LET'S FUCKING DO IT....!

DebiTheScot · 21/11/2011 16:36

I think if it is wear and tear though that they are right and it isn't claimable. To be fair to the women on the phone she was very strongly implying that I could make up a date that the damage happened as long as it was a windy day! She even told me what website they use to check! Problem is we haven't had any windy days for a long time.

I've got a headband that covers my ears for the deepest, coldest winter days. I can't run in a hat either. I get so hot, I very rarely wear more than one layer.

monkeyLFDTwench · 21/11/2011 16:40

Headband here too. I have a cheap one from Sports Direct that does the job. Bright pink though, I look like something out of a glam rock band.

Wheelybug · 21/11/2011 16:42

Thanks re headband. I get v hot too so maybe a wide one wouldn't be wise. Am just perusing the sweaty Betty catalogue
And they have thin non slip ones. It's just to keep it off my face. Otherwise I'll have to grow it long enough to put it in a pony tail. Dd1 is having to grow hers long again as we're nagged by ballet teacher to get it up and her class teacher and I can't bear the hassle !!

DrNortherner · 21/11/2011 16:43

I want a headband I do have a Buff that I wear as a headband but it is very tight and my head feels like it might explode. Problem is I have a fringe and headbands were not designed for fringed folk.

Wheelybug · 21/11/2011 16:44

Oh and I think I'm going to order shred too. I was telling DH about it and it might be a good thing for him to try and fit in as it's only 20 mins. I have found my weights and they are only 1kg each so might need some more of those too

Wheelybug · 21/11/2011 16:46

Drno - if you had a wide one couldn't you sweep the fringe back under it ? Or would that be uncomfy ? And you'd have to keep it on until you were able to shower or else it would probably all stick up Grin

stickyLFDTfingers · 21/11/2011 16:52

yep, drno would look like Rick Astley!

DebiTheScot · 21/11/2011 16:55

oh I've got a buff too, I'd forgotten about that. I got it free.

wheely I find shred is more like 30 mins by the time you've got it going and got warmed up. 1kg would be a good starting point.

Forgot to say earlier, my know it all dbro amused me the other day when he was sat on the sofa watching me do Shred and was criticising some of Natalie's technique! Like he's a fitness expert Hmm

sfxmum · 21/11/2011 17:00

debi ouch, hope if not possible to get something out of the insurance you end up getting a better deal.

hair I hold mine in a pony tail and use grips for assorted shorter bits, I wear a hat in winter but only to start off, same with gloves, then it is sweatrama
my weights are 1K only, must order heavier as well as new shoes mine have a hole now.
question are there a any good dvd's out there for stretching? I use Pilates when I can but I always feel like I don't stretch properly, I tend to rush through it and get all stiff the following day

sfxmum · 21/11/2011 17:00

nice pic fanny you look joyful

monkeyLFDTwench · 21/11/2011 17:54

I have really curly hair nearly all one length, I need a Brazilian blowdry to keep it tamed straight or I look like Crystal Tipps. A fringe would be a really really bad idea for me.

Wonder what happened to pRick Astley, do you remember they used to call him the white Barry White?

Debi actually you know I was watching Natalie the other day and I don't think she does the squats as low as Anita does. What you got to say to that then buddy Jillian?!

RunningAllDay · 21/11/2011 19:59

As I have said now multiple times, I can't keep up. But I am reading and enjoying.

I just have a quick question regarding HR training - mainly for rhet I think - you mentioned a HR book a while ago, and after half an hour on Amazon, am no closer to choosing one. Is their one you would recommend (or anyone else for that matter?)

Nothing wrong with bunches wheely! Today I sported the drowned rat look - 9 miles in the POURING rain. And it was weirdly fun.

Just been looking on the Runners World discussion forum... its so.... male, isn't it?

peachLFDTsmuggler · 21/11/2011 20:00

I love that photoFanny

Ok, here is my race birth report in full!
After a couple of days of feeling reaaaaly tired and with a sore back, I had a swep on Friday (due date!) at 12.30. The midwife said I was fairly favourable to one but not very and booked me on for another on Sunday and Friday if nothing happened. Got back from taking DD to swimming lesson on Friday afternoon and crawled into bed. Woke at just after 6pm with unmistakable feeling of waters going all over bed. (Thanks god for Pampers bed mats!). Then proceeded to try to get to bathroom but got stranded on bedroom floor having got a towel between my legs (nice) and having left puddles all over the place. Had phone so called DP downstairs and told him. He came up and started scrubbing the carpets Hmm while DD played downstairs. Was then stranded for ages as every time I moved another whoosh would come. Was also very excited so brain going all over the shop. Finally got myself off floor about 7 and into shower (leaving more puddles). Stayed there till I thought there was no more coming out and got dried and back to bedroom, 2 mahoosive maternity pads in place. Sat downstairs with DD on towel, and another bedmat just in case. Ordered DP a curry and me a bhaji, as didn't want to eat too much and then my sister arrived about 9.40 (hurrah, the cavalry). Felt some period like pains about 9.30/10 and DD went off to bed rather late at 10.30. Then started to hurt a bit so strapped on TENS. About 11, was thinking well this is starting to feel morelike contractions and coming every couple of mins, so called midwife at 11.10 and had trouble talking to her on phone. She said come to the hospital and I'll meet you there. Got taxi. Luckily we are only 10 mins from hospital and so only had 4 or 5 contractions in car (ouch ouch ouch). Got to hospital at 11.50 and struggled up to delivery suite. Midwife met us there and i sort of collapsed into her arms. She said do you feel pressure, I said I think so and we got along to room, with 2 stops for contractions. In the room I said, tearfully "Can I have some gas and air?" and she sorted that and I felt like I could cope then. She took off my boots and trousers and said do you wantto get on the bed. Got on bed on all fours and I said "I feel like need a poo", she said "I think tha's the baby coming" so I leaned forward on the table and pushed. Kate's head came out and then I could feel it going back in and I asked the midwife if that was the case, she said yes so I pushed on next contraction and her head came out. Little breather for gas and air then felt next contraction and remembered I was suposed to be pushing and the rest of her came out. Was absolutely amazing as I sooo wanted to feel the baby being born this time, last time having had spinal block, episiotemy, and forcepts. It was so calm just being there with DP and feeding baby, while midwife wrote up the notes, it was brilliant. Delivery suite was really quiet too, and only after a while I heard some poor woman shouting the place down. Saw placenta this time too, and someone came to take away the cord as we were donating the blood. Midwife asked if we wanted a bed on the ward or to go home, I said home please! Only had a graze so no stitches (hurrah) and felt totally fine having a shower and a wee and then we trotted off home at 4 o'clock.

Am so happy every time I think about the birth, as has a lot of ishoos regarding dissapointment etc after last time. I was very very lucky to have such a positive experience.

Last couple of days have been just lovely. Milk has come in, though Kate not too interested as too busy sleeping. Keep having to strip her off to get herto feed. Getting practically no sleep at night, but hey, it's not forever and can nap during day as DSIS here. MIL coming tomorrow so that will be nice too.

Might take pram out for a spin on Thursday depending on weather.

As I said before great having no stiches, but arse is a mess of piles! ha ha. Not too bad today but were a bit fruity last night (ouch!). Will give them a couple of days to settle down and then might get some cream. Perhaps I should send monkey's DH out for that!! Wink

Anyway, if you're still awake, thank you all so much for all the wise words, support and encouragement through this pregnancy, it's been brilliant off-loading to you all!!! And for those who were around last xmas, when I had the miscarriage, thanks too. It was so good to have a place to talk to people who understood. Right. Am off before I start blubbing and covering you all in snot and tears. xxx

stickyLFDTfingers · 21/11/2011 20:09

ah peach that was lovely. I didn't even know about the miscarriage. So glad this year has ended so well for you, little Kate sounds like a poppet.

fannybanjo · 21/11/2011 20:10

Quicky as kids arsing about. Headband from Aldi, got one last year and one the other day. £2.99. If anyone wants one, let me know, I'll go and get a few and post them out, you can paypal me. They had loads on Saturday. DrNo Kirby grip your fringe back. I need them as my ears get very cold and they keep
earphones in whilst racing.

DrNo JUST for you, I've taken a photo of my hair, I'll put it on for you later... Grin. It's not a great pic lighting wise but it is more blonde. Had to laugh at Nell comparison, in my dreams but thank you, great compliment.

stickyLFDTfingers · 21/11/2011 20:13

monkey not a word against our Nat, now. She's my "best girl" doncha know.

running agreed about RW. I only dip into it now and then for specific advice (and then come back on here to check with the wise ones if it's true!).

Wheelybug · 21/11/2011 20:21

Aw peach. Am sniffing. Lovely story

monkeyLFDTwench · 21/11/2011 20:25

Aw, what a lovely report peach - so glad it all went well. I love it when a plan comes together! Ouch on the Nobbys though, get thee some Anusol (which for years I assumed was pronounced Anus-Hole - bit of an unsympathetic name, I thought .....).

Just shredded with DH. Honestly, he cracks me up - he does it in the most inappropriate clothing. Yesterday he was wearing a thermal vest Hmm. Today he decided to strip off his jogging bottoms half way through, forgetting he was wearing boxers. Let me tell you ladies, the boys were flying out of the barracks! I got the giggles during the star jumps and had to stop! Grin

futurity · 21/11/2011 20:26

peach what a lovely race ...I mean birth report Smile ...sounds like the perfect birth story and pleased you got to go home so soon afterwards. Look after yourself and make the most of any help you get.

rhetorician · 21/11/2011 20:26

great race birth report, peach - definitely a PB in anyone's terms! DP will be hoping for similar.

Am a bit Confused because one of the ladies at DD's nursery called me soft - we were leaving and DD was messing around with putting some toys away. I feel a bit chastised/undermined even though I know it wasn't meant as a criticism.

running it's called Heart Rate Monitor Training for the Compleat Idiot by John L. Parker - there's not much to it beyond calculating the zones and a few plans. YOu can get it pretty cheap.

On which subject - did 6.5 km this morning a full 30 seconds faster at the same heart rate than a couple of weeks ago. I feel great.

Wheelybug · 21/11/2011 20:29

Sorry posted early there in my sniffing. Glad you got the birth you wanted and were able to get over issues of first birth.
As I said before its truly amazing when births happen as they 'should' (although equally amazing we have the skills and equipment to successfully birth healthy babies when things don't go according to plan !)

running - nothing wrong with bunches on you, they make me look a twat

fanny yes please on headbsnd, no aldi near here so if its easy that would be great but don't worry if a hassle.

bonkersLFDT20 · 21/11/2011 20:32

Hello, The only story I have read from the w/e is Peach's birth one. See, I have my priorities right. I will read the rest when I am at work tomorrow have more time.

Anyway, well done Peach. Your birth story sounds, well, peachy really. I'm so glad you had a much more positive experience than last time. The waters breaking at home part sounds just like the sort of thing we all hear about and hope won't happen to us, though!

I am Shock at you getting fruity so soon though!

How's your pelvic floor?! What does DD think about Kate?

It's really early days with BF and each one can be different so try not to get in a funk about her sleeping alot at the moment (you know all this I'm sure but I just can't help myself!).

I am sorry about your m/c last Xmas.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 21/11/2011 20:34

Peach that sounds so nice. You have given me a bit of hope as my only labour was a 3 day nightmare ending in an EMCS, so I always worry slightly that when we get around to DC2 similar things will happen. I am sorry to hear about the mc, lovely that it has all had a happy ending now.

Debi, IME insurers just want to get out paying claims. If you want them to pay, tell them what they need to know and keep on at them until they agree to pay.

Re friendship groups - I've found over time that friendships wax and wane. When I first left Uni, I felt really hurt that some people didn't bother to keep in touch. But it's just the situation you are in at the time, as you go through different stages you have different things in common. True friends are ones you can meet up with after years and it's like no time has passed at all.

I was going to ask you all for some advice on products here, running and not running related:

  1. Garmins ... Yes I know it's all been done to death recently. But I am thinking about getting one for DP at Xmas. He wants one with a combined heart rate monitor. I am looking at the forerunner 305 on Amazon. Any views? Also, (silly question maybe) but do they work on other forms of exercise i.e. cycling? Swimming even - are they waterproof? I'm a bit limited in funds, only up to £150.
  1. Scooters. Thinking of getting one for DS for Xmas. He is only 22 months, but is big for his age and loves scooters (tries to nick them in the park all the time), so I think it's something he can mess about with and grow into. You all seem to have older kids than me, so any suggestions for models that might suit a littler person. one that folds up would be fab also
WishIwasCherryMenlove · 21/11/2011 20:36

monkey boys flying out the barracks - love it! After a crappy day, you've made me snort out loud with laughter.
