Starting the next thread for all those doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred - Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
For those having problems with their knees on the higher impact activities here are some suggestions from TalkinPeace:

^The secret is to build up the teeny muscles that support the side of the patella:

LOTS of balancing and yoga

  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, knees slightly bent, lift one foot off the floor, close eyes and see how long you can hold, repeat to other side.
  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, up onto tiptoes with legs straight, close eyes for as long as you can
  • stand on one foot, move the other foot to the front, side, back, side, in smooth semicircles about two inches off the floor - five each way each side before resting.

Alternative to skipping : march on the spot, bringing your knees up as high as you can.
Alternative to running : walk at jogging pace, pumping arms up to ceiling
Alternative to jumping jacks : half jacks, pump arms alternate sides and ceiling.^

L2D5 and no longer look as though I'm going to die from boiling to death.

My knees are starting to hurt.

I wish I'd made a change with my eating. Perhaps I'll do that next 30.

Logg1e · 04/02/2014 21:07

Oops L2D6 done (sorry, but this is the only record I'm keeping).

tanukiton · 04/02/2014 21:24

ErrolTheDragon I am going to try the 5:2(waltzes off to find a good thread). Can't this week as i have my daughters party and a large buttercream cake. The shred has been a BIG impact. So much fitter. I just have a kilo or 2 of flub to go. I am trying NOT to eat the kids left overs. I find it really hard to throw food away.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2014 21:32

Tanukiton, here is the main 5:2 rolling thread - there's also a 5:2 exercise thread where I've been getting lots of good advice. Your DD's birthday does not preclude you starting it this week, incidentally - that's the beauty of the thing! It was my DD's birthday today, and while she's beyond the party stage we had lots of Chinese food and a small but heavily iced fruit cake this evening... I fasted yesterday, and will again on Thursday.

Mumtoh · 04/02/2014 22:35

So I did L2 yesterday morning before work then did a body balance class last night which left me with a sore lower back. I really didn't enjoy the class and I have always loved it. Came on today though so that hasn't helped (but it explains my weird mood for the last few days...)

So, I haven't shredded today but aim to be back on it tomorrow night. Wish I could get up early and do it but I am soooo tired so obviously I am on mumsnet at 10.30pm instead of being asleep

msmoss · 04/02/2014 22:41

Hello just wandering by to mark my place so that when I start again tomorrow I can come and tell you all Smile

I still have about 11 days to go to get to 30 but last month was a bit crazy, am hoping for a bit more calm and time for healthy eating and exercise this month.

intheround · 04/02/2014 23:15

ARGHH been knocked sideways by a horrid virus- everything aches. Need to rest for a few days

FlockOfTwats · 04/02/2014 23:40

I am being tempted by the last piece of chocolate cake. Someone stop meeee.

spinningirl10 · 05/02/2014 07:52

Eroll....it was my ds's birthday yesterday....18!!!! I feel old. Went out for a lovely Italian meal with family. I was good and had a huge prawn platter with salad. I did have a piece of her Baileys birthday cake that I'd made!

spinningirl10 · 05/02/2014 07:53

Oops just checked calendar and I'm D24 L3 d6!!

2tiredtocare · 05/02/2014 08:23

I've managed to lose 6 pounds in about 3 weeks but I ovehauled my diet as well as the exercise

TessTackle · 05/02/2014 09:47

I started the shred again today, only managed 3 days last time :(

so d2 l1 d2 Grin

2tiredtocare · 05/02/2014 09:52

Go Tess Smile

2tiredtocare · 05/02/2014 09:53

Have you noticed much change spinninggirl?

TessTackle · 05/02/2014 09:55

Thank you 2tired I managed to do the whole thing with only a quick water-gulp break, but I'm worried I haven't pushed myself enough?
Lots of comments on the video (youtube) said they couldn't get past 6-8 minutes.

2tiredtocare · 05/02/2014 10:00

Don't forget that some people are starting very overweight/unfit and are bound to find it harder. Were you sweating? I can do it without a break but my face leaks!

TessTackle · 05/02/2014 10:11

That's very true, yes I definitely sweat and have leaky face. I had so much hair stuck to it by the end Grin

2tiredtocare · 05/02/2014 10:12

Then we must be doing it right Smile I don't look like Jillian when I work out, boo

spinningirl10 · 05/02/2014 10:15

Well done TessGrin

2Tired....great weight loss well done!

Yes I've lost weight and inchesGrin when I was out last night for dd's birthday I was told I look very thin!! I don't but my stomach always tones nicely and I was wearing a bodycon dress which accentuated my slimmer waist! I carry weight on my hips but I've also lost a couple of inches from themGrin
Oh and I am doing 45-60mins of cardio in the gym 4 days a week.
I have also cut out all rubbish from my diet and am watching my carb intake and drinking loads of water.

I am really loving JM, can't believe I hadn't found her before!

TessTackle · 05/02/2014 10:19

I haven't been very good with my diet if I'm honest. I'm not expecting miracles from the shred. But I need it to kick start my weight loss.

I lost 2 and a half stone last year and it's slowly creeping back on :(

I'm going cold turkey no junk, no snacking unless on fruit and no eating after 8pm from NOW.

Well done with your losses spinning & 2tired I weigh 11.13 alot! I'm hoping I can do as well as you all.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2014 12:00

L3D3 done, plus 3x16 wide arm and narrow arm inclined press-ups.

Welcome Tess - sounds like you're doing well. Keep at it, the first 3-4 days are usually the hardest.

WillColbert · 05/02/2014 12:01

Just checking in - L3D3 of Ri30 done!

TessTackle · 05/02/2014 12:21

Thank you Errol I'll keep coming back and checking in.

2tiredtocare · 05/02/2014 12:35

Sounds like you looked great spinning Smile

spinningirl10 · 05/02/2014 12:45

Tess...well done on the weight loss last year! Stick with this thread it's really supportiveGrin
