Ah come on, peanut butter is yummy! Wink I suppose you could substitute it with Philly or something? Bagels are great though for energy :)

futurity · 23/05/2011 20:44

peanut butter....yummy?! Hmm
Philly...thats more like it! Wink

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 20:45

or some other kind of nut butter? cashew is delish. I think I need to be a bit more focussed about my running - so now I have to buy a Garmin (MrsWeds - saw yours proudly on display in your pics)...

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 23/05/2011 20:49

Driving - mine was really useful at the weekend - when we set off, I felt like we were going at a good pace, but looking at the Garmin, we were going far too fast to be able to sustain it over the 13 miles so we slowed down. We'd not have known we were going too fast until it was too late without it!

DrNortherner · 23/05/2011 21:41

On come on guys peanut butter is delish Never tried it on a bagel, must try that. White or wholemeal and do you toast it? LIke the idea of a bacon bun!

I often have brown toast and peanut butter on a Tues at about 3.30pm, I do running club at 7pm and it gives me a boost. I at it on Sat at 8.50am and did my long run at 10am and I could still feel the peanut butter.....was too soon.

It has to be crunchy though.

Tonight I did an Armed Forces Fitness sesh, haven't been for a while due to concentrating on running. I am in the 2nd highest group, and wow could I see my fitness has improved. I won all the sprints, including beating all the men. It was approx a 150m circuit, and each time I came in first [proud]

Would never boast about this in RL, but boy it felt good Grin

Dh said I msut move up a group. But then I will be coming last.....Grin

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 21:57

Dr No that sounds like a great boost to your confidence...and beating guys is always fun, if only because it does piss them off something rotten (am a serial overtaker of men on bikes...and then they huff and puff and sweat to catch up...it's a fun game!)

I love peanut butter (wasn't allowed to eat it as a child, because my mother disapproved of it Hmm), crunchy. DD also loves it - great for uninspired nutritious lunches.

Toasted plain white bagel, but I like all kinds of bagel! Wink

squix · 23/05/2011 22:19

yay - virtual high five to backwardpossum and mrswednesday - great runs, great times and brilliant race reports. Reading your reports has made me remember lots of things as well. Mrs W - I also struggled between 7 and 9 miles - for me I think I find too much flat a bit relentless. Not that I'd want a lot of up hill, but I do like a bit of variety. And the start as well - the glare and I was also worried about how slippy it could potentially be.

And the end was terrible - I had a look on twitter and the general consensus was that the finish are was badly set out. Apart from that it was well organised, the marshalls and police did a great job. It actually inspired me to marshall or help out an event. And the supporters were great - the macmillian crowd at the corner by the relay changeover near the race course were fab and the British Heart Foundation Cheerleaders just outside Musselburgh were great too.

Driving - what I have found with the Garmin is that it's made me more aware of what I am capable off. Before I started using it I would have said my easy pace was 10 minute miles but I've found that my easy pace is actually about 9:15 - 09:30 and I can see how much things like hills affect my pace that I just couldn't from working out an average from total time and distance. I run by myself (local club looks a bit scary - lots of ultra records!) so I suppose it's like a virtual partner.

Back to reality today - DD sent home from Nursery with suspected chicken pox (one spot that I don't think is the chickenpox) and a 3 hour journey back from work due to closed roads and bridges due to the weather (I did think of you Driving Smile). Legs are sore and going down stairs - a bit wobbly!

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 22:27

squix that sounds annoying: I am laid low with brutal cold (which I was incubating going up those hills) so not sure whether I can manage to get out tomorrow...my running log is looking a bit tumbleweedy between pre-race resting and post-race lounging...also going downstairs not much fun here. ouch!

OP posts:
DebiTheScot · 23/05/2011 22:35

I'm loving the race reports. You all did so well and are very inspiring. Running in a big race sounds very exciting too.

There's armed forces fitness sessions in a park near here, I keep meanign to look into them, it sounds hard but fun.

I've been naughty with running this week. Was going to go Sat but had fish and chips for tea and was too full. Then was going to go Sunday and today but have had really bad stomach cramps which I assume are period pains although I don't usually get period pains. I've been quite lazy for the past 3 weeks and am away next week so after that I'll have to get back into it properly in prep for the tri on the 17th July.

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 22:47

I think I wish I'd done this at the weekend instead :)

June2009 · 24/05/2011 15:31

Wow so you guys are really inspiring :D I just signed up to a jog where you can do as many laps as you can (1 to10 k basically) for 01/06. Does this make it on the thread's race list? It's not technically a race I don't think, strictly speaking.
I thought it would be a good as a first event to participate in.
I haven't got a clue how events like this are run, I would imagine I'm getting something either by email or through the post within the next week.
I have a million stupid questions, like where do you put your car keys and phone and do people always run in shorts? I've only ever run in a tracksuit.
Now I'm kinda scared:D

June2009 · 24/05/2011 15:33

driving I think they do something similar in london, "urban rat race" I think it's called.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 24/05/2011 16:26

driving that looks like it would have been alot of fun.

That looks great June and a good relaxed way to startSmile

I always run in tights, long in winter, shorter in the warmer weather. You would probably find them much more comfy than tracky bottoms which tend to be a bit 'flappy' IME. I keep my keys in a little running waist pack which clips around my middle and holds my phone and stuff aswell. Some running tights have a little pocket at the back but it never seems big enough to me.

MoshiMoshi · 24/05/2011 17:03

Loving the proud DrNo on our thread! Why are we always so shy about our achievements? Is it something to do with being female? If so, why is it ok for men to boast about their victories (ie self improvement) but women are perceived as egotistical if they do it? Well done. And yes, you should continue to challenge yourself and move to the top group. Grin

sfxmum · 24/05/2011 17:21

hello sorry for the late posting real life getting in the way but I wanted to cheer on your achievements

backwardpossum mrsW squix (BP) very well done Smile you all sound absolutely on a lovely high and really seem to have enjoyed the experience. great to hear the race reports and to note the experiences and tips.

drN good to see you enjoying and celebrating, and why shouldn't you Grin

I have an exam in a couple of weeks and half term is nearly upon us, will do my best to finish the programme I am on and take it from there for the Summer, I plan to go back to the gym this week and the crazy person who leads the workouts I miss it

happy running all

MoshiMoshi · 24/05/2011 17:56

Boo! Physio says I can't run until I have strengthened my ankle sufficiently to manage 10-15 single leg squats on a Bosu Ball (on order from Amazon). Now there's a challenge! I am sure Bootcamp and ballet should be fine in the meantime (as long as I don't run...)

Wheelybug · 24/05/2011 18:20

well done DrNo ! I have a friend who does lots of BMF and hear a lot about it... it sounds tough. Incidentally she had Richard E Grant in her group the other day (lowest group !!). I love it when I find myself running faster than blokes.. it always surprises me when I do but then puts me on a high.

june - I mostly run in tights although its taken me a while to work up to it. I do slip into shorts occasionally but it has to be v. hot Grin. Do add your run to the list - a run is a run.

mrsW - I couldn't find you... security settings maybe ?

Hello SFX - hope the studying/exam goes well and good luck fitting in running esp. with half term. I am staying at my parents from the weds onwards and so with the bank hol monday before that should get lots in over half term which makes a change. And it will all be outside - yippee !

driving - that race looks fun ! One for next year ??

MOshi - I have no idea what a bosu ball is but I hope it sorts you out. No BUPA 10K this weekend then ? Any news from your mum ?

5 miles in the gym today with speed intervals. Then I found myself in the healthfood shop buying cashew butter, then Waitrose for bagels. I think there might be some subliminal marketing going on here. I'll probably find myself buying a bosu ball next !!

Wheelybug · 24/05/2011 18:46

Right that's it - I've done it, and signed up for a half marathon. Its the Brighton half and not until February but its done now. Excited and nervous already !!

squix · 24/05/2011 19:15

Just did a gentle 3 mile recovery jog - blister and quads were sore by the end of it. Mind you, wind was so strong running on the flat into it felt like uphill.

June I like long tights in winter but semi fitted 3/4 length running pants in spring/ summer. I wear shorts if v hot, but I live in Scotland so that only really happens on holiday abroad! I also find trackie bottoms get very heavy when wet, through either sweat or rain. I am still running in long sleeved tops - only rarely out in a tshirt. I do the same as doyouthink and have a wee waist pack - I think the brand is Nathan . Although if I am just going out for a shortish run I tend to not take my phone and if I have no pockets I just safety pin my house keys to the waist band - like I would with a locker key at the gym - I also keep checking to make sure they haven't fallen off.

Moshi boo - that's a shame. Also intrigued by Bosu ball.

drno - great stuff - agree with all the other comments - we should celebrate our successes.

Dd 's chickenpox has failed to materialise - unless she's had the mildest dose ever with 1 spot. Kept her off nursery today as the one spot got bigger this morning and they would probably have sent her home - luckily I could work at home but unluckily I've had Mama Mia on all day to keep Dd amused. I think its more likely to be a skin reaction or a wee insect bite or something she picked up from soft play.

drivingmisscrazy · 24/05/2011 19:19

just to say (why I don't know) we just did our nuchal and our risk is 1:11 for down syndrome, so DP had cvs today. Results Friday. We are a bit shell-shocked, and in a state of suspension until the end of the week. I know this means it's 91% likely to be ok, but someone has to be that 9%.

We have at least been able to move quickly and will know where we stand quite soon.

Running has suddenly fallen down my list of priorities.

OP posts:
June2009 · 24/05/2011 19:28

driving sorry to hear that, I know nothing we say will make you feel better and it's a really stressfull time for you right now until you get the results. It's the not knowing which is hard to deal with. It'll be Friday soon x

sfxmum · 24/05/2011 19:43

driving I think it is hand holding time until results, things always seem worst before knowing iyswim
It is still good odds but I know what you mean, take care, hope DP is feeling ok

pawsnclaws · 24/05/2011 19:55

driving just wanted to say hope all is OK - I had cvs with ds3 due to my age and previous history, and it wasn't much fun.

I did get a bit of cramping over a couple of hours after the cvs which was really scary, but it came to nothing thank goodness and the result was fine. Fingers crossed for you and your DP.

drivingmisscrazy · 24/05/2011 20:08

thanks all; DP is ok, she's very good at dealing with reality (I'm less good) - I had to come home and get DD, so had to leave her to it. The consultant who did it has a 1:300 miscarriage rate, which is good.

I think we know what we will do if the result comes back positive for downs - but I don't think it would be helpful to discuss it here for fear of offending others (I know some of you have had difficult situations and decisions of your own).
