Starting the next thread for all those doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred - Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
For those having problems with their knees on the higher impact activities here are some suggestions from TalkinPeace:

^The secret is to build up the teeny muscles that support the side of the patella:

LOTS of balancing and yoga

  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, knees slightly bent, lift one foot off the floor, close eyes and see how long you can hold, repeat to other side.
  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, up onto tiptoes with legs straight, close eyes for as long as you can
  • stand on one foot, move the other foot to the front, side, back, side, in smooth semicircles about two inches off the floor - five each way each side before resting.

Alternative to skipping : march on the spot, bringing your knees up as high as you can.
Alternative to running : walk at jogging pace, pumping arms up to ceiling
Alternative to jumping jacks : half jacks, pump arms alternate sides and ceiling.^

Having to have a rest day, fell over my own too long pyjamas and hurt my knee and ankle.
Hopefully back to it tomorrow!

FlockOfTwats · 11/02/2014 21:09

Level 2 day six done. Had to go easy on some of the leg work because in really feeling the strain in my knees and not in a push through it way - so took skaters slower and high knees not so high.

the plank jacks were a lot easier though, got through both sets at Natalie level and speed without slowing down or stopping.

L3D2. My partner's turn to laugh now - I can't do those back kick jumps to save my life. I just can't figure out how to make my feet go backwards, I end up flailing my arms around and gurning with concentration. I think one of the kids wet themselves in hysterics.

Lindt70Percent · 11/02/2014 22:01

Surprised myself and managed to fit in L3D4 this evening. I felt I had to do it somehow after all the junk I've eaten today.

Logg1e, I struggle with the 'rock star jumps' too but today I managed to do half of the 1st set and the whole of the 2nd set which I was quite impressed with.

L3D4 is where I gave up last time but I feel so much more determined this time.

tanukiton · 11/02/2014 22:19

30 DAYS DONE!! I meant to post but got a bit under the weather so only finished it yesterday! I am going to go back through it a bit and take it easy this week. From next week thinking about ripped.... It has to be something that fits in round the kids for now. My husband is home at about 10 or 11pm! so weekdays there is no time and weekends I want to blob.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2014 22:24

Well done tanu!

Nearly there Lindt.

Mumtoh · 11/02/2014 23:11

I've been rubbish yesterday and today, not shredded but did do half hour of tai chi/yoga at class last night. Just had v busy couple of days. Was aiming to go to bed early and get up early but been on the phone to a friend who's feeling glum for an hour so that not looking likely. Need to get my ass in gear tomorrow and Thursday!

Sorry I'm not more positive!

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2014 23:32

being there for a glum friend is a very un-rubbish thing to do.

Logg1e · 12/02/2014 06:41

There's hope for me yet then Lindt!

Well done 30 DAY COMPLETER!!

NotGoodNotBad · 12/02/2014 08:10

So can anyone over 40 (30?) do those rock star jumps properly? No chance of my feet getting anywhere near my bum. Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 12/02/2014 08:26

So can anyone over 40 (30?) do those rock star jumps properly?

no - I think I'm doing well if I can get them anything like Anita's.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/02/2014 08:26

I like the jump squats though. Smile

WillColbert · 12/02/2014 09:33

I'm over 40 and can't do the rock star jumps - I ended up replacing them with jump ropes.

L3 D6 of Ri30 done.

Well done spinning and tanukiton!

monkeytennismum · 12/02/2014 10:21

Thanks for all the birthday wishes ladies, I'm feeling the love Smile

L1D8 done this morning (with my pelvic floor modifications) and feeling slightly less of a struggle. Liking the sound of rock star jumps.........

ErrolTheDragon · 12/02/2014 11:10

L3D8 done, and various inclined press-ups.

I paused the dvd between the final cardio exercises today to allow recovery - that allowed me to get a bit of a back-kick in the rock star jumps. Not quite kicking my butt but better.

Lindt70Percent · 12/02/2014 11:45

I'm 42 and am rocking the rock star jumps (have to hold onto boobs though).

There are many other things I can't do. Those scissor things still hurt my back and lying on my back raising and lowering my legs make my hips clunk. The bit when you have to lie on your side at the end of level 3 - I can do this but don't think I'm doing it right as this just hurts my back too so I'm substituting this with the cycle movements that I think were at the end of level 1.

It's all a compromise.

2tiredtocare · 12/02/2014 14:08

Steering clear of the shred today as feeling very ill and feverish, noticed it coming on yesterday when I was shredding it felt so difficult

Mumtoh · 12/02/2014 17:46

Thanks Errol she appreciated it.

Wow. Just done L3 for the first time. Significantly harder than L2. Not helped by the fact my DVD is faulty and got stuck on the last circuit. I had to quickly find a youtube L3 video (which was someone exercising to L3 with her small son running round...)

Then, not satisfied, did Davina fit in 15 core section, which was harder than I remembered when I did it a couple of weeks ago. I am going to have the shoulders of a weightlifter with all these planks and push-ups! Wouldn't care but it's my flabby belly I need to sort!

Now very sweaty so off for a shower.

LakeFlyPie · 12/02/2014 20:13

L3 D8 done.

The rock star jumps are shocking, don't think my legs could manage a full set but it's my pelvic floor (which has improved greatly since doing Shred) that they don't agree with so I do butt kicks instead.

TessTackle · 12/02/2014 20:15

L1 D8 done, how do you know when you're ready to move on to level 2? Do you just automatically move up after 10 days?

ErrolTheDragon · 12/02/2014 20:18

tess, it's up to you - 10 days seems to work for most people I think.

Mumtoh, planks and push-ups build core strength not just upper body!

TessTackle · 12/02/2014 20:54

I'll see how I go for the next 2 days. I don't think I'll be having a rest day again, bloody hard getting back into it!

FlockOfTwats · 12/02/2014 21:58

Day 7 of level two done.

Pushed myself again today after going easy on my legs yesterday :)

Stomach definitely feeling it.

The strangest thing happened yesterday though, the bottom of my stomach was all bloated, top was completely flat though? Almost like when you first start getting a baby bump. Its ok now, was it just bloating? I had had some dr pepper and a lot of grapes

tanukiton · 12/02/2014 23:17

30d+
l 2 d 2 going back over l 2 with 2 kg weights and a bit of l3 modification. I can do the plank jacks and the other planky moves!!! I hated l2. It is so nice to see that I am getting fitter yeah!
