If I weren't having a mini crisis about half marathons, I might very well do that Kristina :)

That very first training run where I got to HM distance was OK but the 2 times I've run 13 miles since have been absolute agony from about mile 11 in. I thought it was the hills at the first one but the same thing happened at the 2nd. Lots of training needed for the next one in July I think!

I have a few fun things to do in the meantime. Next up is a relay race next Wednesday. Have just found out that "running wife" (who has been getting much, much faster recently and was just 2 minutes behind me at the last half despite being injured) is going to be on another team and running against me! Need to do lots of training this week in order to not be left totally behind I think! I was thinking squats and planks and trying to get lots of iron....?

< remembers blathers has been training with mad ultra people and withdraws job offer >

Blathers -just checking that you've had the recommend 13 days recovery period since your HM? < innocent >

PolkaSpottyDotty · 23/04/2014 20:05

Hi to everyone!

I've got a bit behind, will have a lovely evening catching up :)

Just a very short 2 miles for me tonight, my first run in the rain. I was a bit cautious of my footing, did not want to go falling over! Managed a consistent pace, averaged 10 min/mi so now I know the pace I'll need for a sub 30min 5k. That won't happen, it felt very fast.

Hope everyone is well and injury free. Going to have Cake and sleep very soon.

Blatherskite · 23/04/2014 20:23

I don't train with many of them. I just watch in awe :)

13 days recovery between HM's? I can't not run at all for 13 days! Shock I felt lazy for not doing a recovery run the day after this one and later wished I had as that quick 5k last time really helped with the aching!

I did 4 miles on Monday and 5.5 today. Will probably do another 5 or 6 miles tomorrow night - or maybe intervals as they might help with the relay - and then parkrun on Saturday and a long run (1hr 20) on Sunday. I'm enjoying getting back to it now the holidays are over.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/04/2014 20:59

I've walk/run with ds1 and felt awful, second time I tail ran while he did it and we were less than 2 mins behind slowest. As an RD and regular volunteer I don't mind anyone having a go to be totally honest. When it's cold the shortest possible time is great but we want our parkrun to be inclusive and great things come from this. I am friends with a lot of the volunteers and still felt guilt that he took 45mins but I am never unhappy about people taking their time. We had a guy who's train was delayed last week and although he actually ran in 18mins something his official time was 44 mins!

Itsaboatjack · 23/04/2014 21:00

Hi folks. Can I join you. (Thanks for pointing me this way Sirzy)

My entry is in for London Marathon next year. And I just got confirmation that I have a place in Paris, which is also April next year. So tomorrow I dust off my trainers and make no more excuses.

Sirzy · 23/04/2014 21:03

Evening all. A combination of busy with dissertation stuff and eating badly means I feel really sluggish and horrible tonight. Not managed to run since end of last week and not really exercised. need a real kick up the backside to get back on track tomrorow.

Blatherskite · 23/04/2014 21:05

Welcome jack. My Facebook feed has been full of people getting places for Paris today. Congratulations

Sirzy · 23/04/2014 21:06

When is Paris jack?

CQ · 23/04/2014 21:11

Sirzy - the combination of school holidays, too much chocolate and the weather turning crap again will also not have helped. Tomorrow looks as if it's going to be brighter so get yer arse out there Grin

My failsafe is to lay my running gear out the night before, so I just roll out of bed and put it on without having to think or search. That way, even if I have to sort kids/breakfast/school run etc, the minute I am free, I can just head out the door.

Go on, you know you want to Wink

Sirzy · 23/04/2014 21:13

Taking DS to preschool then getting changed and going. Not letting myself sit down when i get in from the school run as I know I will find an excuse to not go out then. Then off to do the asda shop and get my eating on track again too.

Sounds like a plan Sirzy!!!

Did anone read my hm ramblings earlier? Any thoughts on which one I should enter?

Itsaboatjack · 23/04/2014 21:18

Paris is 12th April Sirzy, so will be 2 weeks before London.

Thanks Blatherskite

CQ I have often spent all morning in my running gear and still not managed to go Grin

Sirzy · 23/04/2014 21:20

Not sure cinnamon. How much is the price difference? That would probably sway it for me

originalpiratematerial · 23/04/2014 21:20

CQ that's funny, I've just come downstairs from saying night-night to DS3 and laying out my running gear ready for tomorrow morning!

Sirzy · 23/04/2014 21:21

Will be a busy few weeks then if you get London too!

I only put my running gear on as I am heading out to run. Even to the point of getting dressed 'normally' taking DS to preschool then getting changed as soon as I get in!

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 23/04/2014 21:45

It's £10 difference Sirzy. I know what you mean about clothes, I don't like to make a big deal about running so never go anywhere in my running clothes but will need to go to school in my stuff Friday or I won't have time to fit my long run in :(

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/04/2014 21:48

cinnamon I was surprised to read that St Neots usually sells out in 24 hours. I was considering it because it's not far from me.

In your shoes I would be torn between trying something new, and trying to beat my previous time Grin

KatoPotato · 23/04/2014 21:52

Hi guys! Sorry to hijack, but thought this might be best thread for advice? My friend has just announced on a whim that she's signed up for the bupa 10mile run on Sunday

It's for a great cause of course, but she's approximately a size 24 with absolutely zero training and does no excercise. What are the real dangers here? She's more a friend of a friend but she's got a chip on her shoulder because I lost lots of weight and calls me an excercise bore!

I've commented on Facebook that it's 16k and does she realise how gruelling this will be, but she says she'll be fine?

Are you allowed to just walk a 10mile event like this? It's not exactly a fun run!?

CQ · 23/04/2014 21:54

Ha, well yes, I do also put a large hoody over the top of all the lycra. And I am forbidden to get out of the car at school!

And yes, being in running gear all day is still no guarantee of a run, but it does increase the odds. Especially since CQDogs get v v excited when I put trainers on, so if I don't actually take them out I get pestered all day. If I want to go for a run without them I have to sneak out the front door, tiptoe to the back door where my muddy trainers live, and put them on round the corner out of sight Grin

Mitchy1nge · 23/04/2014 21:56

wow she's brave - maybe it is one of the ones that welcomes walkers? most people could walk it comfortably in 3 hours

I wouldn't do a 10 mile run on Sunday and I've run that distance many many times (but only once all year)

CQ · 23/04/2014 21:58

Sorry, x-post Kato.

Your friend will struggle, but will probably make it round. There are always a surprising number of people who walk these events. Hopefully the worst that will happen is that she'll get some blisters and unsightly chafing in some tender places.

I think it's hard to get out there and start doing anything when you have got too overweight, so it's no bad thing if you have goaded her off the sofa. Maybe she will enjoy it and want to start training properly. Hope there's lots of supportive crowds to cheer her on.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/04/2014 22:00

cinnamon just had a look at the Norwich one as well now (I only checked out St Neots earlier on) and if I were choosing I'd go for St Neots. Not sure why Smile

KatoPotato · 23/04/2014 22:02

I just hope it won't put her off trying more in the future! I've only just got to running a 5k so I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

She keeps calling it her 'run' so I told her to pace herself and think of the finish, am I right in thinking the worst would be if she teared off at the start she'd find it tricky to make it but if she only walks then she might be okay?
