Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Morning Grin

Two good things happened today Smile.

I don't have the official time yet, but I think I SMASHED through the 28 minute barrier Grin - I paced myself with a regular who is always faster than I am and though I wasn't wearing my watch hers said 27.45 Grin Grin

And a few weeks ago I dropped my bike lock key as I was leaving. I went back to look for it later but it was gone Sad. Today it reappeared when I went to collect my bike afterwards Smile. It deffo wasn't there when I parked my bike I wish the Good Samaritan had come forward to give it to me in person so I could say thank you. I went to talk to the RD, but she couldn't shed any light on where it had come from.

Hope you all had good runs.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 10:28

I was over 28 mins, legs like lead thanks to a cold :( so much for a PB!

Lovely though that everyone was wearing Santa hats and other costumes.

Standingonlego · 21/12/2013 10:29

It must a morning for good things! As i was seriously flagging in our nasty course head wind a kind soul from the local running club appeared like magic and ran the last 1.5 km with me egging me on all the way and dragged a sprint finish out of me somehow - i could not even breath to say thank you until about 5 minutes later Xmas Grin. I was so exhausted i forgot to ask him what our time was so have to wait for the text now!

rosy71 · 21/12/2013 11:47

I was disappointed not to get a pb today Sad There were absolutely loads of runners though; must be something to do with Christmas!

thenightsky · 21/12/2013 14:03

Wooooow.... PB.... 24 seconds off my last one. Probably due to the new, 70 metre shorter course Grin

Did everyone else find loads of runners turning up in fancy dress this morning? We had prizes for best costumes and every runner got a gold medal with a santa picture on. Xmas Smile

Standingonlego · 21/12/2013 14:20

well done nightsky fabulous result Xmas Smile

We had little fancy dress, but they are doing a Christmas Day parkrun so think that is when the costumes will appear. a few Santa hats though Xmas Grin

time in...27.04...a few seconds of pb of 27.02 and the elusive sub 27m...oh well there is always next week :)

MelanieCheeks · 21/12/2013 14:49

Well done all!

Weather wasn't great here, and as I was faffing with MapMyRun it was trying to get me to upgrade, and I lost about 28 seconds at the start. But cam in at a respectable 29.04, a minute better than last week.

thenightsky · 21/12/2013 15:38

Weather was great for us. Very little breeze, 11c and dry.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 16:27

Well done everyone!

Was warmer than I thought which didn't help but was really windy!!!

Blatherskite · 21/12/2013 17:24

I really struggled this morning. I may have had slightly too much to drink last night and had had less than 6 hours sleep too!

I managed the trial parkrun in under 30 minutes (bearing in mind my PB is just a little over 26 minutes!) and then opted to keep the tail runner company for the official parkrun. She's a friend so it would good to catch up and I got to not feel too bad about all but walking round.

I came home, had a shower and some food and then napped on the sofa. I feel like death warmed up but am still trying to talk myself out of entering a 20 mile run near OhOne. I've never run that far before (longest is 13.1 although I've not even done an official half marathon yet!) and am currently feeling unfit because of the lack of running I've done thanks to my calf injury. But - it's not until March and my calf is feeling a lot better so I could maybe build my way up to 20 miles by then....

karatekimmi · 21/12/2013 17:41

mini kimmi and I had a great time marshalling. he had a good splash in all the pudles then sat quietly stuffing his face with croissant waving at the runners! I really enjoyed it, but cant wait to run next week. there are people running an unofficial one on Christmas day, but ill still be in my pj's at 9am!!

Well done everyone.

Blatherskite · 21/12/2013 18:16

AFAIK the Christmas day and New Years day ones count towards your totals. It's the only time the rules are bent. It is even possible to do 2 runs on NYD as some start at 9am and some at 10:30!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/12/2013 18:19

Well done runners!

I took 34 seconds off my PB. Gin, white wine and dry sherry (in that order) with DH's home-made curry are obviously the recipe for success Grin

Hope your cold clears up cinnamon

Well done lego - so near and yet so far Smile

Fabbie-doo nightsky

The crowds must have put you off rosy

Good improvement Melanie

Well done on your double parkrunning Blathers. I will come and cheer you on if you do the 20. It's certainly not on my list of races to run Grin.

Glad you enjoyed your volunteering kimmi. Mini-kimmi sounds adorable!

Blatherskite · 21/12/2013 18:31

Tell me how horrible it is OhOne. I need talking out of entering

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/12/2013 19:30
Grin

Blathers, you need to kiss goodbye to your Sundays as you will be doing long training runs. They start at 6 miles - easy - but quickly ramp up to 10/12/14/16....

You need to run 4 or 5 times a week, in this dreadful weather...

If you are like me, you will need new trainers/socks/clothes/bras etc all of which cost a fortune...

You will have to cut down on going out and, if you drink wine at home you will end up having it on funny days of the week because you only have wine when you are not running the next day...

You are more likely to get injured because you are training so much...

BUT

You will be the fittest you have ever been, in a near constant cloud of endorphins Smile. You can eat your own body weight in carbs and protein and not gain a pound. You will lose inches and tone up (not that you need to!) and feel a great sense of achievement when you have finished.

Does that help?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/12/2013 19:31

And it's only 2 miles after the wall, not 8.2 Grin

thenightsky · 21/12/2013 19:35

OhOneOhTwoOhThree Your post made me sad for my old running days, when I could do that sort of training Sad

It's a FAB post though and sooooo true Grin

These days I'm an old lady who gets arthritic pain at 30 mins.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/12/2013 19:40

Awww, thank you nightsky.

We had lunch with a friend today who is training for a marathon and I was saying I couldn't imagine how I'd managed to do all my training - as they pointed out, it's all a matter of priorities. And it was a lot easier to get up at 6am and go running in June then it would be in January.

thenightsky · 21/12/2013 19:43

'priorities' exactly! These days I 'can't' run coz I put anything in front of it... shopping, work, hangovers...

God woman, you are inspiring me!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/12/2013 19:52

Good! Get inspired for the New Year Smile

I need to match my words and inspire myself Grin

Blatherskite · 21/12/2013 20:10

OK -
Before I tore my calf, I was doing the long Sunday runs with the club anyway so I had already well and truly lost them. I've seen at least 3 members of one of my clubs signed up already and it's part of my other clubs training schedule for the Marathon in May so we'll all be doing it together which should make it easier.

I'm planning on doing Janathon so will be running every day for that month anyway. I did Juneathon too and struggled to stop once the month was over so if the same goes for Janathon, I'll be running a lot anyway

When I'm not in Christmas party season, I actually go out very little anyway so I have no social life to lose.

Losing inches and toning up is definitely something that I need to do and would love as a side effect. I've put on almost a stone this year and I'd love to lose it again.

I actually don't mind running in the cold.

It's not until March so I have over 2 months to train.

BUT -

Buying more kit is always a pain

This calf tear has really dented my trust in my own body. I think because it came out of the blue and with no obvious reason, I feel a bit nervous about pushing it now.

I've never run more than 13.1 miles (I've not even done an official half yet!) and 7 miles is a lot of uncharted territory!

The run was cancelled last year because the weather was so awful and I'm not keen on running in the rain when it's cold. Especially for that long!

You don't even get a medal! It's a hoodie

thenightsky · 21/12/2013 21:11

A hoodie is way better than a medal Blathers!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 21:29

I got a long sleeve top for my half and although it's very useful and a nice momento, it's not a medal :(

Love how you put it OhOneOhTwoOhThree! I miss training for a half. Thinking of doing the Cambridge boundaries half but you finish half way round the full marathon and get a bus back so that puts me off slightly. That's not until march though which seems ages away!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/12/2013 21:47

cinnamon - if that's the same as the Cambridge half, it's sold out already, except for charity places (was looking earlier).

The MK half is the same day, which I'm thinking about Grin. I think Blathers isn't running that because her DH got in first, but could be wrong Smile

So, Blathers, sounds like there's not much to lose by entering? Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 21/12/2013 21:52

It's 2nd march, doesn't look full, says 384 entrants so far.
