Oooo what an interesting way to lace...

ezza, you will soon be running all the time anyway I wouldn't worry too much. I wear nice thick trainer socks to help me.

I like the look of that lacing! My trainers are fine, but they do tend to come lose or undone halfway through a 5k which is very annoying. I wonder if that kind of lacing would help!

Hoping to go cross country today and do a nice run through the woods. Meeting with HT first though, which I am not looking forward to, but at least I'll have the run after to destress!

Went to sportsdirect this afternoon and bought size 18 karrimor running capris the biggest in the shop. And they fit! Considering its not that long since I was buying size 28 I'm rather chuffed :). I don't seem to be losing any weight at the moment but my legs/hips are definitely slimmer.

chopstheduck someone recommended this elastic laces with a toggle, so they should stay 'tied'. I am going to get some for my DS and I, I'll let you know how they go. Hope the meeting went ok.

Well done jchocchip, that is some good toning, if you haven't lost wait, you must be more toned. I bet you'll be moving down those sizes pretty quickly. I haven't lost weight running, in fact I am a couple of pounds heavier than this time last year, but I am certainly less wobbly.

I didn't fancy a run tonight - very windy, we had snow this morning (all melted) but still cold. But I went out did 5.6k in 34mins. I just wanted to go out tonight and burn off some calories and tension. It worked.

The guy in the running shop where I bought my trainers showed me that way of kacing them, its great and def prevents them slipping etc.

I did wk 5 run 3 today, meant yo be a twenty min run, only my all stopped and I didn't notice and I ended up running for 30mins. Did 6.5km in total :) mapmyrun says I burnt 400 calories, so I have easrnt this evenings maltesers Grin

Thank you, for someone who didn't run at all just over a month ago I am actually quite enjoying it! Its a very good destresser :)

I'm about to start c25k, nervous as not a 'natural' runner- think quick feet Fred Astaire flapping arms to get away from a bumble bee. What tips to you all recommend to get started?

Report
Chopstheduck · 13/03/2013 06:54

pennygallops, that is an interesting idea, I have those on my snow boots. Do let me know how your ds gets on.

makemealarge, download the NHS pod to 5k, out your trainers on and go for it. It is very gradual and very doable. Good luck! I was never a natural runner neither, but I am getting there!

jchocchips, wahey for the running trousers! I keep looking at them longingly, but I am VERY pear shaped, so want to lose some more weight first. I have running tops, but can't quite get my fat arse in bottoms yet!

well done 5madthings - that is exactly what happened to me on week 5, though I didn't quite go that far! Hope you enjoyed those maltesers.

The meeting with the HT didn't go particularly well, as I kind of anticipated ds1 can't go on the residential trip (his is disabled, long story) but I went out after and ran 7kms Grin I really didn't feel like it, but pushed myself out the door, and really enjoyed it once I was out there. I def want to work up to 10k. It was through the woods, so not particularly fast, but a lovely cross country run. And I burned 850 cals!

I just started today! Did my first mile jogging (mostly) I live in a hilly area so walk up the really steep hills lol.

I am waiting for my legs to stop shaking before having a bubble bath! I did enjoy though! First lot of exercise in many years :)

Thanks for the lacing pic cinnamongreyhound, I had a go at that today so that the shoes didn't slip but I had lots of room at the toes and around the ankles. Result: no rubbing at all on my warm up walk and only a little rubbing on my right foot on the cool down. The left foot's now perfect but I'll have another go at the right foot lacing to see if I can get it more comfy.

So that's W6R3 done! I've taken to running along the route of the local park run in the hope I won't be so scared of going along to join in. Still a bit scared though! Up to now I've just been starting with my warm up walk from where I park the car (about 2 mins away from the start of the course) and just trying to get as far as I could until the halfway point of my playlist and then turning around and coming back again.

I found the actual start/finish line today. How I missed it before I don't know because it's painted on the floor, so I'm of thinking of doing W7R1 along the route of the park run on Friday and starting the running bit at the start line to see how far around the course I can get with the 25 minute run and how long it takes me to get back to the start line again. If the result isn't too humiliating I might have a go at the park run on Saturday.

Oooh! Well done Julezboo! When I first started 200 metres was my limit before I had to stop and walk for a bit so I'm impressed you managed a mile!

I am hoping it kick starts my DH into doing exercise. I am only slight (10 stone) but very unfit. but DH is overweight and has BP issues, hopefully if he sees me enjoying it he may give it a go!

my legs are still shaking!

Can I join? I decided to start Cto5K on Monday on a real spur of the moment thing - have been on a bit of a fitness blitz since Jan with the Chiefs on MN but am still so shockingly overweight and just thought I would try it. Was a bit grim in the snow but wanted to just try it before I changed my mind. Wasn't quite as bad as I expected, although have v large boobs (38HH) so have to wear two bras Blush. Will try the second run this afternoon - although DD1 off school today so she'll have to come too!

Welcome makeminealarge! I would say just take it slowly, trust in the plan and yourself! I had never run before in my life until Jan 2012 and I know regularly run 15-18 miles a WEEK!

Well Done for starting Julezboo that's the hardest part :)

Glad the lacing helped, the bloke in the running shop definitely knew his stuff and I love my new shoes.

Welcome Tabbykat, it's a great plan for everyone you'll be glad you started. Glad you are here I can ask what the Chiefs are? I have lurked a bit on that thread but wasn't sure what it was all about as everyone seems to be doing different things!

It sounds like maybe you have overdone it a bit, julz, maybe you need to build up a bit more gradually? I'd have plenty of water, and something like a banana. It might be worth doing some gentle stretches too.

Thanks guys - just got back from 2nd run and it was fine - feel great for having done it. DD1 was with me, so not as quick as I would have liked but at least I did it - and she did v well too, totally put me to shame!

Cinnamon the Chiefs are a bunch of MNers on a weight loss drive - all different shapes and sizes. Some quite slim already but most of us with quite a chunk to lose. Some fasting, some exercising, a real mixture. Quite a few of us log on MFP if you want a nosy round that - I'm DarklyDreamingOfDamon if anyone wants a look. We've been at it since January and some of us have had some of us have had some really good losses.....

I've just managed to squeeze wk 1 run 2 in. Legs hadn't quite recovered from run 1 yet, but hey-ho...
Got myself a pair of New Balance shoes last night, felt much better than running in normal trainers.

good luck fellow starters! Smile

I need to get out today. Bad weather and extreme fatigue have stopped me the past few days, but as Ezzza has now officially overtaken me I have no choice.
