Gah! Plantar fasciitis !

addictedtosugar · 03/10/2014 17:11

Sorry, Poirot, I agree. Have another rest day, and get your inserts in your shoes, and have another go. This programme is about the long run, not the next days and weeks. Stay on the thread, and we'll support you when your ready to run again.

MummySparkle · 03/10/2014 17:53

I'd say rest too poirot I'm afraid. By the sounds of it you might have twisted your ankle slightly. Does it look swollen? I often twist my ankles, but the mild ones usually clear up quite quickly so long as you rest them up x

Lamppost runs would be very hard where I live. There is only one in our village!!!

WastingMyYoungYears · 03/10/2014 19:39

I didn't really want to go out running tonight, so I was worried that I was losing the love a bit. So instead of pushing myself to run faster, I just took it pretty easy and ran 4K. I really enjoyed it Smile. I also varied my route a bit, which helped too.

I know I've asked before - does anyone know of any good apps to use after C25K? Maybe I need a bit more structure / pushing.

Iggi999 · 03/10/2014 20:32

Wasting I have downloaded "10k for pink" - just one of the free apps. I've used it once so far and the first one post the 30 min runs (you can skip forward) had me doing 4x10 mins with 1 min walking in between. This was the first time I've ever reached 5k! It worked fine, but I missed the motivational side of c25k (or you get told to start running, none of this "you can do it!" stuff you get from Laura. Did 30 mins in pouring rain after work today, so feeling virtuous.

MySpideySenseTickles · 04/10/2014 08:39

Well I've got my first excersise injury.... Not even from running I did it walking Ds home from school pushing his bike, sprained my wrist! I have very weak wrists anyway but still annoying. At least it happens often enough that I have supports to hand. Lucky it wasn't my ankles really. (They're not too brilliant either)

MummySparkle · 04/10/2014 09:28

Oh no spidey hope it heals quickly x

Park run did not happen... Baby girls was up lots last night and I've woken up feeling. Like I've swallowed a few razor blades. Currently sitting in spoons awaiting breakfast!!

I'm hoping I might be able to get another 4.5k in later this morning, otherwise I might have to postpone til tomorrow.

It's cold here today, I might have to invest in some long sleeved running tops. Can anyone recommend a good place to get some?

WastingMyYoungYears · 04/10/2014 09:48

Mummy, sweatshop is associated with parkrun, and seems to have some discounted Nike / Adidas etc gear. I quite like my H&M running gear too.

DaftMaul · 04/10/2014 10:41

TK Maxx always have lots of stuff of various brands and sizes. Sports Direct also, if you can bear it in there!

Spidey, hope the wrists recovers quickly.

Have a houseful of 12/13yr olds after ds' 13th birthday sleepover yesterday. They are playing a very noisy game of FIFA on the playstation so I am hiding in my bedroom!

MummySparkle · 04/10/2014 10:52

Gosh, a whole houseful of them daft - you're brave!! (I work with that age group, not looking forward to when my two are that age!)

I stuck my nose into sweatshop the other week, I'm hoping to have a gait analysis done. Would have done it then, but I was wearing an old nursing bra and it wouldn't have been pretty! Is do love H&M, didn't realise they did sporty stuff, I shall have a nosey online x

DaftMaul · 04/10/2014 11:36

It doesn't take many to fill my house!

stilllearnin · 04/10/2014 11:59

Is every sports direct hideous then? ours is a basement store and full of overheated kids and mums rowing about shoes!
I had plantar and also shattered my heel pad. These are the only insoles that worked www.amazon.co.uk/Mueller-Heel-Cups-Regular-79kgs

They look weird and the guy in sports direct laughed at me (so I knew they were good!!)

I am in awe of all these new starters - it really is the hardest bit!

BeeOrchid · 04/10/2014 12:31

Early this morning I did W1R1 again. I had to de install then reinstall the app so I figured I'd just start from scratch. This time I chose a better track to run along, where've didn't have to keep watching my footing. I also bought a pair of jvc earplugs in sainsbury yesterday, marked down to a fiver.

Went better today, the shock of realising how unfit I am had worn off slightly. I probably ran slower, not much faster than my brisk walk. Funny how Laura is such a lovely, encouraging woman at the beginning of the run, half way through I began to think she was some kind of sadist and by the end I'd diagnosed a full blown personality disorder. I found myself silently pleading Please Laura, say its time to slow down NOW!

I did a thorough stretch when I got home as I'd been quite achey yesterday.

Dog kept showing off though, sprinting after deer or squirrels - "this is how it's done Woman". Git.

Next thing, new running shoes. Any recommendations. Don't mind spending a bit as I'm old and need good shoes.

We can do it!

spookyskeleton · 04/10/2014 12:43

spidey hope your wrist heals quickly.

I have recommended H&M before on here for running gear - the stuff is good and much cheaper than branded gear. However the service is shocking and you will have to wait at least 2 weeks to have it delivered Angry

addictedtosugar · 04/10/2014 12:50

How are the 30 day challenges going (who said they would do one?).
I started one on 1 Oct, and its pretty short but boy can I tell I've done some of the exercises.

Bee I suggest you go to a proper running shop, and get them to sort you out. What works for one wont work for another, due to the arches needing to be properly supported when you run, and we all have different arches. I'm running in Brookes at the moment.

Yes, every sports direct I go into is hideous, however they do have some good stuff, so I keep going back. I think the biggest problem is they try to cram too much in, so there is no space anywhere. But then I've always found long running trousers, so I guess loads of stock means more chance of the right size???

MySpideySenseTickles · 04/10/2014 15:22

It'll be ok in a couple of days, strapped up today and probably tomorrow then I'm attempting to run on Monday. I've got my ankle strapped up now too but that's more of a precaution because it was aching and we're (weather dependant) climbing a "mountain" tomorrow, we're climbing a big hill in the dales Ds thinks it's a mountain.
It's just stopped raining so hopefully it stays dry overnight.

MySpideySenseTickles · 04/10/2014 15:24

I've just bought some joggers in asda for £5 Theyre long and warm, loose enough that I won't look too awful but tight enough that I won't trip over the bottoms, they'll be a million times better than the old black velour ones that are too short I have been wearing.
I might be crap at running but at least I'll look the part lol

EdwiniasRevenge · 04/10/2014 15:32

Just did W9r1.

it was a fast run, id covered quite a lot more ground at each checkpoint, until the very end. But my strava app didn't track it. Im gutted. I will work out how far I went using map my run later - reckon it will be about 4.4-4.5km but I'd love to know my splits and if I got any personal bests.

wasting I'm also wondering whats next. I've not been running as often for the last couple of weeks partly because I have had an important uni dissertation which has taken priority but I also wonder if I'm losing the love. I'm thinking about trying to run by distance and push myself to be able to acheive the full 5km. Its going to take a while as I'm only covering about 3.5km in my 30mins run time.

but I'm also conscious that my current pace is pretty slow. Back in July I ran the race for life doing 30sec ish intervals (doing the lamp posts I keep speaking of). I did that at an average pace of 8:58/km. I'm currently only running at about 9:25/km when doing a solid run so I guess I'm finding that a touch disappointing that now I'm not walking my pace is a lot slower. I guess I'm feeling a bit lost and don't know where to go next....

WastingMyYoungYears · 04/10/2014 19:36

Thanks Iggi, I'll check out that app.

Edwinia, I've mostly pushed for speed since I finished C25K (and with some Grin success). But I think I'd rather push for distance now. The furthest I've run has been 4.5K so far. I seem to keep picking up over-training injuries (but my physio tells me to keep going Grin). It's early days I suppose, I think my body is still I'm shock that it's not sitting watching TV anymore. I really enjoyed my last run, and I'm going to the gym a couple of times a week too.

LaughingM · 04/10/2014 21:36

I CAN RUN 5K!!! Sorry about the shouting, but I'm a bit excited Grin.
I had done a few 30 min runs last week and got to about 4k each time but haven't been out till Monday. I woke up this morning and thought I'd just go for it, and see if I could get to 5k. And I can! It wasn't easy - the first 3k were really tough going, but after that it got much easier. Legs are aching now though!

Spidey, Bee and anyone else at the end - you can do it. It has taken me since Easter, when I couldn't do the full w1r1 podcast, to now but it has been so worth it.

Edwinias and Wasting, let me know if you find any good 5k+ apps. My plan for now is to do a couple of 30min runs (probably using the last Laura podcasts) a week then try to build up distance on a 'long' run at the weekend…

DaftMaul · 04/10/2014 22:47

Yay laughing. Fantastic! It's a great incentive to those of us trying to catch up with you!

WastingMyYoungYears · 04/10/2014 22:48

Well done Laughing Smile!

spookyskeleton · 05/10/2014 06:36

laughing well done Smile such an amazing achievement.

Right, it is 6.30 on a Sunday morning and I am up, had breakfast and getting ready to go out and run. We are running 10 miles this morning Shock Shock this is what we have been training for over the last few weeks and I have a mix of looking forward to it and dreading it in equal measures!

Catch up with you when I have done Smile

LaughingM · 05/10/2014 12:20

Thanks all!

Wowza spooky, good luck!! I don't know if I am more in awe of the running or the being ready to leave the house at 6:30 am on a sunday!!

ChameleonCircuit · 05/10/2014 15:33

Well done, Laughing!
