sfxmum · 22/11/2011 22:02

and congratulations for being almost in, you must have passion too

Bumply · 22/11/2011 22:03

I did a mini-run of 2.5k yesterday and my leg/hip seemed ok. In fact I had more problem with my right knee, but I'm used to dodgy knees which probably have more to do with the weather (and my age and weight) than potential injury.

Can't quite decide if it's been niggly since then, but I'll go out again on Thursday and see how that goes for a normal 5k-ish run.

I was due to do my normal gym session at lunchtime, but a conf call overran and I had to miss out. Grr. I'll do it tomorrow instead.

sfxmum · 22/11/2011 22:03

wheely yes Old Deer Park, funnily enough it is another 3 miles from the edge of that park to my place going along the river

rhetorician · 22/11/2011 22:04

running how exciting! colleague of mine did this (after an academic career in the humanities) - she had a 2 year old when she started. Another friend did it after working in merchant banking - had 2 children during the training...

bonkers glad that you got it working ok - it's a pain to upload, irrespective of the model, did you get elevation and all that fancy stuff? so cool

the pic of me toiling trotting up the steps by the waterfall I look the image of my mother

Redruth, eh? one of my exes was from Camborne - we used to go to the county championships at Twickenham and sing 'and shall trelawny live? etc' amongst the crowds of giant pasties. Happy days.

That'd be a hilly route I'd say

fannybanjo · 22/11/2011 22:09

All you academic studious folk make me very jealous. I am desperate to do Sports Science degree but funds won't permit it. Sad. Never mind, I'll regale you lot with my expertise... Wink

Wheely and DrNo I'll pm you back from computer tomorrow...

peach yep, you're right. Sticky will no doubt away the argument for me doing it though.

No running for me yet. However running club tomorrow! I'm very nervous and may cop out yet.

Oh talking of looking like mothers - My dad facetimed me on iPhone yesterday and in my exhausted state on answering it, he truly thought he'd rang my mum. She's 61. I'm 37 and obviously fucked.

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 22/11/2011 22:12

Actually I'm 36. Blush. It's getting late innit?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 22/11/2011 22:18

fanny if that is what you want look around and find a good place to do it, see it as an investment, or maybe do shorter diplomas to get you on your way

a friend recently became a fully qualified personal trainer after a prestigious career in finance, she is 42 never too late

RunningAllDay · 22/11/2011 22:21

Thanks sfx - and good luck with yours! I take it you already work in that field?

rhet - apparently it is flat with one serious hill which you do at Mile 3 and Mile 22. Find it quite hard to believe, esp as it goes along the North Cornish coast.

Turning into your mother is inevitable. And DH/DP turning into PIL is also inevitable. Just try to imagine them married and that is your life 30 years from now Grin In my case it is not pretty...

stickyLFDTfingers · 22/11/2011 22:24

hmm, yes rhet, a job would drive a hole through the marathon plans. I actually take it as a sign that there must be a deity that as soon as I decide, yes, I am doing a marathon, suddenly a job skips onto the horizon. Hmm But, in the spirit of my new-found faith, I must continue to train for said marathon in order for the job prospect to remain rosy. So I won't throw away my pretty schedule just yet :) wheely I am an (evil) financial services lawyer.

fanny I'm not going to argue that the GNR is the be-all and end-all (unless you are a member of the Dual Carriage Way Appreciation Society). It's the biggest, fantastic atmosphere, I think everyone should do it once... but you have! It is so close to me it would be stupid not to do it. I want you to do it next year cos I think it would be cool to meet up. The £88 is for 3 years, but even so. This one's my last guaranteed place, and I'm not even sure will I "renew". There are other HMs (tho I do get tearful every time they play Local Hero Grin)

moshi your poor anke/cankle :( I hope the ice takes it back down again quickly.

stickyLFDTfingers · 22/11/2011 22:25

Ha, and I should be so lucky to turn into my Mother. I'm the spit of my grandmother...Shock

peachLFDTsmuggler · 22/11/2011 22:28

fanny, you should train to be a personal trainer yes!!!! You'd be awesome and people would pay, just for the banter!!!

rhetorician · 22/11/2011 22:33

I think you should too, fanny - the world's first x-rated personal trainer...brilliant. Seriously, though, you have a really positive attitude and I bet you're an even better motivator in real than you are on here.

sticky yes, I know exactly what you mean - illogical, but feels anything but

rhetorician · 22/11/2011 22:34

in real life, that should read

Wheelybug · 22/11/2011 22:36

Don't worry sticky I was an insolvency accountant and am married to a corporate lawyer so pretty unpopular here Wink. Good luck with it all !

MoshiMoshi · 22/11/2011 22:39

Ooh, exciting to hear about further studies and jobs abounding. I was toying with the idea of sitting the Californian Bar exam out in San Fran. Just so I had it. But DH is currently revising for his US financial services exams and I am being reminded how hideous revision is. Eugh.

running - I always wished I had done medicine. Much more interesting than law and soooooooo cool to be able to nosey into people's habits and make-ups. Except possibly slightly depressing as well to confront our mortality on a daily basis. Both my Inlaws are Drs and are always saying they are dreading the signs of a sudden demise coming on.

sfxmum · 22/11/2011 22:51

I seem to know a lot of accountants and lawyers these days Hmm how did that happen?
it used to be mostly Humanities and Health

people should not worry about unpopular jobs (except the chancellor)
all necessary, it is more about ethical practice I think

sfxmum · 22/11/2011 22:53

BTW anyone in insurance? I was talking to a few last week and they closely resembled estate agents, must tell that to BIL he is a claims adjuster, now that is popular Grin

Wheelybug · 22/11/2011 23:00

Sfx, I really consider myself mire humanities. Archaeology degree and MA in heritage management. I fell into accountancy by mistake. BIG mistake.

stickyLFDTfingers · 22/11/2011 23:05

Thanks wheely Grin

I would not be cut out for medicine. They have to learn so much - boyfriend before DP was a medic, and I was always really glad I had nice stories to learn (other people call them cases!) whereas all those drugs and body parts Confused. Brains the size of planets!

I agree sfx, and am also hoping that if I got this job I'd be doing more helpful things (advising small businesses etc) that in my last jobs. One needs to sleep at night!

Speedwork tomorrow - would be great to bring fanny along with to yell at me like a power-crazed NCO Wink. Realised that DP will be away the next two Saturdays so no park runs for me. So the pressure's on to show significant improvement the next time I'm down...

backwardLFDTpossom · 22/11/2011 23:05

Hill training at running club tonight. Ooft.

stickyLFDTfingers · 22/11/2011 23:07

I like mire humanities. Is that where you're an archaeologist who's not good at digging, so needs to seek out the damp and squiggly areas? Tho jeez, wheely you really should have found yourself something a bit more interesting after your very interesting sounding academic career!

stickyLFDTfingers · 22/11/2011 23:08

squiggly = squidgy. I'm not sure why the mac thinks the former is a word while the latter isn't. Confused

Wheelybug · 22/11/2011 23:29

Lol mire/ more. You're right on the career though - when I get back to it I shall go to something less boring instead....

Wheelybug · 22/11/2011 23:31

Mind you, the advising small businesses is something I was always interested in. I worked for one of the big firms and sometimes got to work with smaller companies but rarely.
