non diet day yesterday. Only available lunch was mayonaise filled sandwiches so once I had those I was on the slippery slope to cake and a large glass of wine in the evening. Never mind.

HesBeenAVeryNaughtyBoy · 16/02/2015 15:07

Oh my god I'm starting T25 properly today (have done 3 weeks warm up on off) I couldn't even do cardio which I have been able to do previously. What is wrong with me feel like I'm going backwards it's really the worst I have ever done it!!! I might cry is anyone else getting worst rather than better or should I just give myself a break as my LO is only 14 weeks old? Confused

Re the stretching its actually really hard so I always give it a go. Still can't do them properly.

Sarahlouboo · 16/02/2015 19:53

Hesbeenaverynaughtyboy - yes I think you are being too hard on yourself! I could not have done t25 cardio 14 weeks after giving birth! Also some days are just harder than others! Are you doing the modifiers? I think anyway is better than nothing and slow progress is better than no progress.

Boobz - I am exactly the same, I can be so good, exercise loads, lose weight and then one day of being more relaxed and a few glasses of wine...boom 2lbs on!! So frustrating! I tell myself it's water retention Wink but it still niggles!

Second week of t25 alpha. Cardio done. Going to try and be really strict with calories this week. Hovering just above my target weight and it is getting on my nerves now!

Fullsteamahead · 16/02/2015 21:39

Hi everybody,

I'm so excited I started Beta today. First Core Cradio done and went very well! I had two rest days and was actually starting to crave the exercise!

Boobz, what group is that on FB please?

Also wanted to ask if anybody is on Myfitnesspal? I've started tracking my food to see hiw I'm doing and it'd be great to have extra support on there too. I'm struggling a bit with my protein uptake and it'd be great to share ideas and recipes.

Question: what weight should I start with on Beta? I've only got 750g weights at the moment. Do you think it'd be sufficient enough to start with?

Boobz, to answer your question about the cage in my house. Here is the huge scary Tasmanian devil who lives in it :D

Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)
Purpleraindeer · 16/02/2015 21:55

I feel the same sometimes hasbeen. I put it down to tiredness. It's tough exercising 6 days pw and it's made even tougher if youre a bit sleep deprived with a new baby. It will get better!
