LET'S FUCKING DO IT....!

Ange what is deadline? I remember several friends having to get lump sum of money in fairly early on. Friend's DS raised money for trip to Africa (Uganda I think) by selling quiz sheets, cleaning cars, dog walking etc etc. I could email you a quiz sheet if you want. (people like to buy these to do over Christmas and New Year I did one at DS2's school last year and went down v well)

Another friend organised a quiz night, and wrote to local shops for prizes. Was big well known charity and because of that she got some good prizes.

Bake cakes to sell to neighbours (get them interested by delivering freee samples with accompanying price list).

Think importaant thing is to spread the word. Many peolpe are imrpessed by someone running a marathon, and want to sponsor you. When I did it in 2007 I was even sponsored in 2007 by someone I had never met - a friend of my mums. DH was sponsored £1 a mile by my colleague and her partner, and at that stage he had not met either of them.

Because so many poeple sponsored me I thought it was very important to keep a note of everyone and let them know how I got on.

sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:46

fanny what I was on about not sure it makes much sense out of context of programme

I just love choirs, would love to join a huge one to hide my voice in Blush

sfxmum · 25/11/2011 14:47

and ange spread the word and post fund-raising page everywhere, it will happen

ibbydibby · 25/11/2011 14:48

Badger congratulations! I think best to wait....I think at running club you will inevitably push yourself, and this is perhaps the one time when you should listen to your body saying it can't go on...

Sorry about your brother, was he badly hurt?

AngeChica · 25/11/2011 14:54

I need to raise 2 and a half grand, 2 of it by end of jan to keep my place... it's very sweet of you to offer, I already have a justgiving page but I'll put my link up in the new year - I haven't been hassling people too much so far as I did the Great North Swim in June and got loads of people to sponsor me for that as well. Have been selling cards and calendars at craft markets, fairs etc, which takes time out of our weekend as I work 4 days a week as well. But am deffo packing all that in now to concentrate on the training. Off to collect DS in my running hat ... the other mams will be looking smart for the school run no doubt!

rhetorician · 25/11/2011 14:54

badger remind us me is this DC3? and is there a specific reason for cvs (sorry if being stupid, can't recall)? We had one with dd2 due to bad downs odds - it was pretty horrible at the time, but certainly helpful

MoshiMoshi · 25/11/2011 14:57

OK, have just requested KT befriend me on FB. If anybody by the initials KT is on here and has a random friend request from WR (nee WE), then tis me! Still not convinced I have caught you all (evil cackle - mwoaaaahahahahahahahahha!) Grin

MoshiMoshi · 25/11/2011 14:59

Just spotted on reading back (said in hushed tone), CONGRATULATIONS, badger! Woop woop!

monkeyLFDTwench · 25/11/2011 15:01

badger that's wonderful news! Have you had cvs before? I had it with ds3 - nervewracking but the results were quick.

ange I raised a grand running the marathon, people were generous. I offered to do babysitting too, but no one asked me Hmm. Much easier to fundraise for London, because I did another marathon quite a few people asked how far it was and expressed surprise that it was the same distance as the VLM!

fanny Edinburgh - pretty flat I think though.

MoshiMoshi · 25/11/2011 15:01

Agree there is no point in joining a club which will aim to raise your fitness levels, when you are at a point when you should look to maintain your fitness levels at most. Unless you fancy some company. That is the only time I can see you doing it. And you would have to join the slowest group which might be frustrating?

MoshiMoshi · 25/11/2011 15:01

ange - stick your website on here, lovey. And anywhere else you can on MN!

Wheelybug · 25/11/2011 15:02

A real quickie as need to do school run followed by the local turning on of the Christmas lights at which dd1s school choir is singing at. The first of many performances this season Hmm

But, thank you thank you lovely fanny the headband has arrived safe and sound. Tis. Fab and I look forward to trying it out tomorrow on a run along the seafront at
My parents. Still happy to pay for it !

Congrats badger - lovely lovely news

Wheelybug · 25/11/2011 15:03

And yes ange let us know re fundraising

ibbydibby · 25/11/2011 15:06

monkey people are funny about the concept of the distance of a marathon. The night before I did London someone rang me to wish me good luck, and followed it up by asking if I was doing "the 5k one or the 10k"...!!

badger just seen your news, Congratulations Smile This is a very fertile thread.......

rhet you could also add to your stats about runners that they often have Narc months Hmm Although I don't have red hair, red haired kids or daughters Grin

fanny my headband arrived, and it is actually very stylish me thinks. I love it. Glad you went for S/M as it is not as snug as it could be, M/L would have been a snood on me! Perhaps I have a head like a pea on a drum?

Lots of racers this weekend I see, I love a jam packed weekend of races.

Weather here today is miserable. Peeing it down all day. My mate in Bradford said they have had snow all afternoon.

I bought those tred things moshi linked to today for me and dh to wear iover trainers to ais running on ice/snow.

rhet/fanny can you tell me about Heart rate monitors? How should you use one and how do they benefit training?

Love this thread.

stickyLFDTfingers · 25/11/2011 16:04

badger congratulations. Know exactly what you mean, we had to keep everything quiet til we got the all clear (heart in our case being the prob). We will be quiet and hope.

moshi you found me!

ange re calendars: I normally send my older relatives abroad calendars for Christmas. They could be your calendars this year, if you still have any in stock?

monkeyLFDTwench · 25/11/2011 16:05

badger you would have my unconditional support no matter what decision you took, but yes you're right to be wary. We were offered a termination in relation to ds1, and I have never in my life felt so alone with that decision. No one has the right to judge, and I would just as equally have supported someone in my situation who made a different decision. Have a big hug and let's hope the next few weeks flies by and you can enjoy your pregnancy Smile.

stickyLFDTfingers · 25/11/2011 16:26

just looking through the "motto" thread - Quenelle has put on "just fucking do it" Grin. I like "no guts no glory" too - think I'll be using that on the next race.

On that note - best of luck the racers! I make it:

ibbydibby, RunningAllDay, Squix, Jezabelle and Sonic - is that right? I'm waving the pom poms and doing the high kicks!

Now, must go and make cauliflower cheese (DD1's fave). Massive caulis for 79p on the market this morning. I think I get the prize for the most rock'n'roll life...

futurity · 25/11/2011 16:59

(whispers) - Congrats Badger x

rhetorician · 25/11/2011 17:13

badger of course - I should have remembered that about DH - I'm sorry. Well, people on the ante-natal testing thread were great - i couldn't have got through that week without them. But there was the occasional rogue person who thought it ok to wade in with their views (always negative). Anyone would have my unconditional support too - it was a bit strange thinking about it here where termination is such a contentious issue (and illegal to boot) - we weren't sure if we could have told DP's mother for example, and I was surprised by how many of my friends were surprised that we would even consider termination. But fingers crossed that all is well.

I have to cook DD's dinner now, but will be back re heart rate monitors later...bet you all can't wait, eh?

runnerstipple · 25/11/2011 18:00

What a lot to catch up on, I've skimmed through the beginning and the last few pages so sorry if I've missed something really important

Congratulations to Peach and family on baby Kate's arrival. Hope she sorts out the feeding/day/night issue soon. All my boys wanted to feed all night long and sleep all day but they eventually got their heads rounds the being awake when its daylight lark.

Fanny, seasonal curtains. I love it. Like so many of your posts that one made me laugh out loud. I think I secretly aspire to be you, but I am at heart a slattern lick and a promise sort of housework person. My excuse is that I live in an old house and it needs the cobwebs to hold it together.

Definitely need to embrace your hills are my friend ethos though. I tried my first hill session last week, although it was an East Anglian hill, so probably pretty flat. It nearly killed me. Six reps of sprint up and walk down. I managed to keep almost the same time for each up section which I was pleased with, but couldn't have done it another time for love nor money.

I've been taking it really easy with the running recently as my hip is still sore (saw the GP who told me it may take a year to get better and to 'lay off the marathons'. I didn't point out that the longest distance I have done, and am planning to do is HM, for fear she's tell me not to do that too. Have been feeling really down about it and decided yesterday after a 3 miler that any soreness is worth the trade off in improved state of mind that comes with running. Fuck injury I say.

Rhet I tick 3,4 and 5 on your scientific poll. All boys and no gingers in this house.

Aargh, have to go and collect DS2, am already late trying to catch up with you all. MN has a lot to answer for.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 25/11/2011 18:11

Badger, congratulations, how lovely!!! And good luck for the cvs. I think running club is too much while pregnant, if you can just keep running that's good enough!

Lol at Rhet's DP's leaking roof!

monkeyLFDTwench · 25/11/2011 18:15

runners same hill issue for me. But am out tomorrow for a long run with a friend, and she's promised me hills. Am quaking in my boots as the last time we went out for 7 she nearly bloody killed me. She's much faster than me (did GNR in 1.56) and like a mountain goat.

I only tick 3 and 4 of rhet's list. Much as I laugh at fanny and her ironing I must confess to being horribly anal fastidious about housework. Got a massive telling off from the HV just after I had ds2 because she felt the house was too clean and tidy Hmm. Just don't tell anyone else, right? Smile

monkeyLFDTwench · 25/11/2011 18:17

It has of course occurred to me that I only tick 3 and 4 of the list because I'm a shit runner - ha! So to improve vastly all I need to do is produce a ginger girl, and stop doing the housework!
