Thanks. I kept going doing one thing or other until then end. I doubt I'll be able to move onto week 2 for a few months though. I quite liked the music and tonight was a fine night for being out.

DH did it after me so hopefully we can support each other.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/01/2014 07:21

Make sure you're not trying to go too fast StarlightMcKingsThree, it's just a gentle jog not full pelt run :)

OP posts:
StarlightMcKingsThree · 03/01/2014 09:37

Fast? I reckon I'm slower running than I am walking. I really am going as slow as I can. Must be doing something wrong though coz Dh did it too and says he aches. I don't ache.

AllFurCoat · 03/01/2014 09:57

starlight well done for starting! It honestly does get easier! My "running" is more a bouncy walk half the time, but it all counts! When I first started, I found the first week impossible, 2months ago I posted elsewhere saying I'd cut short all the 2m runs. Then I had a month off cos I was poorly and yesterday ran 20m with a 1m walk in the middle! At first it feels like you'll never do it, but honest, you'll get there!

lookout I'd just realised that too! I'm either going tonight or tomorrow morning, ideally I'd like to do tomorrow, but I'm going to keep an eye on the weather forecast!

StarlightMcKingsThree · 03/01/2014 13:08

Well I hope it does get easier. I might try again today. It says to have a day of rest but if I did that it may well end up being a year. Nothing hurts so I may as well.

lookout · 03/01/2014 14:29

As it turns out tomorrow is my last available day for a lie in of the holidays so I'm going to have a 2 day break and run on Sunday instead. It's forecast to rain more heavily tomorrow too so leaving it til Sunday might be the best option anyway.

Starlight, it definitely does get easier. And I don't ache either. I find it weird because others do, but I'm doing what I'm supposed to, a light jog, sticking to the times etc so I just carry on. I find it takes less and less time to recover between runs and that's how I know it's getting better. You should really try and have a rest day if you can, even if you don't ache, your muscles are still repairing and need the time to do so. I know some people run every day though with no trouble, you just wouldn't want to get injured so early on in your commitment!

RunRunRuby · 03/01/2014 16:02

I don't usually ache after running either. I find some other exercises make me ache though. Perhaps it depends on your body shape and what your body is used to doing. Sometimes I get a cramp in my calf during the run. I've always had crampy legs so I just ignore it. Not aching might be a good sign as your technique is fine if not causing you any pain :)

starlight it will definitely get easier. I've been raving about C25K to everyone as it has made such a difference to my life. I really struggled in the first couple of weeks but now I can run 30 minutes no problem. It's worth having rest days and sticking to just the three runs per week at first to avoid burning out or getting injuries, but obviously up to you what works for you! I'm pretty sure I was slower than my walking pace in my first few weeks but now I'm a little faster at running than walking, that's not something I've deliberately worked on, it's just happened. I'd say focus on just doing the runs for now and then when you can run for 30 mins you could start doing speed work if that's what you want, but I'm sure as you get into it you will speed up naturally anyway :)

AllFurCoat · 03/01/2014 17:36

I had achey legs last week, but I've put that down to getting proper running trainers and that correcting things which is making my muscles work properly, or something!

I'm hoping the weather's not too bad here tomorrow cos I won't have anyone to watch the DDs on Sunday, so I'm going to have to go tomorrow morning! Also got to make sure I drag my arse out of bed in time to go!

cinnamongreyhound · 03/01/2014 20:35

I ached after week 1 but not after that and I ached aftery half marathon, but I really pushed myself for that!!!

This weather is really starting to get in my way now! I don't mind a little bit of rain but it's a storm out there. Go away wind and rain!

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 04/01/2014 09:06

Me too Solve. its blowing a gale here. I don't mind the rain but the wind too is too much. Sad

Rugbylovingmum · 04/01/2014 09:48

Urge, should be doing week 2 run 1 today but have been feeling really rough since yesterday lunchtime. I'm lightheaded, dizzy and have a headache plus I feel a bit queasy. Was in bed by 8pm last night but still feel awful. Hope I feel better this afternoon - I'm a bit scared of missing a run this early on in case I just give up.

AllFurCoat · 04/01/2014 12:51

W5r3 completed! I thought it was actually going to kill me at one point! I'm so proud of myself though! 20 minutes running! Need a nice carb heavy lunch now!

I hope the weather improves for everyone soon, I've managed to avoid the rain so far, but am dreading the days where it'll be pissing down and I'll have to drag myself out!

rugby I hope you feel better soon! Don't push yourself to go out til you're recovered, it won't do you any good if you're not up to it!

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 04/01/2014 13:05

Today I went out and looked like a drowned rat. W7r2 done.

Rugbylovingmum · 04/01/2014 13:25

Thanks AllFurCoat - I'm feeling a bit better but taking the DC to a birthday party this pm so will see how I feel after that. Should point out my last message should have started with urgh - stupid autocorrect!

AllFurCoat · 04/01/2014 13:57

Well done Halle is w7 when it switches to 20m runs every day? Did it seem any easier than the w5 20m run?

Good luck at the party rugby I'm at a soft play one tomorrow, dreading it already!

HalleLoujaandHappyNewYear · 04/01/2014 14:16

25 minute runs every day on the NHS podcast. Wasn't too bad.

originalpiratematerial · 04/01/2014 16:11

Hello all, sorry I've not been around for a bit! Have been running but not posting. Had a week off around the Christmas period (was ill) but am back on track now, did 2 x 5 k runs and a 7 k run during the week, and 4.5 k including some intervals this morning.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 04/01/2014 16:26

Well I'll be going out for WK1 R2 tonight, around 10pm if it isn't raining.

I can't bear the faff of getting changed etc. so like R1 I'll be doing it in my jeans with my feeding bra on Hmm and plimsolls.

If I had to get changed I'd give up once my clothes were off and go to bed instead.

I never could wear trainers so I have to figure out something better than plimsolls though, if I keep up with this.

lookout · 04/01/2014 17:01

It really is worth going to get your gait checked and getting some proper running shoes. You'll be amazed at what a difference it makes to how you feel when you run. Also you'll need a proper bra!!

Feeling rotten to have not been out for two days. Tomorrow morning I will be doing w5r3, glad to hear you managed it AllFur!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/01/2014 17:16

Get well soon Rugbylovingmum!

StarlightMcKingsThree I think trainers are a good idea but while you're early on you're probably ok. We have a guy who runs the park run in a shirt, smart trousers and proper dress shoes Shock and he's 74 and faster than me!! I love my leggings wish I'd got some sooner!

OP posts:
StarlightMcKingsThree · 04/01/2014 17:36

I have curves that mean trainers never fit. Really. My feet are VERY wide and VERY short as are my calfs, meaning I both trip up and chaff the backs of my legs with the raised ankle support they have.

I have had a professional fitting which meant they felt okay in the shop but chaffed walking home in them.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/01/2014 18:38

Have you tried barefoot ones?

OP posts:
StarlightMcKingsThree · 04/01/2014 20:18

No. What are they?
