Great race reports MrsW and backward - race reports always seem to bring a tear to my eye and are very inspiring. just had a look on your JG page MrsW - great photos ! I love the bin bag one. Are there more on FB or the same ones (not that I'm nosey or anythign Grin).

Glad the heads of state visits are a positive thing Driving ! Hope you get your park back soon.

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 16:23

I had to have a nosy at the pics too - looking good! I wish I had one of me from Saturday - drowned rat doesn't even begin to describe. Hoping legs improve overnight...

DP has decided that we are having butternut squash and ricotta ravioli Hmm which is all very well unless you are the person who has to make them...I suppose I have to let her off though, don't I?

A few more on Facebook! Including one of my breakfast (totally agree that nutrition is all important).

I always get a tear in my eye too - loved your race report backwardpossom). The one thing I wish I'd done was put my name on my t-shirt - I ran behind someone called Daz who got so much encouragement and I was totally ignored!

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 16:31

I think one of the problems on my run (well, one of many!) was that because it was off-road and the weather was foul, there wasn't anyone to cheer us on and the field very quickly got strung out and straggly, so I must confess for much of it I felt incredibly lonely :( - only in the last 1/2 mile could I hear the compere's mike calling the runners home...

I think I have learned my lesson in humility/humiliation and my plan for the rest of the year is:

5 miler on July 16
10 miler on Aug 20
half marathon on Sept 3
3/4 marathon on Oct 3

all of these are more or less flat road races; I might turn my thoughts to trails and hills next year!

I hope you're still doing the mooathon driving - and you must get pics of that !

MrsW - I'll try and find you on fb so don't be surprised if a random request comes through !

backwardpossom · 23/05/2011 16:51

Loved your race report, MrsWed - you ran a brilliant race! Well done x

Themasterandmargaritas · 23/05/2011 17:07

Driving, my apologies I was calling you Daisy Blush it's because I have one and she is driving me mad!

Wheelybug · 23/05/2011 17:07

Can't find you MrsW - are you under the same name as your Just giving page ?

TheChewyToffeeMum · 23/05/2011 17:41

Right - there is no way I am going out in that wind. There are trampolines and wheely bins flying all over the place!

MrsWednesday · 23/05/2011 17:49

Weird! Yes I am. In Leeds if that helps?

backwardpossom · 23/05/2011 17:49

It's wild isn't it? I hope it's a bit better tomorrow...

DrNortherner · 23/05/2011 18:00

LOving the race reports guys! Getting me quite tearful......can't believe it will be me soon doing this timed runing malarkey with other people Grin

Great times on here, great stories and great people. You are all inspiring me Smile

YeahThatsTheBadger · 23/05/2011 18:22

I really enjoyed reading the race reports-well done you lot. I was also a little tearful but glad others felt that way as well! Blush

Definitely feeling inspired too DrNo! I went out for a run last night and I'm finding it easier every time. Really enjoying it.

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 18:26

re: today's wind - that's what I ran 13.1 miles in, uphill, on Saturday...

DrNortherner · 23/05/2011 18:30

Bless you driving! It sounds horrendous.

I am off to a BMF session and teh wind is putting me off......

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 19:21

it's supposed to have calmed down here, but still blowing like mad - loads of folks without electricity it's so bad

Pavlovthecat · 23/05/2011 19:27

hey all, sorry not been on! you are all so much fitter and you talk more than me!!!

I have a question. Again.

I have been running to work, which is my plan. I have done 3 x 1.5 miles (last week - (mon, tues, thursday) followed by a 3.5 mile run on saturday, followed by a 3mile hike (not intended!) on sunday! So I am doing well.

But I am so very very tired. I have the energy to run, (I think because I am running at 7:30am when at my most alert) and I am really enjoying it. But rather than feeling relaxed, I am feeling absolutely exhausted all the time. I don't mean muscle exhaustion, i mean 'eyes drooping' exhaustion. And on the days I am not running. I am struggling to keep my eyes open by mid afternoon every single day now. But I am not necessarily sleeping better, I don't feel 'rested' like when I used to do exercise, you know that lovely relaxed sleep of a good workout.

My muscles are not particularly suffering, slightly sore the following day in a good way, in fact not even as much as I expected.

Is this normal, and how long can I expect this utter shattered feeling to last?

Pavlovthecat · 23/05/2011 19:28

oh and well done all those who have done races, great to hear your reports!

futurity · 23/05/2011 19:53

LOVE the racing reports! I could read them all day and you are all so good at getting the emotion and exhilaration of your days across.

Am picking up new road bike on Wednesday and am a bit nervous! How do I start...what should I do..I know so much about running but bugger all about bikes and I don't want to kill myself or over do it.

futurity · 23/05/2011 20:06

backwardpossom- can you elaborate on this as I need all the help I can get in this department!

nutrition is so important. I was really careful about what I was eating when in the run up to the race and I've never felt so good during a run!

What specifically did you eat or avoid?

drivingmisscrazy · 23/05/2011 20:15

yes, I'm interested in the nutrition angle too (my pre-race dinner was a burger and chips, plus choc and hazelnut cake plus half a pint of beer - even at the time I thought this was less than optimal!!) - do share!

OP posts:
MoshiMoshi · 23/05/2011 20:19

futurity - I too am a crap cyclist in that I know nothing about bikes and tend to get on mine for the race which is not very good and probably explains why my road handling skills are so poor.

Nutrition - has anybody read Racing Weight by Matt Somebodyorother? It is mind boggling and while it probably tells you stuff you already know, it is still quite useful to focus.

backwardpossom · 23/05/2011 20:28

Of course, I don't pretend to be any kind of nutrition guru, but if it helps...! On Friday I had a rather large omelette before I left to go down the road and some toast with pate on it when I got there. Sat breakfast was a bagel with bacon and cream cheese (I read something in Runners' World that said a bacon roll is actually a pretty good breakfast for a runner), lunch was a massive baked potato with beans and cheese, dinner was some pasta with chicken and pesto, then in the morning I had a bagel with peanut butter about 2.5 hours before the start of the race. Drinks-wise I had quite a lot of tea (which is probably not recommended) and some Lucozade sport drinks. I basically was trying to eat carbs and protein as much as possible. I think it made a huge difference - I really have never felt so good during a race. The bagel and peanut butter was recommended by my cousin's friend, who runs sub-3-hour marathons, so it can't be wrong! Wink

Pavlov could you maybe be slightly anaemic? Might be worth checking with the GP?

futurity · 23/05/2011 20:36

backwardpossom thanks for that info...does sound very yummy food but with the important balance of carbs and protein. I always have my pasta meal the evening before my long run (which is tomorrow) and make sure I drink loads (as I can't drink in the morning due to having a rubbish bladder!). Like you say it does make a difference. Will give all of your food a try ..apart from the peanut butter...(blurg!)

futurity · 23/05/2011 20:38

MoshiMoshi sounds like a good book..I will look into it. I do have "The complete guide to sports nutrition" by Ania Bean which I should look at again.

The thing I am most scared about bike wise is getting a puncture!
