I think a lot of people have rest days esp if they aren't used to this level of exercise. I think if you are doing other exercise as well it's probably sensible to have the odd rest day. I guess the more you push the more results you get. I did measurements yesterday (having said I wouldn't) and just over a week in I've lost an inch on arms and almost an inch on legs which is very exciting. I've upped the weights, to really push myself now. I started on baked bean cans, moved to bottles of poster paint and am now using old wine bottles filled with water (obv only works with screw tops). I'm determined not to spend money on this Grin

I have rest days (just had two days off RI30, in fact, though I did do a Pilates DVD this morning which was practically the anti-JM - no shouting, no sweating, just a piano in the background and lots of slow controlled moves - and I hurt more than I did at the beginning of the Shred! Pilates is the business: if I could get to a class taught by someone good two or three times a week, I don't think I'd need to do anything else at all. But alas, I don't have that kind of time or money.) Back to JM in the morning.

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 29/06/2014 22:47

So I just did my last day of level one and decided that straight a afterwards, as I was feeling okish, I would do level one of JMs 6 wk 6 pack abs. I did not die and am very pleased I managed to do it all. Am slightly concerned that I may not be able to move in the morning. Also had to stop near the end and scream and jump around and then flatten Shelob II who appeared about an inch from my face. But other than that s'all good.

I'm actually really enjoying working out. I was always the geeky girl at school who never got picked for teams and who got laughed at for trying to catch the ball. And then twatface ex always used to tell me that I'd never stick at exercising so I just used to diet madly to get my weight down and then spend the next few months eating cake and putting it all back on. But now, I've got rid of the ex and I'm going to get rid of my wobble and I'm proving that I CAN exercise.

Quick question though, is anyone else finding all the lunging and squatting is taking its toll on your pelvic floor? Is there anything you can do to minimise that or do I just need to do PFEs like crazy? Or is my PV just particularly shit?

Day 6 of 30 Day Shred done!

ImogenQuy · 30/06/2014 07:04

RI30 L1D5 done. Felt very tired this morning - I really had to push myself to get through it.

Shadows, congratulations on the inch loss (and on getting rid of the ex!). I think you probably need to do pelvic floor exercises along with the Shred: unlike Pilates or yoga, you don't specifically exercise the pelvic floor, and if it's a bit weak to start with it probably will suffer, though I'd have thought it would be all the jumping around that would cause problems, rather than the squatting and lunging.

ddas · 30/06/2014 08:38

Had a unscheduled rest day yesterday as dd got up at 5 then had a long drive back after being away the wkend so we didn't get home till after 11pm and by then just too tired. Determined to get back to it thus evening.

shadows the first couple of days no issues with pelvic floor but for some reason on d4 was awful. Every time did the jumping jacks had a small leak (sorry if tmi!!). My diastasis I think is improving through this but guess I better dig out my postnatal pelvic floor exercise booklet too!

Hi shreddies. Bit late in the day for June but am starting the shred tomorrow.

DS is 20 weeks, is it going to be too soon to try anything so high impact?

I don't think I've got any stomach separation (I'd know, wouldn't i?). Should I still modify any of the ab stuff?
Had SPD in pregnancy but can now walk 5 miles in an hour with not so much as a twinge so hoping that is now fine.

I want to lose 3 stone (also dieting, walking) and rediscover my waist!

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 30/06/2014 17:31

To check if you have a separation lie on your back with feet on the floor, legs slightly bent (like you would if you were going to do crunches). Rest a finger in a central position just above your belly button. Lift your head off the floor and come up a little way, not a full crunch. Your finger should fall into the space between your tummy muscles. See how many fingers fit in the space. 1 finger space is considered normal, 2 is getting dodgy and suggests you have had babies recently! And anymore than that is diastasis recti - which means you need to be doing the modified ab exercises as mentioned upthread.
