New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

I lost you all! I'm so glad it's Friday tomorrow, nearly the worst week ever!!!!

ScienceRocks · 07/11/2014 07:32

May I ask a question? I'm new to park running but have got the bug and noticed some of you talked about doing a double. How do you do that? Aren't they all at 9am on a Saturday?

cinnamongreyhound · 07/11/2014 08:15

Christmas Day and New Years day there is flexility on start time and close parkruns usually try to coordinate start times so runners can do both :)

Blatherskite · 07/11/2014 16:12

You can only count 1 on Christmas day though cinnamon NYD is the only day that you can officially claim a double run and I intend to Wink

I am having another "what you need is parkrun" moment. Life changing opportunity for runners and volunteers.

If anyone appears to ask about volunteering I know we have the answer....do it...there are lovely people plus Brew and Cake. I think having a specific job (Marshall, tokens etc) makes it great too as you have a structured role to play not just general milling around "helping". Hi vis = confidence :)

cinnamongreyhound · 07/11/2014 18:09

We only have 2 volunteers in addition to the RD tomorrow, could be interesting!

Haha, and after all my enthusiasm last night I've gone and overslept!
So I won't be parkrunning today Smile

Have a great morning everyone!

Grin Thursday

I went to St albans and met up with feet and mini-speedy-feet. Lovely course, and smashing cake at the end Grin. Sorry to have missed you Halle - next time!

Lots of folk I know did the Daventry inaugural today - I am missing parkrun!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/11/2014 12:59

Like the second one ThursdayLast, sorry you overslept.

I ended up volunteering and running after as we were so short, gives me the rage Angry

ThursdayLast · 08/11/2014 13:24

I'm not really that sad I overslept tbh - DS is my alarm clock, so it meant the whole house had a lie in Grin
I'll be annoyed when my 50th takes even loooonger to come around, but it was the right thing to do today.

How frustrating cinnamon - we often have last minute volunteer shout outs in FB that seem to do the trick. I hope everyone was a bit friendlier this week?

cinnamongreyhound · 08/11/2014 13:47

I did one yesterday morning which got one and then the only marshal we had got I'll so back to 1! Then last night around 8.30pm I did another and filled a few more. Had a couple turn up this morning but I already agreed to run with my friend afterwards and I didn't want to slow her down by being too knackered from running parkrun too. I was fine thanks my running buddy was rd today so we sat together :)

HalleLouja · 08/11/2014 15:31

Oh we had to take ds to football so needed to leave smartish. Managed to get in under 28 so not pb material but a nice enough run anyway and 2 minutes faster than last week.

How did minifeet do? He was way ahead of me. Also feetyou must have got a pb.

standingonlego · 08/11/2014 23:10

Hey blathers I have spotted you on the Daventry inaugural photos - looking good Grin. Check out the flicker link in their Facebook comments. Lots of Northampton parkrun were there today

standingonlego · 08/11/2014 23:11

That was not a sarky Grin by the way, it was a genuine Smile. You look ace!

standingonlego · 08/11/2014 23:12

Now I sound like a crazy stalker...Confused

feetheart · 08/11/2014 23:24

I did - 27:36 :)

And mini-speedy took over 2 mins off his previous PB of a mere two weeks ago and got 25:56 Shock Shock and got first in his age-category for the first time so he is a Very Happy Boy :o
SO glad I got someone else to run with him, I'm not in his league any more after only 7 weeks of running with him :(

Lovely to see you HalleLouja and Ohone

karatekimmi · 09/11/2014 07:09

Had a lovely parkrun at Shrewsbury before a 5 mile cross country run. I was very happy with my time of 32m 36 for a steady run around, part with a pushchair!! 9 to go ....

Blatherskite · 09/11/2014 18:20

Ha Lego I'm going to have to go and have a look now :)

I was only about 20 seconds off my PB on Saturday and then came back to MK to run another 11 miles with the wife as she finished off her marathon. Added to the 7 mile recovery walk I did today, I've covered 21 miles this weekend!

No wonder my bum hurts! Wink

MelanieCheeks · 10/11/2014 16:23

Managed the Perth parkrun - it is right beside the River Tay, so part of the usual route was flooded, and the alternative route was over rather soggy, slippery, mucky grass! I managed a faster time than last week, which I guess is good, but I'm disappointed with my (lack of) progress. Oh well, it's still fun doing some tourism.

Still no red Tshirt.

Too many "still"s in that post, but still....Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 11/11/2014 21:49

I'm thinking of doing a little speech at the start of parkrun this week about our lack of volunteers last week and how although parkrun won't force volunteering they do ask for people to volunteer 3 times a year and at small parkrun a like ours it's particularly important. Do think that's too pushy?

feetheart · 11/11/2014 23:06

Not too pushy at all. Hopefully it will make people think, and volunteer.

karatekimmi · 12/11/2014 07:07

Not too pushy at all. if the runners don't volunteer then the event would have to be cancelled. You've got better things to do than email out volunteer requests I only volunteer about once a month
