Good luck, Five!

I'm not bothered about running the whole Parkrun 5k, I'm assured that walking some of it is acceptable, I just want to check out the atmosphere. I was quite easily goaded into doing extra last Sunday, so I'm hoping the other runners and spectators will keep me going. Grin

Iggi do it!! Just go for it - even if it's really slow you'll be so pleased you've got it over with. Smile

I vote go for it too Iggi Smile.

(of course I say 'go for it' from the comfort of home, drinking red wine waiting for my Dad to turn up...! Grin)

If I am not to late hope you did it Iggi.

Well good and bad bits, the first 90 second run was fine and managed to concentrate on breathing which was a first. I managed 2.45 before I ran out of track, the field I had to go the grass was too long, did the second 90 seconds up hill in two parts and then took dog for a brisk walk up hill for about 15 minutes and then ran 2 minutes back to the car. I changed my route because if the rain and forgotten how uphill it was. But I ran for the most I have done for years, I am very overweight and I am quite pleased with the progress as I also haven't run for a week.

Hope everyone is still running

Well done Five! I did not go out. I fell asleep putting the toddler down and am currently in my pyjamas. An easier day at work tomorrow so hopefully after a night's sleep I'll want to run.
Very jealous if this park run talk. There is one near me but I can only sign up when I'm sure I won't be last!

Wasting - it is lovely and, if it fitted me, it would be perfect. I am already an XL so no getting a bigger one. Ugh. The arse of it is, when I've stopped feeding DD, I'll probably be able to fit into it but I can't realistically keep a 75 quid jacket in the hope of getting into it.

Thanks addicted, that is helpful. My shoulders are definitely getting better so I probably just needed a rest. It's the same muscle group as my neck so I'll ask my chiropractor when I see him next week.

five how'd you find W3R1? I'm doing it tomorrow.

Report
Nightfall1983 · 28/08/2014 20:33

Did W3R2 today and it went pretty well. I think I'm actually starting to like running!

Can I ask what you all do about water? Do you just carry a bottle or do you have a special device? Up till now I've had my DH run with me carrying the water (spoilt) but on Saturday I'm going to run on my own for the first time...

Thought the old thread was a bit quiet then I noticed the link to this one Blush .

Just done the first run of a 10k plan. Probably not wise after a week off running but I needed a new challenge. Didn't quite manage 4x10 mins as planned but did better than I have in recent weeks. Feeling motivated!

Today was a "rest" day for me (ran 5K yesterday, which nearly killed me) but what I usually do on rest days is accompany 9 yo DS as he gets through C25K - today was W2R3 (I'll bet to the newbies to C25K it sounds masochistic to take that on again but it was only a couple of months ago I was in a similar position to you and look where I am now! If I can do it you can!).

DS is not unfit at all - he does lots of sport at school - but he doesn't have a hell of a lot of stamina, or focus for that matter. Getting him to keep up with me wasn't so bad on the running parts but on the walking parts he kept falling behind as his thoughts turned to all the baddies he fights when he's out walking Hmm, no matter how I tried to engage him in conversation. But he's now completed 2 weeks and he'll get there.

Iggi don't feel bad about not running today - if you were really up for it you wouldn't have fallen asleep. If you're not feeling well give yourself a rest because if you push yourself too hard you will regret it and give it up for good. Just after I started W4 I fell and bruised my knee (cried like a baby when it happened because I was terrified I wouldn't be able to run again - is there a drama queen icon?). Anyway, I promised myself I would stay off it as much as I could and would not run for a week. By W4 I was getting addicted as many do so it was really hard not running. But after a week it was feeling much better and I eased myself back into it, repeating W2R1 on the first day back, then when that went really well I repeated W3R1, and after that I went right back into W4 where I left off, resting for a day between each run. I lost a week and a bit from the time I had hoped to finish (and lost another week when we went on holiday) but in the end it didn't matter and I did pick it back up and am still just as committed.

Well done five!

Hi Nightfall - yes, W3 is about the time you start to get addicted, once you realise how much progress you're making. Well done for getting that far.

To be honest I don't bother with water when I'm running, even on the hottest days - I have to hold my iPhone so adding a water bottle for just a half hour run doesn't seem worth it to me. When I start training for 10K I may need to rethink that.

Thank you all, enormouse I was petrified to start of with going I can't do it but yes you can. NOt sure how it works but it does. If it hadn't been hilly (the curse of where I live) then I would have done it and two weeks ago I struggled doing a minute. Oh and my trousers are starting to feel looser.

I keep water in the car so I can have a drink when I get back to it.

I carry a bottle of water. You can get bottles with a hole in the middle (to make it easier to carry). I like sistema bottles (cheap, easy to wash up).

I love this thread, I even read it on rest days Grin.

Yoohoo Edwinia, did you go running today?

Cru, I like Sistema bottles too, they make nice little ones, and they can go in the dishwasher. I know that I don't 'need' water on the lengths of runs that I'm doing, but I do prefer to have it. I just carry it in one hand (but I will be telling DH that he should be running alongside me, offering it to me from time to time Grin).

ChameleonCircuit · 28/08/2014 23:07

Wasting shouldn't he be running alongside you anyway, mopping your brow and murmuring encouraging phrases to you, all the while ensuring that you get to run on the least cambered part of the road? Grin

Hi,

I didn't go running today (yesterday).

Kids started new school and were very very stressed = lack of sleep.
DP has asked for "space" = mega stress = lack of sleep & lack of motivation.

My neighbour is planning to drag me out tomorrow tho.

Report
DottyDot · 29/08/2014 07:38

Oh no Edwinias - sorry to hear you're having a tough time Sad.

Hopefully if you get the chance to get out and have a run, at least it gives you a bit of headspace and time away from it all? I find I cant think about 'real life' much at all when I'm running - brain can't cope with thinking and moving at the same time! Hope you're OK.

Report
stilllearnin · 29/08/2014 07:51

Hi I don't know how I've lost the knack of just getting out there but I seem to think I can't run while the kids are off school!

Watto I'm looking at working up to 10k too. What program are you using. I've been waiting for Laura to do one but she is most tardy in this respect.

Edwinias I get very stressed and overwhelmed and there is nothing like school stress for that. I find exercise and meditation are the only things that work for this so if you can just force yourself to get out even if it's only half a run, seriously you are not putting your needs first - my partner knows I do it for all of us.

Report
FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/08/2014 08:02

Oh Edwinias, sounds like you are in a really difficult place, I echo that so e form of exercise would be good, go with your neighbour when they drag you. Take care of yourself

Hi. I joined the last thread, but haven't checked in for a few weeks. Wasn't expecting a whole new thread - there was a lot to catch up on, phew Grin!

I've just done w5r3. Woohoo! But bloody hell it was tough.

I've only been managing 2 runs a week for the last few weeks - colds, lots of rain, DH away... Think I'll repeat w5r3 a couple of times.

Edwinia and Wasting, I've particularly been following your updates as I'm just behind you in the runs. Edwinia - sorry you're having a tough time. I think the running can be such a good stress reliever, but there's always Cake. Be kind to yourself Smile

DD and I will be taking part in a 5k Colour Run type event on Sunday. I haven't been out for about 10 days and she hasn't run for months but as the running bits will be broken up by getting splattered in coloured flour I am sure we will get round!

It is my birthday tomorrow so I ordered a running top, leggings and a sports bra (it's pink!). The outfit is a bit clingy and I feel really self conscious in it so I don't know when I will venture out wearing it Blush. I need to get back to dieting healthy eating and hoping to drop 2 stone by the New Year! Hmm

I barely slept last night.
I feel hideously nauseous.
But I'm awake and have nothing better to do so I'm going to try and get out to do W6R1

Oh Edwinia, I'm really sorry to hear that you're having a difficult time at the moment. I hope you have a good run and manage to get some headspace.

Hi maffive, do you find that you struggle on the same runs as Edwinia and I?
