addicted I'm a size 6 so I thought a 6.5 would be a good fit and give my toes some room. I mildly over pronate. Liked all the Nikes looks wise. I know I shouldn't go off that but wanted something I'd actually like wearing.

I have a sports bra thank fully. Those look good, thank you.
What do you wear on top? It rains a lot where I am.

I was so excited this morning, bit fed up now.

addictedtosugar · 02/08/2014 18:29

something like these

I just get wet :) but some of the more hardened runners I know have something like this But then I will postpone a run if its bucketing it down, and just run is a top if its showers. I overheat enough as is without a waterproof jacket as well.

addictedtosugar · 02/08/2014 18:31

anything here take your fancy??

I like spending other peoples money from the couch. I HATE shopping in real life - maybe because this way I don't need to decide if it a) fits b) suits me and c) is fashionable or suitable for purpose!

Phoenixwoman · 02/08/2014 18:34

Hi all, can I join? On week 5, run 3 (or will be in 10 minutes in the rain). Can't believe how far I've come as I'm desperately unfit and hate running, it was my nightmare PE lesson in school. Haven't lost much weight though feel much fitter. I'm going for endurance first and when I reach the end want to improve my pace, currently on a 14 min/mile and covering 2 miles if I don't include my cool down walk.

FitByForty · 02/08/2014 18:51

Thanks CruCru. I'll take a look at that.
My postures not great in general so it could be that. I'm pretty tall at 5ft 9in and have been since a young teen when I got into the habit of slouching to be a similar height to everyone else and I've never grown out of the habit. I'm always surprised at how bad it is when I see pics of myself Blush

CruCru · 02/08/2014 19:16

Coumarin - I am a size 20 so I bought Nike capris and running tops online - I also bought a Sweaty Betty top but it is a bit too short (small) for me. I have a couple of Sweaty Betty yoga vests which are super long so a bit more forgiving.

Shoes - I bought from Runners Need years ago. Still okay.

CruCru · 02/08/2014 19:18

Hi Phoenixwoman, nice to meet you!

CruCru · 02/08/2014 19:19

Fitbyforty - in that case when you run, try to imagine a piece of string holding your head and neck up towards the sky.

Phoenixwoman · 02/08/2014 19:39

Whoop done it and found the two longer runs easier than three shorter ones.

EdwiniasRevenge · 02/08/2014 20:34

W2R1 done.

The only run I struggled with was the last one...which was ever so slightly uphill but boy did I know about it.

But I did it!

I am quite liking the fact that it is 'only' 6 runs. And ticking them off mentally makes them go so fast.

Coumarin · 02/08/2014 20:45

Addicted Thank you! Yes there's a couple there I really like. Smile Going to buy online I think, it's far easier.

Cru Yoga tops are a good idea, thank you.

DottyDot · 03/08/2014 12:40

Cou I hate shopping for trainers so am currently running in one and only ancient pair that I wear all the time and are falling apart. I'm a size 9 in ordinary shoes and the widest fitting, so with trainers I'm size 10 - always mens, obv., so I hate going and getting measured and sorted out for them. I got the pair I have now from a sports shop in Manchester and the man was lovely but quite cross on my behalf that because of the width of my feet I have to go up a whole size, as it's not great...

Just back from W8R2!! Grin Went really well considering how worried I was having taken a week off and eaten the world.... Grin

Feel back in the zone now - next run on Tuesday and then.... week 9!!

Am starting to try and focus on distance run rather than time run, as I'm realising I'll have to run for much longer than 30 minutes to achieve the 5K, so am trying to stop stressing about each minute and focus on how far I've got. I managed 4.2K today - including the 5 minute walks at each end of the run!

maffive · 03/08/2014 13:29

Wow! I haven't looked at this thread all week, and wasn't expecting so many updates. Interesting to catch up with all your progress though.

So just checking in to say I completed week 3 this week. Still can't believe how much I'm enjoying it. Let's see what week 4 has in store!

lovelidl · 03/08/2014 15:49

First proper 'race' today - 27.48 Smile

Was 63rd out of 160 and 21st female home. Very, very pleased and proof if anyone needs it that C25K works. When I started (second week of June) I struggled with the 30 sec of running.

WastingMyYoungYears · 03/08/2014 16:18

Well done lovelidl and maffive!

I'm starting Week 2 later on today Smile. And trying out my new sports bra too Grin.

spookyskeleton · 03/08/2014 16:24

lovelidl well done Smile Smile that is a seriously impressive time - be very proud of yourself!

dotty I don't think you lose fitness that fast and I bet you had a good time eating and drinking Grin Grin

Phoenixwoman · 03/08/2014 16:38

lovelidl how far was the race? You seem to have come along really fast, I started in May but taking my time as I'm really not a runner.

lovelidl · 03/08/2014 17:51

Was 5k. Came home inspired so have just signed up for a 10k in November! Shock

Thanks for the compliments Smile, I am v.proud and so should everybody be - whether you are on week 1 or week 10, doing 5k in 15 mins or 55 mins it is way, way more than most people.

Maybe I have been a runner for the last thirty years and just not realised! I hated PE at school and have avoided any exercise since.

Phoenixwoman · 03/08/2014 17:58

That's a really impressive time! Well done you. Dont think I could face a race, even a charity/fun run. I like the isolation of training by myself but hope I'll work up to it eventually.

PrivateBenjamin · 03/08/2014 18:14

Lovelidl that's an amazing time! Especially considering you only started running this summer. It's very inspirational.

I just did W1R2 and covered 3.4km, I am extra proud of myself for running in gale force strong winds and rain. I can currently see birds flying sideways from my window.

addicted thank you so much for those stretches. My hamstrings were killing me the day after my first run, hopefully tomorrow i'll be as limber as... a deer (?)

About 4 hours after my first run I got a really bad headache that lasted for 24 hours (but would retreat with painkillers). I definitely drank enough water. Has anybody else had this? Will it go away? My tomato face took about 6 hours to return to a normal colour and temperature so it might be something to do with blood being trapped up there? Angry

Watto1 · 03/08/2014 19:18

Just got back from my first run with my new GPS watch (thank you for the birthday present inspiration kasterborous!). It was the best run I've had in ages. Turns out my 30 min run is 3.5k rather than 5k though! However, according to the watch, my pace is 8.5km per hour which is faster than I thought but according to my maths I should have run 4.25km at that pace Confused . I must have looked at my pace on a downhill bit!

I'm determined to be ready for the half marathon in March.

CruCru · 03/08/2014 19:51

Well done lovelidl!

CruCru · 03/08/2014 19:52

Watto1 - which GPS watch do you have? I am not allowed to buy one until I've completed C25k.

Watto1 · 03/08/2014 20:18

CruCru It's a Garmin Forerunner in a very natty shade of violet! 99 pounds in the current Argos catalogue so not cheap but I'm only going to be 40 once!

WastingMyYoungYears · 03/08/2014 20:20

Eurgh, I just did W2R1 Confused.

As soon as I started running, I needed a poo (Blush), and both of my knees felt sore. I managed it, but I covered a bit less ground than on W1R3.

I've just looked up knee exercises on the NHS website, so I'll start doing those. I might think about going to gym to use the treadmill too, I think that's supposed to be easier on your knees. I had a duff knee when I used to run; now I seem to have two Angry.
