managed 2 days and had to give up this week due to fatigue. will try again next week.

has anyone actually changed their body shape through these exercises? i wouldn't want to be as muscly as the girls on JM. i wouldn't be complaining with their washboard stomachs though

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2014 07:28

has anyone actually changed their body shape through these exercises?

I'd really like to have their muscles, but haven't .... however, I've always had sturdy legs but following JM they're leaner, and my butt is in better shape and my upper arms have a bit of tone to them and I can keep my tum flatter.

I guess it depends what you consist of now, but for someone inclined to plumpness like me, muscle looks much better than flab, it helps burn fat, and it really makes the rest of life easier to be stronger. Smile

spinningirl10 · 23/04/2014 07:31

Jan....the girls on the JM DVDs do a lot more than JM to look like they do. That's hardcore dedication to exercise and dietGrin
BUT you will see results and changes in your shape if you do it regularly. I love my toned arms. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I agree with you Daddy and Errol re the duck walks, they are so hard.....I do my best but can't go as low as Natalie does!

I was poorly yesterday but feeling a bit better this morning so will hopefully do something laterGrin

StuntNun · 23/04/2014 07:31

Jan I have lost 2cm from my waist and my arms and legs are noticeable improved - bingo wings gone, thighs tauter and a definite bulge in the calf. I think there is an improvement in my tummy too but it's still masked by flab. Hmm If you want to emphasise your waist then you need to work on your obliques. The stomach vacuum exercise is really good for narrowing your waist too.

spinningirl10 · 23/04/2014 07:46

Ooh yes the stomach vacuum, I forgot about that.....Stunt, have you been regularly doing it and have you seen a difference?

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2014 07:52

I don't think there's a link to the 'stomach vacuum' on this thread - I didn't bookmark it as it's not complicated, but the video helped. Anyone got that?

Theonlyoneiknow · 23/04/2014 07:53

The main change I have noticed is definitely my stomach/abs. Not so sure about everything else. Wish I had taken before and after photos! I have lost 4lbs but am also running twice a week and doing JM three or four times a week

jan2014 · 23/04/2014 08:01

my waist is my problem area. i have hula hoops but they only worked for the first 2 weeks, now they cease to make any difference.

StuntNun · 23/04/2014 10:55

Jan Pilates is good for a long lean waist. Also I have the Kettlebells for Beginners DVD and that seems to have a lot of obliques work for example sit ups with the kettlebell held to one side so that your abdominal muscles have to counter the off-centre weight.

jan2014 · 23/04/2014 11:16

Sounds good... i'll look up some short you tube pilates videos i think and see what comes up!

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2014 11:30

My 2 new DVDs (6wwp and NMTZ) have just arrived... really want to try them!

spinningirl10 · 23/04/2014 12:30

Ooh exciting ErrolGrin I'll be interested to see what you think of 6w6p, L1 seems popular but not L2 so much. I haven't got that one.

I've done KB&T L3 today and that's enough as I'm still feeling off colour!

IdkickJilliansAss · 23/04/2014 14:34

NMTZ done, feel better soon Spinning

LindtSeventyPercent · 23/04/2014 14:43

Hello everyone. Well, I've had a long break. Haven't JM'd since last Wednesday which is the longest break I've had between sessions since the new year.

We went away with friends over the Easter weekend and so had no opportunity to do anything then and when we got back I thought I'd wait for the kids to go back to school (today) before starting again. Only ... I haven't started again.

I'm quite scared to get back into it.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2014 14:47

Lindt - not that long a break, I stopped over the xmas and half-term holidays and started back again just fine. A proper rest of a few days once in a while (termly or half termly is convenient!) can be quite beneficial IMO.

EarSlaps · 23/04/2014 17:57

Back on with it after the Easter holidays off. I did Killer L1, I really like that one. I'm going to try and fit one in tomorrow but then we're away for the weekend. So it will be full on next week to try and get rid of the Easter pounds Grin.

spinningirl10 · 23/04/2014 19:49

Thanks Kick :)

Lindt wondered where you were, hope you had a nice break.....see you back here tomorrow after your JM fix :)

IdkickJilliansAss · 23/04/2014 20:43

I wondered as well Lindt Smile I've done some body conditioning tonight so now enjoying a gin

StuntNun · 24/04/2014 07:14

I have a new kettlebell arriving today. It's turning into a serious addiction. I must check out SIWW.

IdkickJilliansAss · 24/04/2014 08:36

Do you get the cast iron ones Stunt?

Theonlyoneiknow · 24/04/2014 08:56

Wow how, much are kettlebells? I am going to try a class at,the gym and see how i get on.

Am enjoying doing both Level 1 and 2 of RI30 but Skip the plank mountain climbers as kills my arms . Takes maybe 50 mins for both.

StuntNun · 24/04/2014 09:01

Yep all three are cast iron. They're all different brands because I got the cheapest ones off Amazon, about £15 each. If you go to a class then they'll have kettlebells, you don't need to take one. I use a 4kg for one handed and overhead work and an 8kg bell for two handed swings, squats etc. I anticipated that I wouldn't be able to go straight from a 4kg bell to an 8kg bell for the overhead work so I have a 6kg bell on the way. The class I went to was all swings and big compound movements but the DVD I have is a lot more subtle and I think will be extremely good for the figure rather than just building up brute strength the large muscles of the legs.

Theonlyoneiknow · 24/04/2014 09:22

Which DVD do you use?

IdkickJilliansAss · 24/04/2014 09:47

My friend uses 16kg for one handed swings! She is a personal trainer though.

StuntNun · 24/04/2014 11:28

It's this DVD OnlyOne. I'm fine with the 8kg bell for one handed swings IdKick but on the DVD you're doing things like a halo with the kettlebell around your head or sit ups while holding the kettlebell above you with one hand. With the swings you use the muscles of the legs to drive the weight up and just hold on to it with your hands so it's great for developing e.g. glutes and hamstrings. I'm trying to shift the baby flab at the moment so I'm more interested in toning my abdominals and lower back to improve my posture and shape.
