Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Well done Isthat; a great time! Well done you. I say go for the one in October!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/09/2013 17:33

Well done IsThat! Brilliant time, next time you will be under an hour Grin

I was a bit slower than you, but did my 22 miles (and 0.65 mile walk home after I stopped running).

IsThatTrue · 15/09/2013 17:36

ohone to run 22 miles (at any speed) is amazing I did 6 miles and felt pretty horrendous! (Feel really sick tired and headaches now) but I think that's down to the combination of running and sleep deprivation.

Lizzylou · 15/09/2013 17:40

Well done isthat! You star Smile
And Ohone, 22 miles? Shock

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/09/2013 21:55

IsThat could you be a bit dehydrated?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/09/2013 22:01

Oh and I keep meaning to say thank you to the posters who suggested Vaseline for my feet! It has worked a treat! Grin

IsThatTrue · 15/09/2013 22:07

That may have been me, I Vaseline my feet before every run over 30 minutes. (Which is now every run, when did that happen?!)

I think I am a bit dehydrated but there's definitely something up with my tummy. Just thrown up dinner, bleurgh. Fingers crossed I feel better tomorrow! I've been drinking lots but it just gurgled around and makes me feel even more bleurgh!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/09/2013 23:58

Oh you poor thing! Hope it is not the dreaded runner's tummySad

Newrowsees · 16/09/2013 19:58

You ladies are all doing brilliantly - some amazing distances!

Sadly I missed parkrun last week but will be back with a vengeance this Saturday! Am aiming to whittle a few seconds off my time. I've decided I'm at my goal weight (3 stone down), so am focusing on other goals now - run faster, lift heavier etc. I managed a slow 12k jog on the weekend which I never thought I'd do - am going to contemplate attempting a half marathon next!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/09/2013 21:19

Newrowsees - well done on the weight loss and your 12K!

IsThatTrue · 17/09/2013 06:55

Well done on your weight loses newrow I'm still battling with mine. 33lbs down 17 to go!

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/09/2013 10:49

Wow IsThat! Imagine how fast you will be when you drop those last few pounds Grin

IsThatTrue · 17/09/2013 19:32

I know ohone that's what I'm clinging to for my PB's, the hope that not having to carry my lady arse round makes me faster!

I did 6.5 k (4miles) in 40 minutes this evening, 2 miles of that I did sprint intervals. I actually have a half decent sprint on me --although it only lasts about 90 secIt's not pretty though, the pictures from Sundays race came out today and my sprint finish was decidedly unattractive!

I hit a new on for me of 39.37. I'm delighted as I'd given myself 6 months to get in the 30's but managed it on my fourth run. Woohoo. How the hell are you all losing weight? Tips please as I've lost nothing since starting in June.

Newrow well done. Do share your top tips.

IsThatTrue · 18/09/2013 00:47

baking when I started running I stopped virtually inhalibg biscuits snacking, reduced my carbs, upped my veg, reduced my portion sizes and started to drink lots and lots of water. Recently I've started 5:2 but that is more to do with the health benefits than the weight loss element.

I think exercise us great to help tone etc but I don't think it necessarily makes you lose weight, diet is the main factor for that.

According to the scales at my parents' house (I don't have any of my own) I have lost about a stone this year. I've definitely dropped a dress size or two over the past few months. I didn't particularly set out to, although I'm glad I did, as there's less of me to heave around, which has to be good for my knees and ankles. I did it gradually by:

  • cutting back on alcohol - I started with a dry January, then DH was working away for a while so it became a mostly dry February and March as well - once I got out of the habit of having a glass or two most nights, I didn't get back into it. I apply the 5/2 principle to drinking (five days off, two on) Smile, and try not to squeeze a week's worth of alcohol into two days Grin.
  • building in exercise - we moved house and we're a mile from the station, I got fed up of walking, and resented paying silly money for parking on top of train fares, so I bought a bike. Once I had paid for it I decided to get my money's worth, so I now bike to the shops if I just need a few things instead of driving, bike to parkrun and so on. If I have time I get off the tube a stop or two early and walk the last bit to work.
  • at the moment, running ridiculous amounts 5 times a week although I gave myself the day off today. I tend to go out before 7am - I think I read somewhere that your body burns fat better earlier in the day. I'm ravenously hungry all the time, but am trying to only eat normal portions. I fear that one I come to a juddering halt in November I will still have the huge appetite, but will not be burning any of it off Smile.
  • trying not to snack in between meals.

This all sounds quite smug and/or virtuous, I'm not really!

MelanieCheeks · 19/09/2013 07:37

I'm hoping to get back to my ParkRun this week after a month's absence for various reasons.

My diary says that I'd planned to go to Victoria Park this week with Mollycuddles - you still about, MC? (Hey, we have the same initials Smile)

IsThatTrue · 19/09/2013 08:21

One of our local parkruns is having its second anniversary this weekend, and it's being run by junior volunteers :) should be fun, so that's where I'm heading this weekend.

5k buggy run this morning

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 19/09/2013 09:31

Enjoy your buggy run IsThat.

5 chilly miles here - and a bacon sarnie when I got home Grin

IsThatTrue · 19/09/2013 16:03

Had a lovely run, although was quite slow pace 10.53/mile but there were a few quick stops for sorting DS out and having to walk in the (very busy) road around a removal can that was blocking the whole pavement. And I think the fact I have to slow a lot for curbs doesn't help but I don't really want to give DS shaken baby syndrome. :)

Blatherskite · 19/09/2013 16:12

I'm tail running again this weekend. Ah well, it's one more ticked off for my 50 t-shirt. This will be number 43.

IsThatTrue · 19/09/2013 18:45

Oh blathers you're much closer than me! :( tomorrow will be number 8 for me. I can't wait to get a tshirt!

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 19/09/2013 20:44

It's been a long old slog but it was one of my goals to make it to 50 this year so I've hardly missed one all year. Should be done by mid-November...assuming I can still walk by then! I appear to have hurt my knee doing fartleks tonight :(

Newrowsees · 19/09/2013 23:30

I'm not sure I'm the best person to be giving out tips on anything! But what's worked for me is using the Myfitnesspal app to log calories in and out - it's been great for forcing me to have sensible portion sizes and exercise consistently. But now I've caught the running bug I may need it to make sure I'm eating enough Grin

IsThatTrue · 20/09/2013 16:14

So who's aiming for what tomorrow?

I want to get a pb, on that parkrun my pb is 29.47 (29.21 on the other course).

So no alcohol tonight, and in bed by 10pm (as DS is up 12, 3, 5).
