cinnamon, what did that involve?

I am aching today. I went to try out a gym yesterday. I started c25k as an alternative to the gym, but I'm still missing the resistance stuff and so found a very cheap off peak gym that I could run or walk to then use for resistance and maybe stuff like crosstrainer and rowing machine on my non-run days. I am determined to shift the rest of this weight by the summer!

It's a run day today though, I think I am still going to go, but it might be a slow one!

Tabbycat, well done for starting, have sent you a friend request on MFP :)

Cheers chops!

Today is a rest day but will be doing some sit-ups etc as the real problem area is my dreadful stomach. Have a wedding to go to in just over two months and currently can't do up the zip on the dress I'm planning to wear as have put on quite a bit of weight since it's last outing!

I found mfp from this thread, so other way round!!

It was 5x 4 mins runs with 1 min recovery, then 3 min recovery and 5x4 mins with 1 min recovery in other direction. I was managing 800m in each 4min bit so faster than my usual pace and it got so cold towards the end my face was going numb!

I've done it. W6R3. It feels really good. The first 5 mins were really hard but after that I got into my stride. I did 27 minutes in the end, and I was honestly less out of breath than I was after 1 minute in Wk 1. Grin

Well done french It feels good, doesn't it!
I went out along the river today, bit muddy which slowed me down ;)

I did a 3.5 mile run a bit earlier on this evening - GPS on my phone kept losing itself so I was slower than I think I was (or possibly I was just slow Grin). Felt better for having done it. Will be doing some cycling tomorrow but in a transport rather than fitness way. Still is better than going by car :)

sounds great cinnamon.

I only did 2.5 kms yesterday, then I was bursting for the loo so had to head home! Blush I have been known to dive in the bushes in the woods, but couldn't exactly do that on Ascot racecourse!

Legs are still really sore from the bloody gym, so will stick to cycling for today and then hopefully be up to a good run tomorrow.

well done Miranda and Frenchfancy.

jchochip, I love running through mud, and I'm sure it must burn more calories! Grin It's nice to vary it too.

I hate when I forget to wee before I go but it hasn't stopped me so far! A lady at my club is constantly darting off into the bushes but she has done several marathons and some 24hr races so I guess it becomes second nature?!?

Hmmm.... think I've been told off! One of the coaches from my running club posted in our fb group that they are doing 2 loops of the breckland 10k race with head torches. I put I don't have a head torch, she has replied I have two but as you are racing sunday you should be resting! There's no way I would have done two but I thought once round would be good for my race Sunday, gives me Saturday off to relax. Never raced before so really not sure what I should or shouldn't be doing. She was at track on Weds and seemed fine that I was there, it's not like I'm doing a marathon it's 10k so an hour (hopefully) running.

Good luck with your runs Tabbykat and Julezboo, I was just about at the end of the c25k at this time last year, it's really changed me life!

Oooh! cinnamongreyhound, a race? All the best for it!

Welcome Tabbykat! I?ve been wondering what the Chiefs were so I?m glad you told us. Smile

So this morning I did W7R1 and as planned I started running at the start line of my local parkrun and went all the way around. After my 25 minute run I deliberately walked all the way back to work out my maximum possible humiliationtime should I feel up for doing a park run tomorrow. It took me a couple of second short of 19 minutes to walk back to the finish line so a total time of just under 44 minutes. That?s only a couple of minutes slower than the slowest time shown on the website and I felt like I could have run for a couple of songs on the walk back, so if I get up in time (by no means a given!) I think I?ll have a go tomorrow. We?ll see.

Yay! Go for it NurseEzzzaChapel! The slowest at my one was 48mins and if you can run for longer you'll be fine. Plus they are supposed to have a tail runner so you won't be last anyway. In fact my friend whos on our set up committee said if anyone is worried about being last they can volunteer to do their first one as the tail runner then there's no pressure at all!

The race is called Mud and Mayhem, I think it's going to be very muddy judging by the weather forecast :(

Lots of posts since I was last here - been busy celebrating my DS's 10th party (and baking cakes). So not much running this week.

Hello to all you newbies. Good luck on Sunday cinnamon, have fun tomorrow NurseEzzzaChapel the beauty of parkrun is that it's you against the clock and extremely friendly, well done frenchfancy you are making great progress and everyone else - well done.

Happy running. Smile

Yay go for it nurse I'm lucky my run has a number of slower than me people so no pressure- I'm trying to break 48 - we are a three lap course with a steepish hill - I am faster at the one near my mum which is flat.

Went and did the parkrun today, made it with few mins to spare! My friend was race director today so she had my boys and they were at the finish line to see me. Went off way to fast and was knackered but think I may have beaten last week by perhaps 20 secs. Ds1 was very disappointed as he was 'inspecting me to be first'! But they seemed to enjoy it and ran around like loons while I chatted at the end!

Woot, I lapped someone at parkrun today!!!! They were being particularly slow though..... Nice cool day for it and no sun in my eyes :) Nice that your boys were there to see you cinnamon :)

That's lovely cinnamon. They'll be running it with you soon. And congratulations to you jchocchip - did you enjoy the run?
I did the parkrun, as usual with my DS. Neither of us got a PB but enjoyed ourselves and the chat in the cafe afterwards.

Report
cinnamongreyhound · 16/03/2013 20:30

I got PB by 7seconds!! I don't think they'll join me anytime soon, dss is 11 and has done cross country at school and enjoyed it BUT he said what I did today was too long. Ds1 is almost 6 and VERY lazy and ds2 would love it but he's only 2.

Trying to decide whether to wear my new trainers tomorrow, which are much more comfortable than my old ones, or the old ones as I suspect its going to be very muddy and I don't want to wreck my new ones. What do you think?

Week 6 run 3 today. Got a bit of a shock because I was expecting to do 22 mins (as that is what is on my app), but Laura on the podcast told me I had to do 25! It was fine though, I even upped the pace for the last minute. So thats it now, no more walking for me, although as someone else said (I think it was Ezza?), the first few minutes are the hardest so in a way it is easier to just do one longer run.

A little bit of pain is starting to creep in now - today, I got blisters on both of my feet, sort of on the inside arches? I dont know if there is much I can do about this, apart from plasters before the run? Also, my left hip is slightly sore tonight, although we were doing some hip flexor stuff in pilates today so I am not sure if it is that? Has anyone else had hip pain from running? Knees are ok at the moment.

cinammon, I would just wear the more comfortable ones, they can always go in the washing machine if they get very muddy?

Shamelessly marking place!

I am doing Race for Life in June as a means of kick starting me into exercise. Can't afford gym and figured running cheap and flexible to fit around husband doing long hours and two young children.

I want to be someone who runs, even though I rn like Phoebe in Friends Smile

Hello Oogerbooger - well done, I am doing race for life too Smile Felt I needed something to aim for too, but it's always been something I thought I should try and do. Haven't run for over a week though, first I wussed out because of the howling Arctic gale and snow, then I got flu Sad Hoping to get out again later in the week when (hopefully) I might feel a bit better.

Good luck sarah

I am using the nhs couch to 5k podcast - might try and get out later maybe under the cover of darkness so I don't frighten small children with pendulous thighs
