Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

IsThatTrue · 28/09/2013 14:37

27.15!!! Grin (although its only 1 min quicker than my pb not 2, I was doing myself down)

I'm a very happy lady!

No PB for me but I'm still nursing my knee so I wasn't going for one at all. I'm just pleased that my knee was just tight rather than sore today.

Only 6 left to go until I get my tshirt now :)

Imwoodword · 28/09/2013 19:07

I did 25.51 today, which was nearly 2 minutes off my previous PB! Ran with my husband at my parents local course, think having him spurred me on - he is a very fast runner, took it slow for me today!

Well done all who ran Smile

IsThatTrue · 28/09/2013 19:36

Well done imwoodward

I run at 2 local ones and there's almost 2 minutes difference in my pbs. Must do the other one next week to try and get my pb down there. I think there can be a lot of discrepancy in different courses depending on your strengths. The one I ran today is relatively flat. The other has a massive hill in the middle. I despise that hill!

Blatherskite · 28/09/2013 20:55

Mine has a big hill in the middle too IsThat. When I went and did Northampton, I actually missed it!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/09/2013 21:47

Ours is 2.5 laps of a park - but we do the hill three times Smile.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 28/09/2013 23:14

Good luck Iggity

BTW when I was handing out tokens I dropped them while trying to give number 18 his token. I had 18 in one hand and the rest in the other. I was too busy concentrating on trying to get the token to number 18, and not concentrating on the rest so dropped the rest. So that was numbers 19 - 100 all mixed up all over the floor. Whoops. It was fine there were loads of people to help me out, other volunteers plus a couple of the early runners.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/09/2013 12:00

I started with a sore throat/runny nose last night. Not what I need, when I'm supposed to run 24 miles today Grin. So off to Boots to stock up on anti-cold medication. I happen to have tomorrow off, so will postpone the run until tomorrow and try a short one today. I'm a bit grrrr, because I'm feeling so much better than last week and really motivated again.

Iggity - hope you had a great half marathon, looking forward to hearing about it!

Iggity · 29/09/2013 14:19

Well survived my first half marathon. It was in Ealing in West London and they had closed most of the roads. The best thing about it (apart from the end) was the support and cheers from the locals. There were lots of people (even some in pjs and dressing gowns) cheering us on.

I decided to follow the 2.15 pacers but I lost them at about 12 or 13k after a series of hills. The worst part of the course was a massive hill at 5k and the best bit was towards the end when it was downhill or flat. I thought I was going to collapse at end but managed to stay upright. I can only admire people who run this distance and longer. It's hard! Don't have time yet but think it was about 2:20 and am pleased with that as I was initially worried that I wouldn't get around before they started to close it down after 3.15 hrs.

I would really recommend it as it is one of the few half marathons in UK where they close down the streets and it was lovely running in the sunshine despite the hills.

Well, I don't know what I am going to do with my time now once my poor feet recover apart from buy new trainers and get them properly fitted instead doing my own DIY gait analysis. I have horrible blisters inside the arches of my feet. Hope I recover in time for next Saturday :)

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 29/09/2013 14:27

Well done Iggity I bet that post-run buzz is amazing for you right now.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/09/2013 15:24

Well done Iggity (ouch to your blisters) Thanks Brew Cake

IsThatTrue · 29/09/2013 17:16

Well done iggity that's amazing! :)

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 29/09/2013 20:19

Well done Iggity. That is a very respectable time for a first half!

I'd definitely recommend getting a proper gait analysis done and getting some properly fitted shoes. I spent about an hour in Sweatshop the other day having mine done and have special moulded insoles and it's like running in slippers. No blisters at all.

I hope your feet heal quickly

IsThatTrue · 29/09/2013 20:23

Oh and I second (third, forth?) the gait analysis. I went to a little independent running shop near us and spent over an hour in there. They found me the best shoe for me.

I also recommend twin skin socks and Vaseline on the feet before a run. Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.

Plus, you get to come back on here and boast about your Neutral gait and forefoot landing and we'll all know what you're talking about

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/09/2013 21:08

Right Blathers, maybe you can help. I have a neutral gait, and have been running in Saucony Triumphs for the last 3 years - I have had the 7's, 8's, 9's (which I didn't like as much as the 8's because they made the heel back higher) and now the 10's which took some getting used to, but I'm now really liking. I started running when I lived in the US and they were the ones the running shop recommended. I can't find many stockists here (other than online) so am thinking about trying something else - any thoughts on what I might like - I will of course go to a shop and get fitted Smile.

Blatherskite · 29/09/2013 21:09

Physio for me tomorrow. Cross stuff that he fixes my knee!

IsThatTrue · 29/09/2013 21:11

Good luck blathers! All is crossed for you!

I've been told as I've lost weight and am now nearly a year post partum that I'll need my grit analysing again :( I was hoping to just buy the same style shoe online next time at half the price :(

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/09/2013 21:22

All crossed Blathers! Hope it goes well Thanks

MelanieCheeks · 29/09/2013 21:26

Terrible park run for me thus week- over 31 mins. I was pretty hungover, and decided not to bring my dog with me. I think both of these May have contributed.
Dh and I are planning to have an Oct-sober, it'll be interesting to see if that has an impact on my times.

Blatherskite · 29/09/2013 21:28

My current ones are the New Balance 1080 V3's and I love them. Good for a neutral gait and with a low heel in comparison to some other makes which is good for me as I already land on my forefoot so don't need to be encouraged to by a higher heel.

They're a vivid pink/purple but very comfy.

But...the only pair of Sauconys I ever tried, I didn't like because I thought the heel back was too low whereas I like these so you may not...

Blatherskite · 29/09/2013 21:29

^ for Ohone

Blatherskite · 29/09/2013 21:33

IsThat - you don't have to buy the shoe when you have the analysis done. I know plenty of people who go in and get fitted and then buy the same shoes online cheaper.

Not good for the store obviously but not the end of the world
