Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Isthat, dh uses vaseline on nipples and other areas for his triathlons.

Godlessdomestic · 02/09/2013 08:21

We have a fabulous park run at a local common. It used to be an airbase so it is lovely and flat for most of the course. My DH runs, my DD has run a couple of times (encouraging her to run more often is challenging as she is scared of the sheer amount of people - between 250-300 per week) and I have started to volunteer. I am too scared to run as I'd be last and completely rubbish!! I think to get over this (and to persuade DD to run more often) we are going to go and run/walk the course one evening. DH has made some good friends and has improved his running so much by participating.

IsThatTrue · 02/09/2013 08:25

godless is it the couch 2 5k you're going to do? I've heard great things about it. Good on you for volunteering, there would be no parkrun without volunteers. :)

Well done to everyone who did Parkrun this week. I didn't make it, feeling pretty tired as haven't been sleeping well lately.
Managed a slow (35 ish) 5k from work on Thursday though and have decided I don't like road running nearly as much as running along tracks and trails.
Did 6 k yesterday and really enjoyed it - definitely prefer a morning run - I rarely feel as good after a afternoon/ evening run. Anyone else effected by the time of day they run?

woundbobbin · 02/09/2013 20:02

Jelly I prefer a pre work morning run as generally to tired by the time I get home and can never guarantee finishing work at a reasonable hour.
When I was last marathon training I worked long shifts so did my long runs on my days off and sprints hills short runs after work.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/09/2013 20:41

I also prefer mornings.

Bobbin - any marathon tips to pass on?

woundbobbin · 02/09/2013 21:18

My marathon tip would be pace yourself going out to fast or to slow spells doom! Are you aiming for roughly 12 minute miles ( I guessed that from your 20 mile time) I used to write down on a hospital wrist band what time I wanted to pass each mile marker ( or you might have a fancy watch that does this) - some marathons have pace makers as well I'm sure you will get in under 5 hours so maybe find the under 5 hours pace maker and run behind themGrin

Blatherskite · 02/09/2013 22:07

Running in the mornings is definitely easier from a motivation point of view but I do love a good evening run too. I had a rubbish day today and went for a run when I got home. I felt so much better afterwards and have had a nice, relaxing evening rather than being stressed and miserable.

IsThatTrue · 03/09/2013 03:29

I seem to be able to push myself further in the mornings but I love running in the evening. Ds2 is only 8mo and still bf on demand, and to be able to go out after a long day and not have a baby surgically attached to me is wonderful. Morning runs just find have the sane stress busting qualities.

Off for 10k tomorrow evening (well technically it's this evening) less than 2 weeks for my race! > gulp

My local parkrun has asked for volunteers as pacers. As I've only done one, please someone enlighten me....

Where the two chatterboxes behind me just there to keep me going?! I was amazed that anyone could talk and run and TBH they were really getting on my nerves. I sped up a bit to get away!

IsThatTrue · 03/09/2013 19:19

Pacers usually wear hi vis vests with their time (ours have 17, 22, 25, 27, 30 minutes) so you can judge your pace by them.

They helped me get my sub 30 this week.

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 03/09/2013 19:27

Oh, we have no pacers, that would be awesome.

Blatherskite · 03/09/2013 21:17

We only have pacers every now and again. As True says, they will run the course in a set time/pace so that you can judge your pace by them and try to keep up with a faster one to get a faster time round the course.

I'll have to wear something distinctive Standing and let you know so you can look out for me :)

Lizzylou · 03/09/2013 21:20

I have spotted a woman who I will stalk this week though, she ran a good, steady pace and was just in front of me all the way, think she got just over 29mins.

IsThatTrue · 03/09/2013 21:51

lizzy we only have pacers on the last sat of each month.

Did a lovely 5.5 miles ( about 8k?) with some friends tonight. Although came back to a sobbing baby and stressed husband. Oh well, I had a lovely hour of adult chat, and no 'mumumumumum' noise in the background :)

Woohoo to MN parkrun meet up :)

thenightsky · 03/09/2013 22:08

We need to wear something so we can recognise other Mumsnetters on the parkruns. The mumsnet scarf as a bandana or something Grin

Blatherskite · 03/09/2013 22:27

Would be more distinctive than my usual black shorts and black vest that's for sure :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/09/2013 10:37

I wrote a long post on my phone about running attire and lost it. I will try to recreate it later when at a proper keyboard Smile .

So are we all ready for tomorrow?

IsThatTrue · 06/09/2013 11:11

I'm volunteering and running tomorrow. I'm setting up the signs :)

Fx DS sleeps better tonight so I can push myself. It's so hard when working on 5hrs interrupted sleep.

IsThatTrue · 06/09/2013 19:34

Go blathers I love a bit of parkrun tourism :)
