Ah good work! I think I'm off running until my neck is pain free. Going to see the doctor tomorrow.

ChameleonCircuit · 27/07/2014 11:18

Made it back! We repeated W5R1, but my friend decided she was going to keep going on the last five minute run, so I carried on with her and we did a full 8 minutes!! Grin Couldn't manage the 60 second runs to start with, and now look!!

ChameleonCircuit · 27/07/2014 11:19

Meant to say, sorry your neck isn't improving, CruCru. Hope the doc can help. If you're near Leeds I can recommend a shit hot acupuncturist.

DottyDot · 27/07/2014 14:22

Chameleon hurrah!! Grin

Cru hope you get some joy from the doctor tomorrow - is it still as bad or any better/worse?

Well dp and I got back from our lovely 24 hours away in Kirkby Lonsdale and 2 hours later were at the gym Shock. I'm just back from doing W8R1 - running a whole 28 minutes!! Grin.

Very pleased as we've had quite an indulgent weekend with lots of prosecco and good food, so it was good to do a run and start to redress the balance...!

However, off to the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday until Saturday, so no more gym until next weekend. Although we're camping and will be walking to various events, so it's definitely not a eat/drink/laze around holiday!

Might squeeze W8R2 in tomorrow night but other than that, that's me done for the week Grin

lovelidl · 27/07/2014 17:09

Sorry have not had a chance to catch up on this thread for ages.

I managed a 29.02 5k this morning which I was very very pleased with. Smile In the rain which helped - the heat has not been pleasant to run in!

When I started the program I also signed up for a 5k run which is a week today, never thought I would make it this far!

Maidupmum · 27/07/2014 18:31

Can I join? I'm at C25K w7r1 but I find running sooooo boring - I feel like I count every second of the 25 minutes.
I run in a gym because it's easier than outside and I've never been able to run before.

What do you all do to relieve the boredom of it???

spookyskeleton · 27/07/2014 19:21

lovelidl wow that is a fast 5k. You will smash it next week Grin

maid you need to run outside as you get a change of scenery!

dotty glad you need a good time Grin.

Maidupmum - audiobook was a suggestion I was given.

DottyDot · 27/07/2014 21:17

Blimey love that's amazing! Really fast - can't ever imagine getting to that speed Grin

maid I know exactly how you feel - my mind starts wandering and then I feel like I can't keep going. Today I got through my run by focusing on the trainers of the bloke in front Blush. I found watching something very intently calmed me down and got through quite a few of the minutes!

Maidupmum · 27/07/2014 22:02

I find it easier to run on the treadmill because there's a certainty to the 'terrain', gradient etc (I run at a gradient). It also provides a handy space for my drink/keys/towel Grin. I've tried running with my glasses on so that I can read the subtitles on the TV but I still find myself watching the minutes ... and seconds.
I know I'm not a real runner because I can only do it in controlled conditions but going outside scares the bejeezus out of me GrinGrinGrin

EdwiniasRevenge · 27/07/2014 22:20

Hi all, I'd like to join.

I started "running" about 10 weeks ago when a friend got me drunk and signed me up for the race for life which was this morning. I had planned to start the C25K back then but fell down the stairs and f*$&ed my ankle in a big way so did nothing for 4 weeks. DP is in the armed forces and has started me off with a training plan where I pace myself using lamp posts to alternate between running and walking but am only running about 45-60secs at a time.. I managed to do the Race For Life in 41mins this morning so dead chuffed with myself. I ran about half of it

I really struggle with the enduance though. I'm only running about a minute at a time, so I'm hoping to use the C25K programme to get my endurance up. I'm a bit worried because DP has looked at it and reckons it is an intense programme but I'm going to have faith in you guys as the experts.

As I'm already running 45-60sec intervals for 45mins I'm going to see how it goes. I'm planning to do W1R1 On Tues. If that goes well I'm going to skip ahead to W2 so we'll see.

what would you guys recommend? Downadloading the podcasts or using an App (would be looking for a free one on Android).

DottyDot · 27/07/2014 22:25

maid I've only done 1 run outside so far - I agree it's a scary place..! It went ok though and I ran at exactly the same speed I do at the gym, which was quite reassuring! I'm avoiding the great outdoors in this heat but am planning to do a parkrun in mid-sept with dp - we'll have both finished the programme by then and I want to work on my speed a bit before completely embarrassing myself Grin

WastingMyYoungYears · 28/07/2014 20:14

I've just run W1R1! Smile or more like Blush. Phew, but I'm hot.

I can so do this.

ChameleonCircuit · 28/07/2014 20:32

Of course you can WastingMyYoungYears! Welcome to the thread Smile

WastingMyYoungYears · 28/07/2014 21:13

Thank you Chameleon Smile.

I've just done some housework seeing as I was sweaty anyway, and now I'm going to have a nice relaxing bath.

I used earphones so that I could listen to my C25K app, but they kept falling out. Does anyone have some they can recommend?

ChameleonCircuit · 28/07/2014 21:21

I've seen Yurbuds around in a lot of running shops, but tbh I just run with my phone in my hand and no earphones. I use the Zenlabs C25k app, it tells you when to walk and run, and you can play your own music - but I found that I run better without music at the moment.

stilllearnin · 28/07/2014 21:48

I have jvc ones that hook over your ears. They were from sainsburys and are on offer. Smile

LaughingM · 28/07/2014 22:00

Yes, I have some that hook over my ears and they're pretty good. Can't remember the brand, but they were about £5 from TK Maxx.

Hi Edwinias! Welcome to the thread and well done for your Race for Life! That's a good time too - I think it would take me at least 40 minutes to run the whole thing if I could run that far. Good luck with your c25k adventure - I'm sure you'll do well with it if you're already run/walking 45 minutes.

I did w7 r1!! I am seriously chuffed with myself because I've been stuck moving back and forwards along week 6 for aaaages now Grin.

EdwiniasRevenge · 28/07/2014 22:23

Thanks.

I am run/walking 45mins but can only run for an absolute maximum of 3mins at a time...and need a very long walk recovery. I'm hoping that the C25K will help with that. The thought of week 5 scares me. Running for 5 mins twice in one session scares me. I shall be doing W1R1 tomorrow and depending how that goes may skip to week 2 on thurs.

Any recommendations. Should I use the podcasts or an app?.

I must remember to buy over the ear headphones tomorrow. I hate ear buds at the best of times.

LaughingM · 28/07/2014 22:32

I started off using the Zenlabs app, which I really liked as I could listen to my own music/radio alongside. However when I got to the long runs in week 5/6 I started downloading the NHS podcasts as well, as I was finding it really difficult to sustain running for that long and 'Laura' (the voice on the podcasts) gave me a bit more motivation.

Scared is natural, but you will get there, honestly!

Whatsthatnoise · 28/07/2014 22:38

hi just marking my place, so you lovely ladies stay on my active threads Grin hi to the newbies keep up the good work and I'll be back when you're all running 30 mins and I have to start again Grin

Coumarin · 29/07/2014 05:48

Just scanned every thread since the first one and so impressed by everyone who's completed C25K and those who've gone beyond it.

I've never imagined I'd ever want to run but I keep seeing more and more people, where I live, pounding past and I want to be one of them.

I really am starting from the couch though so quite nervous. It'll be a few days until I can start but marking my place now.

WastingMyYoungYears · 29/07/2014 05:57

Great, thanks for the earphone recommendations.

Grin WhatsThat. I found running for 1 minute hard enough yesterday... How far along C25K are you?

Coumarin, I only started yesterday, and I'm very much beginning from the couch. I had to tick sedentary on the form I filled in during my gym induction last week Blush. I also need to lose around a stone in weight.

DottyDot · 29/07/2014 07:42

Coumarin - I was the living definition of a couch potato an can't believe I'm now on W8R2! I never work have done it without these threads and have almost started to believe I'll be able to run 5k (in about 45 mins!!) quite soon Grin.

Off to the commonwealth games today to see some athletics - hoping for some kind of osmosis effect, obv...

Then back home and in the gym next weekend!

DottyDot · 29/07/2014 07:44

Should say I still am a couch potato a lot of the time... Blush
