New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 08/10/2011 09:25

We need a thread dream analyst!

Wheelybug · 08/10/2011 09:29

I got myself out of bed - it was either that or have a 2year old sit on my head shouting wake up. 5.5 miles done with my water leaking all over me until I chucked it in the bin.

Now off to dd1s swimming lesson. Do you remember pre kids restful wweekends ? I'm sure they were less fun .....

Hope you feel better futurity

orangehead · 08/10/2011 10:58

Thanks badger. I also need to sip water no matter what distance. How sweet of the little girl.
Hope you feeling better futurity
Enjoy the baby shopping Rhet
Good luck to all the weekend racers.

orangehead · 08/10/2011 11:00

Wheely I am such a zombie in the mornings I think I could still sleep with two year old on m head

Themasterandmargaritas · 08/10/2011 11:26

There are so many thread babies that for a moment wheely I thought you had written that your waters had broken whilst doing 5 miles and I was about to be v impressed Grin

Futurity sorry about the cold, how annoying. And science, what a bummer. Sad

Dr no awesome dream. I love the fact that it was rhet breaking all the rules, somehow I would have imagined fanny in that role too!

I've done run, drawing with ds2, footie match, riding pickup and am now having a few moments to myself in the hairdressers. life must have been very boring pre-kids. Grin

DebiTheScot · 08/10/2011 11:55

It's just taken me 3 stints to catch up with you all!
Can't remember who said what so I might get you all muddled up. DrNo your dream sounds hilarious. I had a teaching dream last night where I was being observed teaching a naughty class for the first time. The class were a mix of made up people, real pupils & real life friends. All I did was sort out where they all sat but I was told I was brilliant. Grin

M&M my ds1 is still in nappies at night and we check & wipe if needed after a poo. He's 5 1/2.

fanny I've done it too when ds1 is being horrid. Today will be a long day as we went to a barn dance last night & so the boys were awake until we left at 10.30pm (they fell asleep in car)

Volunteered at Parkrun this morning since I couldn't run it. Shins still sore and have done no exercise this week Sad

Oh and I'm a sweaty red faced runner. No spitting tho.

ibbydibby · 08/10/2011 12:31

Good luck futurity, june, cherry, pink and runningallday - looking like tomorrow will be a bit cooler than last w/e.

Futurity bummer about the cold. Hopefully if you do nothing/as little as possible today, you will feel brighter tomorrow. Maybe the adrenaline/excitement will help. I have several friends running Peterborough HM tomorrow, so much talk and excitement about it when I went to spectate at parkrun today (still injured, but DS1 wanted to run).

DS1 was in pull-ups at night until he was about 7. Was a long haul, but seems like ages ago now. Was unable to wipe himself after pooing until 5 ish. I tried not to get too stressed by then, as I found the whole potty training thing a complete nightmare with DS1, made myself very miserable, and ended up quite ill with bronchitis (also other things going on, but was a very low time for me). DS2 a doddle in comparison. Looking back all that seemed to occupy a huge amount of my life, but just seems so long ago now and not something I think about that much. Really for you, Rhet and others struggling with this.

Science sorry about your injury. Can you find something to do to temporarily replace the running?

DrNo, could DS wear your Garmin? Or could you run with him and monitor his pace? I think it comes with experience...DS1 did his first parkrun in 36.16, but last week ran his 8th in 28.54. I think most children have a tendency to shoot off, can you talk him through your average paces for different distances? Hope he is ok.

Moshi shame that you will not be doing Norwich, was hoping we would be able to meet up. DH has now entered, we are hoping that a friend will take both DS1 & 2 in the lead car (DS1 went with him last year).

Fanny have had one or 2 major rants at DS1 & 2 in my time. Felt very guilty over recent one with DS2, it was in the morning before school, so was concerned we had parted on not good terms. I apologised to him when he came out of school, and explained why I had been angry/upset (can't remember what it was about now!) and to my surprise he apologised as well!

Hoping to go for a little experimental jog tomorrow to see how my leg is.

squix · 08/10/2011 14:01

First of all - good luck to this weekends runners - i think it's awesome October Smile not just super Sunday.

I had a great run today (was very wet and a bit chilly) - I needed a confidence boost after being a wee bit disappointed with last Sunday's race. 10 miles in 99 minutes - it was meant to be a LSR but I felt really good, started by alternating each mile - mile warm up, mile effort .

Average paces for each mile were

Lap 1 10:45
Lap 2 9.13
Lap 3 10.30
Lap 4 8.56
Lap 5 10.26
Lap 6 10.02
Lap 7 9.23
Lap 8 10.47
Lap 9. 10.02
Lap 10. 8.50
Lap 11 (0.01 miles) 8.37

Overall average 9.53 min per mile. Which is the fastest I've done a long run outside of a race. I know it's not as fast as some of you run - but I was very chuffed with myself Grin

futurity · 08/10/2011 14:14

That's great squix ! Really interesting to see how alternating miles can work well.

I'm spending the day inside and wrapped up. I know it's just a cold but it is blinking annoying the day before my half! Oh well...can't do anything more about it..will see what tomorrow brings (scraps idea of PB!) ...always got Cambridge half to look forward to for that PB if necessary!

rhetorician · 08/10/2011 14:20

loads going on: alas, I think the only place I might break the rules is in someone else's dream! how sad is that?

squix that's a great piece of running, very disciplined. I have realised that I am only 271km off my 2000km target for 2011, which is about 6 weeks' running. I wonder whether I will see a benefit once I slack off reduce my mileage a bit? the period after dd2 is born I'm planning to use to focus on shorter, quality runs, as in all conscience I think 4 outings a week will be all that I can manage. So an easy, an interval run, a hill session at easy pace and a long(ish) run - probably about 8 miles. It will be interesting to compare this with my year long mileage building at mostly slow paces.

squix also meant to sympathise about early menopause news - this happened to my work colleague and running buddy - she has no children, but has worked really hard to make her peace with it. She's very involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews (and she is one of 8, so there's a fair few of them) as well as being my most supportive work colleague (picks up stuff for me etc). But hard if you were hoping for another. I must be headed there too - but as yet no sign really (I am grumpier than I was, but I think that's having a toddler :o), other than the fact that my skin is a bit shit (I put this down to running sweat, lol).

ok, I think I am not going to get out for a run today, dp has worn herself out with a little light retail therapy, so dd and I will wash the wheelybin car. I really fancy 4 miles or so

peachsmuggler · 08/10/2011 15:00

Sorry, meant to say miles back, Science, that sucks about the stress fracture, I am sorry. How long you on the bench for?

Wheely, nice run does sound preferable to 2 year old on head Wink

squix, sorry to hear about early menopause, hope you are ok with it. Guess it may just take time to get your head round it. Those splits are great! Did you use a garmin to pace, or do it by instinct and then get the garmin info? Am very impressed that your last mile was your
fastest. Bodes very well for racing!

Rhet, now come on. You did flip the bird to a cop the other day, so you are officially the thread rebel! What did you get at the shops? I went to a second hand baby stuff sale this morning, on the off chance they might have a cheap buggy board. Was supposed to start at 11 but you could go in and browse from 10.30 if pregnant. Got there at 10.45 and they'd already let everyone in so was painfully busy and hard to get around. DD then whinged her way around until I bought her some Peppa Pig figures. I got a changing mat for £2. Exciting, huh?

God am hungry. DP is making the lunch, it is almost 3 o'clock. He does this on purpose right? So he's never normally asked.

StrangewaysHereICome · 08/10/2011 16:07

Goodness you lot are chatty I have no chance to keep up! Thanks for the lovely welcome Smile.

Well DS woke me at 6am so that meant he needed a nap by 8.30 so I took the opportunity for a quick 3 miler while DH watched the rugby. It's the first time in an age that I have run without the buggy and I was pleasantly surprised that I managed to average 8.36 pace. I could never do this before without needing an oxygen tent so maybe the extra effort in pushing is paying off. It was nice to swing my arms too. I'm aiming for 7 to 8 miles tomorrow, if I manage 8 it will be the furthest I have run since April 2010!

I have just survived a visit from my MIL, although I am slightly concerned over her announcement that they are thinking of moving to be closer to us Shock. now don't get me wrong, I can cope with her in small doses, she is the mother of my DH after all. The troulbe is she has many problems which can make everything very strained at times so the thought of a move nearer to us has given me a slight nervous twitch! Oh well, we'll have to see what happens.

Anyway I just wanted to wish everyone racing this weekend the best of luck. I think I have found a local 10k to enter at the end of November. Something to aim for.

DrNortherner · 08/10/2011 16:12

squix great spilts there, what a good run!

peachy and rhet am getting excited now for your imminent arrivals Smile

ibbydibby I did guffaw at your suggestion of ds wearing my garmin. Had never considered that at all.....would I not look a bit pushy mother strapping my garmin to his wrist and sending him on his way? Grin

Dh has suggested that we take him to a street we use in running club as it is a mile long and flat. Training starts tomorrow.

ibbydibby · 08/10/2011 16:51

DrNo I suggested Garmin because DS1 (v small 14 yr old) actually asked if he could wear mine this morning at parkrun...now you have me wondering if I looked like a pushy mother!!

Definitely think that showing him how to pace himself is the way to go. Is he ok now?

Strangeways well done on sneaking a run in there.

Peachy and Rhet can you remind when babies are due please (big apologies - think someone has asked recently, and you both said)

Back to boring housework now.

rhetorician · 08/10/2011 16:56

due date is officially Dec 3rd, although we have had numerous due dates, so we are hedging our bets on 29 Nov (which was my dad's birthday). Watch this space...

peach - I'd forgotten that Confused; we bought vests and babygros (but these were in a sale and it was only when I got home that I realise that they have no sleeves...grr), and a little cardigan. That's all. Pathetically disorganised, even though DP's mum gave us a tidy sum some money for her third and probably last grand-daughter.

RunningAllDay · 08/10/2011 16:59

I can't keep up with this thread; just wanted to wish fellow racers futurity, WishIwasCherrymenLove, Pawsandclaws and june2009 good luck for tomorrow, and to thank others for the good wishes!

Having been very good tapering properly, I have just spent the afternoon dragging DD1 up hills on the bike Trailgator and now feel properly pooped. DHs idea, not mine. Also onset of the dreaded period this morning; just need a cold like you, futurity to complete the hatrick! At least the weather is looking cooler than for you ladies last weekend, though Cornwall is in for hillfog and strong wind. Think I can also forget about PBs.

Also wanted to add - think I saw some discussion about calculating gradients somewhere else - have you tried GoogleEarth? As I am unGarmined (as yet!), I plot the route to work out distance and elevation changes. Also gives average and max gradients. And can work out average pace, or with the help of memorised waypoints, section pace. Bit of a faff, but makes a nice record of all your diff routes.

June2009 · 08/10/2011 17:10

Good luck to all the other runners tomorrow, probably wet cold and raining here, that'll be a first for me, I only ever run when the weather is nice (now I feel like a fraud) :D
Instead of making sure I go to bed early we are going out for our 5th year anniversary and I will most definitely have some kind of really delicious desert. No wine for me, practically (well, loosely) been teetotal since I was pregnant with dd almost three years ago.

science so sorry to hear about your stress facture, can you talk about your concern about your previous eating disorder with your GP so that you're followed? It is always quite scary when we finally find a balance and it is disrupted, take care of yourself and keep updating us! How long do they think this will last?

I tried to call the race for tomorrow to find out whether there will be a t-shirt or not, doesn't look like it from last year's pics so pinned my number on the "run to the beat" half-marathon t-shirt.
There's a goody bag at the end of tomorrow's race! which made me realise that there was no goody bag at the half marathon organised by Nike!

Better go get ready for going out tonight, take care everyone!

Ps: I do love this thread too ;)

DrNortherner · 08/10/2011 17:48

june good luck tomorrow, and everyone else racing this weekend. I think we should add a list of goodie bag items in our race reports. I do love a snickers or a marsbar Grin

Just done a lovely 5 miles on my own in the drizzle. Fell much happier. Nice bath, strictly, x factor and dh is making steak and chips for tea. Yum.

June2009 · 08/10/2011 18:41

Thanks *drno. That sounds like a lovely evening btw :)

Iirc there was no goody bag in the previous 10k I did BUT they gave us a banana and a bottle of water at the end. I also bagged a sports bottlr from reebok who were just handing them out pre-race, it's my favorite running bottle still.
At the hm they gave us a bottle of water and a bottle of energy drink, i would have loved a banana then! The tshirt was wicked good light material with race number printed on it.

peachsmuggler · 08/10/2011 19:16

My goodness, in all my good lucks I forgot to include the lovely paws! hope you have a good one lady!

June, happy anniversary! Certainly you should have a delicious dessert. Think of it as carb loading!!! Wink

Rhet, I guess you prob have most of the equipment etc from DD1, if not a few babygrows will suffice. She can sleep in a drawer, as our mothers were always telling us they did [Hmm]

Themasterandmargaritas · 08/10/2011 19:45

Oh yes Paws, you 'I'm not a runner' marathon runner, good luck for the Big One tomorrow.

futurity · 08/10/2011 20:01

Best wishes for everyone tomorrow.

I swing from really looking forward to it to just wanting to get it over and done with!

rhetorician · 08/10/2011 20:07

good luck to all tomorrow's racers; I am up for 11 miler tomorrow and trying to put myself in a positive frame of mind, rather than my usual state of slight dread and apprehension. I'm going to have a great time, aren't I?

futurity · 08/10/2011 20:17

You're going to have a great time Rhet and I'm going to have a great time (said in a overly enthusiastic manner and does a high five for emphasis)

peachsmuggler · 08/10/2011 20:28

If you are flagging Rhet, a little "Let's fucking do this!!!" will do the trick Wink

Hope you get a good night's sleep "futurity" and the snuffles keep, the flip away!!!

Oooh 2 and a half hours of X Factor. DP will be pleased!
