Well done laughing!

How did it go, spooky?

First failure here. I just couldn't manage week 6 run 1 today, and had to stop and walk during the eight minute run for 30 seconds before resuming running. I think I might have been a little dehydrated from having a couple of glasses of wine last night and an upset stomach, plus the run was uphill. I was also, for the first time, running with a friend, and I felt such an idiot Sad

Iggi999 · 05/10/2014 17:52

Sciencerocks, what stands out for me from your post is that you started running again

addictedtosugar · 05/10/2014 18:07

Science I found week 6 the hardest of all. You've got off the couch, and been running on a Sunday. Since when is that a failure?? Sounds like a success to me!

For those of you asking "what next?" what do you want to do?
Bridge to 10km is often recommended if you want to go further.

I used the 3 C25K+ NHS podcasts to keep with Laura, and have stuck with those and week 9 (and w5r3 when I go out from work at lunchtime).

Someone also linked here a bit further up, which I have bookmarked but not done any more. Anyone else used DJSteveBoy?

MySpideySenseTickles · 05/10/2014 20:53

I went to castleton today and climbed mam tor then went down the Devils arse it was bloody gorgeous! Ds walked all day and over took some people on the way up! (We'd forgotten the pushchair so he couldn't sit down!) he wasn't scared at all in the caves either.
I've done mam for before and it was. Hundred times easier this time in fact we've basically been tramping all over the Peak District ad in not overly tired, all my injuries are better (still twingy but not bad) and I'm actually looking forward to my run tomorrow I'm going to force myself to push it harder.

MySpideySenseTickles · 05/10/2014 20:58

Saw bits of the redbull steeplechase too, it looked terrifying, I can't describe it so you'd have to google, 22 miles over rough peaks 500 started and only 40 finished, there were four checkpoints and anyone behind a certain place at each checkpoint was eliminated.
The ones we saw were filthy and shattered!

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/10/2014 21:28

addicted, I've tried before (and again now), but I can't find the 3 C25K+ apps that you mentioned! I feel like a Luddite Confused.

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/10/2014 21:55

I got the C25K+ podcasts BlushGrin. I can't wait to try them.

spookyskeleton · 05/10/2014 22:16

I did it Grin Grin 10 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes then straight into McD's for a sausage and egg mcmuffin Wink

Am now scaling things back for a few weeks now thank god...my legs are knackered.

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/10/2014 23:07

Bloody hell spooky, well done Grin.

ChameleonCircuit · 05/10/2014 23:12

I've been off for a week and a half. Combination of wanting to rest my shins and life getting in the way. However.....we went out this morning and ran. Only a week 5 run, just to ease back into it, but even though I didn't enjoy getting up early I enjoyed the running bit. I'm back! Grin

Well done to all the speedy types and welcome to the new runners. Smile

dizzyday07 · 06/10/2014 00:09

I think these are the C25k+ podcasts

Wasting i like the 5k+ podcasts. Speed is short and I do it in my lunch break. I think you're supposed to do stepping stone (30 mins at an increasing pace) before stamina. But I found myself getting stressed about getting to 5k in the 30 mins so I prefer stamina which is similar but 35 mins. I run the two together for a run on my day off and to increase my distance I just run a bit further into the next podcast each week. So far up to 8k so it's going ok.

Having said that I passed out with a horrible bug (at home thankfully) and banged my knee so not run for 2 weeks- back on it tomorrow I hope.

Spooky - I'd love to do 10 miles in 2 hours!!!

MySpideySenseTickles · 06/10/2014 08:21

Today's run is cancelled, even I'm not determined enough to run in a thunderstorm! If it clears up I'll go later but there's no way I could go out in this! There's quite a lot of lightening too.
(I also am terrified of thunder and often hide under the table during storms)

PoirotsMoustache · 06/10/2014 09:51

Spidey, I hope your wrist is better very soon and that your ankle doesn't give you too much trouble.

Spooky, Bloody well done for yesterday!

Science, You did a brilliant job - you didn't give up, and you resumed running after sensibly taking a walking break. Well done.

Laughing Well done! That's amazing, good for you.

My Dad is a runner (well most of my immediate family are now, actually - I'm the only unfit & overweight one!) and he told me that your body doesn't really warm up fully till you've run about 2 miles, so they are the hardest. A bit like an engine turning on in freezing weather - it needs a bit of time to get going and warm up before it starts performing at its optimum level.

I'm sorry to say that I have to stay off doing the running for a little longer. I took your advice and didn't go out on Saturday. Yesterday I was out for the day with my son, and I stood on an uneven loose paving slab (unintentionally, obviously) and twisted my ankle further! Angry So now it's worse than it was before, meaning I can't go out this evening. I think I shall have to start again next week. I must go at the weekend and get my gait checked, so I can get the right running shoes and any inserts I need. So frustrating!

spookyskeleton · 06/10/2014 10:12

poirot I agree with your dad and I think most runners will say exactly the same. The first 10 minutes of any run feels bloody awful to me. I struggle to breath, can't talk but suddenly everything clicks into place and breathing becomes easy. it is weird Confused

spidey the weather is shocking today, I would not go out in this either!

Am having a lazy day after yesterdays 'marathon' - managed to persuade DH to do the very wet and windy school run so I am sat here in my PJ's Grin

MySpideySenseTickles · 06/10/2014 10:15

At least I can get the housework done that I've been ignoring in favour of being outside.

MySpideySenseTickles · 06/10/2014 10:29

Aldis special buys this week is running stuff, just thought if anyone wanted to look for a bargain, their website has a list of what they're getting. Looks pretty good and ive had stuff from there before which was really good quality.

lovelidl · 06/10/2014 13:28

Just been for a morning run in Florida! How dedicated is that - running on my hols?

Bad news is after a week off from running and indulging in lots of lovely food - I didn't run very far!

Will catch up with thread when I get home. Happy running Smile

MarysDressSways1 · 06/10/2014 15:01

It was a glorious day yesterday and I went running in the park, despite by back playing up (I've had problems with my lower back over the years) but after 5mins of running my back was too painful (the pounding on the path was NOT a good thing) so had to stop. I tried to restart but it was really painful so I had to limp home.

SO annoyed as it was perfect running weather (sunny but nice and crisp and cool) and today is pissing it down and cold.. although my back is still painful so won't go anyway. Hopefully I'll be ok to go after work tomorrow. Grrr.

MySpideySenseTickles · 06/10/2014 15:33

Oh shite... Might have just signed myself up for a 4k on New Years day! I can't run for four minutes!
It's finished off with a dip in the freezing cold lake.

I had a false sense of hope because it's being held where I go running and it's fundraising for the hospice where dfil passed away.

Better get pushing myself harder then!

Iggi999 · 06/10/2014 21:21

Spidey if you complete the 9 weeks you'll be running 4k no bother, I run at a snail's pace and 5k still eludes me but 4 k is normal for my full session.
I'm having a few days off as have an interview coming up and just can't coordinate preparation, family and sleep with runs thrown in! Might do one straight after the interview to relieve my stress Smile

PoirotsMoustache · 07/10/2014 08:31

You can do it, Spidey!

DaftMaul · 07/10/2014 09:18

Just completed W5R2. It wasn't too bad at all! Not easy, and I was desperate for Laura to tell me 60secs more but I did it! I should gave run Sunday but dh was away, then yesterday, dd was off sick, so it's taken a few days to get around to it.

Lovelidl, very impressive! Where in Florida are you?

Poirot, hope the ankle improves quickly.

Stilllearnin, feel better soon.

Chameleon, how were the shins on your run?

Well done Spooky. Amazing, 10miles!

ScienceRocks · 07/10/2014 09:54

Well done to everyone who has completed runs, and kudos to those who have signed up for longer runs in the future!

After my disaster on Sunday, I was determined to get back on the horse (for fear of never getting back on it ever again), so I did Week 6 run 2 last night. It's walk five, run ten, walk three, run ten, walk five. And I did it. It was hard going, but I did ramp up the speed a little (did much of it at 8kph or slightly higher). I feel better, but it hasn't quite cancelled out my despondency about Sunday.
