Starting the next thread for all those doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred - Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
For those having problems with their knees on the higher impact activities here are some suggestions from TalkinPeace:

^The secret is to build up the teeny muscles that support the side of the patella:

LOTS of balancing and yoga

  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, knees slightly bent, lift one foot off the floor, close eyes and see how long you can hold, repeat to other side.
  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, up onto tiptoes with legs straight, close eyes for as long as you can
  • stand on one foot, move the other foot to the front, side, back, side, in smooth semicircles about two inches off the floor - five each way each side before resting.

Alternative to skipping : march on the spot, bringing your knees up as high as you can.
Alternative to running : walk at jogging pace, pumping arms up to ceiling
Alternative to jumping jacks : half jacks, pump arms alternate sides and ceiling.^

Yes please Flock I really wish I'd taken measurements and photos now. I can definitely see a difference in my waist, and we both think my tummy's improving.

(Come on bum and thighs!!).

MrsMarcMarquez · 03/02/2014 17:16

L1 D4, abs are sore, calves are sore, biceps are sore. Please tell me the pain ends soon. Would it be better to have a day off and rest them or push through the pain?

monkeytennismum · 03/02/2014 17:48

L1 D4 completed (but over 8 days): I'm going to try and do it 5 times this week. Replacing some of the crunches with plank to prevent too much pressure on my PF!

I honestly wouldn't have got the DVD out again today if I didn't feel the pressure support of this thread Wink

Logg1e · 03/02/2014 17:54

It got better for MrsMarc about day 3. I have one rest day per week.

FlockOfTwats · 03/02/2014 18:22

Mrsmarc - Day 3 was the killer for me. Day four was mildly better. Day five i wasn't in any pain at all.

i haven't had any rest days and don't plan to :)

2tiredtocare · 03/02/2014 18:28

Go Monkey!

FlockOfTwats · 03/02/2014 20:15

Monkey - I try to keep my pelvic floor tight when in doing it as much as possible.

I have 3 dc and youngest drilled through it and decimated it by coming out looking to the side but its getting better and ive only had slight leakage once doing 30ds and tbf i did need a pee (i usually pee before i start).

Been for a little run with the dog tonight. Dog may be dead on the rug lol. Hes enjoyed himself. Nearly got me lynched because the poo bags mustve fell out of my pockets and he had two massive poos so got to go back and clean them up now. although if its by the house of the bastard who lets their dog crap directly in front of my door i might just post it through their letterbox

Lindt70Percent · 03/02/2014 22:55

L2D8 done today. Had the weekend off and today felt good. For the first time I managed to do the oblique twists and skater circuit without stopping - whoop whoop! Didn't look particularly stylish but still did it. Two more days and then I'll move onto my dreaded level 3.

Keep going, I want you to feel like you're gargling your Envy!

LakeFlyPie · 03/02/2014 23:04

No Shred as I forgot I was going to the theatre this evening, good job my Mum phoned to enquire what the plans were for getting there this afternoon or she would have arrived to collect me to find me in my Shredding attire Blush

Back on it tomorrow.
Well done on run Flock and the non stop oblique / skater business Lindt
The pain does suddenly disappear sometime during the 1st week MrsMarc; I was relieved not to make an involuntary groaning sound when sitting down on the toilet (by about D5 I think)

FlockOfTwats · 03/02/2014 23:19

Does the pain return in level 2? I dont think i actually did level two last time as i found out i was pregnant the day i finished level 1. I may have done a couple of days, i cant remember.

FlockOfTwats · 03/02/2014 23:43

Ok, i'm in a happy mood. Here are some day 1 pics (In the red bottoms) and today (day 8)

s36.photobucket.com/user/PileofFreaks/library/

I think theres a change. The whole mid section of my stomach was much softer and spongier and sort of hung out more before (As highlighted by the flash i didn't know how to turn off lol). My belly button seems different, And some of the padding on my hips has gone.

Ive lost the bloody paper with my measurements on, But i think they were 35 upper waist, 37 on the largest part of the belly and 37 hips before. I will retake when baby removes himself from my boob.

FlockOfTwats · 03/02/2014 23:43

(And please excuse the state of the room behind me, its become a bit of a dumping ground for the kids toys and disused baby items)

2tiredtocare · 04/02/2014 02:04

Doing well Flock you can definately see the difference, thanks for sharing

FlockOfTwats · 04/02/2014 02:19

Im so glad you can see a difference, I Was worried i was kidding myself haha. It definitely feels tighter. Last time level 1 pretty much got my stomach how i wanted it to be but obviously, i wasnt 12 weeks post partum then and my elder two were 34 weeks so i didn't have that last few weeks with them, where with the extra few weeks carrying ds2 i seemed to really pad out.

He really did a number on my stomach muscles, I was shocked at how much longer it took me to recover - With ds2 i literally ran across the hospital an hour after birth (I was escaping from the midwives because i wanted to see him in neonatal).

I could barely walk for days after this little monkey! First because of the epidural and then because of the pain!

spinningirl10 · 04/02/2014 07:29

Morning Grin

Day 22 L3 d4 done!!

Great pics Flock, you can definitely see a difference!

Lindt....well done on your progression .

WillColbert · 04/02/2014 09:35

L3D2 of Ri30 done.

Great to read how well everyone is progressing.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2014 09:41

L3D2 shred done. I'm enjoying L3 now I can do most of it properly. (except the travelling push-ups). Also did some rows, military presses and deadlifts.

2tiredtocare · 04/02/2014 13:09

Day 5 Level 1 done

Lindt70Percent · 04/02/2014 14:48

Hello! Thanks for all the encouragement. L2D9 done today. I didn't think I'd ever feel on good terms with L2, but I can now announce that L2 and I are officially friends.

I'm really hoping I'll get on better with L3 this time. Last time I got as far as L3D4 and then stopped, although this was really because I couldn't continue as I hurt one of my shoulders falling downstairs. I then completely gave up which seems crazy. This time I'm planning on getting through 10 sessions of L3 and then moving on to 6 pack in 6 weeks because I bought that DVD about 4 years ago but only did it twice.

Flock I'm so impressed with your pictures. You can definitely see the different. You were looking good before but now you're looking really good. I kind of wish I'd taken pictures but I was worried about where they'd end up as all our pictures sync on various devices and I didn't want them getting to shown to anyone by mistake.

MrsMarc, for the first 4 days I couldn't sit down or stand up without groaning (which my daughter said was really embarrassing) but since then I've felt fine.

Keep it up everyone. I want you to feel like you're going to die. Grin Never been too sure of that as a motivational sentence!

FlockOfTwats · 04/02/2014 17:35

Thankyou for the lovely comments guys, really helps stay motivated. Loving this thread so much.

Just done day 9 of level one. No run for me tonight though - i cooked up sone lamb last night, thinking it would be ok even though it had been defrosted a bit longer than it should be. A few bites and i knew id made a huge mistake, felt positively ill all night and now got the runs (sorry if tmi) Managed the shred but not wanting to risk leaving the house! Knew i should have just binned the bastard stuff.

LakeFlyPie · 04/02/2014 19:51

L3 D2 done, had to swap the jumping rocks or whatever they're called for jump rope. Sounded like an elephant about to crash through the floor.
I feel like some of the strength moves are more cardio and vice versa on L3 but the overall feeling is one of "about to die" so must be doing something right.
Have had much healthier couple of days food wise so am really hoping to see some blubber disappearing this / next week.

omama · 04/02/2014 20:15

Hi all

Am thinking about giving this a go but wanted to ask - are any of you seeing a difference in your weight too, seems like its mostly in the measurements? I need to lose both inches & pounds! Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2014 20:16

I feel like some of the strength moves are more cardio and vice versa on L3

Yes, they definitely are - which I like by L3. 'Rock star jumps' ...well I'm sure I look like a real rock star doing them given that those guys are all eligible for bus passes now. Grin Not sure I'll get off the ground tomorrow after DD's birthday dinner tonight!

ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2014 20:21

omama - to lose weight you really need to combine some form of change in the way you eat with exercise. Apart from burning calories, you need to exercise to maintain (and hopefully improve) your muscles, but unless you do an awful lot you can't really just exercise and hope to lose significant weight while eating the same as what caused you to gain weight or stay stable. But this 20 mins really does make a difference to inches. I'm doing 5:2 as well.
