mrsW hope you are feeling strong, should be fun I hear it is a lovely route, I have your page bookmarked but if I forget please remind me to sponsor

driving good to hear about scan, on the point of running I read once that some long distance Olympian run about 6 miles on the morning she gave birthShock

peach hope scan goes well, just a little bit nearer and little bit extra reassurance

badger sorry to hear of your DH's diagnosis, hang around here it is friendly encouraging and supportive

even I am thinking if I manage a half marathon next year I will entertain the thought of a marathon before I get to 45-50Grin

but have to do better than this morning 5 miles took me nearly an hr, slowly and surely I will improve
then again I have the inlaws over and they brought extra lovely wine to share as usualHmm

cestlavie · 12/05/2011 13:53

Goldberry - "Feet in the Clouds" is a great book about the (only slightly utterly insane) world of fell-running. Very enjoyable. Quite different to "Born to Run" though as is much more focused. Also makes you feel quite pitiful whimpering about a tricky 8 mile run on pavements when you read about 50 year olds running 30 miles over mountains in the snow in their plimsolls!

YeahThatsTheBadger · 12/05/2011 14:06

Times cestlavie? TIMES? I'm just hoping to pass the finish line. Grin Although I would be really disappointed if it was over 40mins as I ran that while 5months pregnant.
Thanks for all the lovely support regarding DH. Thankfully he has no symptoms and won't have for years and years. SmileAs it's not an immediate issue for us we are just putting it to the back of our minds and carrying on with everyday life. And running! Such supportive words moshi, thank you. I really hope tomorrow has a positive outcome for your mum and will keep you and your mum in my thoughts and prayers.

I am a little jealous that so many of you can casually say "I've just been for a quick 13miles this morning"! I can't imagine saying this!

drivingmisscrazy · 12/05/2011 14:10

badger, um, I think moshi might actually be the only person on this thread who could say that! more likely to be a slow and painful 13 miles, for most of us!

peachsmuggler · 12/05/2011 20:34

Will catch up properly with you all tomorrow, am knackered but just came to happily report all was well at the scan. Have been put forward a few days so will be 13 weeks tomorrow. Little baby wriggling about nicely and nice low risk result on the nuchal test. Phew!

Am going to try to relax a bit, no really I am Smile

really hope all goes well tomorrow Moshi, I have really appreciated all your kind words and support over these last few months, I just wish there was something I could do for you. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

drivingmisscrazy · 12/05/2011 20:54

yay! delighted for you peach - glad you came on as I was starting to fret...

we have our nuchal in about 10 days - DP is not youthful any more, so that's the next thing to worry about...

OP posts:
drivingmisscrazy · 12/05/2011 21:00

does that make you due around mid-November? DP is going on 11 weeks and due on Dec 3rd (LMP) or Nov 29th (going by scan) - the latter happens to be my dad's birthday :) (he's been dead a very long time...)

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 12/05/2011 21:04

Also will catch up more tomorrow but wanted to check up on peachy - great news ! Try and relax if you can but IIRC, even at 39+6, waiting in the pre-op room just about to have c-sec I was panicking it still was all going to go wrong so you probably won't relax entirely but hopefully each day, week and month will make it a little easier.

driving - although I was 'relatively' young with both my dds, my nuchal results improved significantly with dd2, when I was 4 years older (and a friend who is 5 years older than me had an 'on the verge of worrying' result wth her dd1 and second time round, also 4 years later had an amazingly low risk result). So, although obviously age is a factor it doesn't definitely mean it will be a problem. But its v. easy to say that when I'm not waiting to have a nuchal scan (and in light of my comments above, clearly I don't practise what I preach....).

Also to say, will be thinking of you tomorrow Moshi. I hope the appointment gives you answers and that they are the right ones. Stay strong.

Wheelybug · 12/05/2011 21:06

Aw 2 running thread babies so close to each other - I'd start knitting boottees (running socks ?) but I can't knit.

DebiTheScot · 12/05/2011 21:20

I went for a run Grin Just under 4 miles but it felt good and took about 36 mins which is normal pace for me. Actually I don't usually do much more than 4 at a time anyway.

Have got to do something about my pelvic floor muscles though! Suffered from a bit of um Blush leakage which was then a bit embarrasing when I overtook a man but wasn't running much faster than him and was concerned about wind direction and possible smell while I was in front of him!

sfxmum · 12/05/2011 21:24

debi for me plenty of pelvic floor exercises, its a habit and proper pilates, good run

peach very pleased for youSmile

Mrs Weds I too am in denial getting a cold, I think - it explains my exhaustion, despite only modest distances, my headache, achy bones, and inability to put together any kind of consistent pace...

bugger, is all I'll say

nice pic...

drivingmisscrazy · 12/05/2011 21:47

oh, and this is kind of where I am going - or the landscape at least. It's limestone and will be full of flowers at this time of the year (am seeking excuses for what looks likely to be an inexcusably slow time)

Congratulations Peach!

MrsWeds will sponsor you when I get to the computer later today.

Debi I agree with the pelvic floor exercises but you must make sure you do them slowly enough - these are more effective than racing through them. So you clench and hold for a few seconds each time, then repeat - and try and build up the amount of time you can hold for.

Goldberry · 13/05/2011 10:05

That's great news, Peach! Best wishes for the appointment today Moshi. Cestlavie - thanks for the summary of Feet in the Clouds - I feel quite pitiful enough reading about the running achievements of people on this thread, so maybe I should give the book a miss Grin .
I managed a 40 min run yesterday. Still trying to build up slowly and avoid the temptation of too much too soon. I can actually see the difference in my calf muscles after just a couple of weeks running with my changed gait, so they must be working hard. Even dh was impressed!

futurity · 13/05/2011 11:01

This thread wizzes along! Just a quick message to say thinking of you today Moshi. x

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 13/05/2011 11:16

Looks like it will be a lovely Half driving. You do have to make time adjustments for terrain and hilliness, don't be too hard on yourself.

Have sponsored you MrsWed. I feel slightly envious of you, I fancy doing another oneHmm

peach wonderful news about your scan, such a relief I find, getting the first trimester over and done with.

Moshi I am thinking of you today, I truly hope the news is positive.

cestlavie · 13/05/2011 11:22

Congrats peaches - great news. Always good to get that scan out of the way.

Absolutely lovely run this morning. 11 miles at a steady 8.30 min/ mile down through the canals and waterways into centre of town marred only by a towpath closure leaving me trotting around an industrial estate near the North Circular for a short time (thank god for Google maps on iPhones!). Beautiful day for running today... lots of people out and about and everyone looking pretty happy about life on balance - must be the endorphins Grin

Sending you and your mum positive vibes Moshi. Really hope it goes well for you today

drivingmisscrazy · 13/05/2011 12:09

thinking of you this morning Moshi

cestlavie that sounds great! can I borrow your legs for my half?

DebiTheScot · 13/05/2011 14:33

This thread moves too quick! I don't know if I can keep up with you and my post natal thread (as a few others have said, I don't venture much into the other bits of mn these days) and facebook and blipfoto.

Grrrr 2 fire alarms in 1 afternoon. Just what I needed!

MoshiMoshi · 13/05/2011 17:09

Back from Oxford and they are optimistic they can remove it by operating! She also has gallstones in her bile duct so it will be a major excavation. Very pleased that the best treatment option is available to her and so relieved. Thank you for positive thoughts. Am sure they helped!

pawsnclaws · 13/05/2011 17:22

That's really good news Moshi. IME the docs tend not to be optimistic unless they're confident of a good result Smile.

My mum's tumour was not on her pancreas as it turned out but actually blocking her bile duct - this was mimicking the symptoms of pancreatic cancer, but was totally removeable in her case and she made a full recovery. If you need a second opinion at any time I still have the details of the consultant she saw at King's College, who was amazing. Sounds though like she is in really good hands.

drivingmisscrazy · 13/05/2011 17:30

moshi that sounds like the most positive outcome you could have hoped for; but clearly she is in the hands of experts - pleased to hear good(ish) news when things sounded so bleak at first.

On a trivial note, didn't run today as have some kind of virus - DP has cold and sore throat, I have sore throat, achy limbs (sickness? or speed workout) and just feel wiped out. Hoping to be feeling better tomorrow so I can do a short easy run, and then a final long run Sunday. It might explain why I've been struggling so much with my runs this week when I am scaling back, even though I've done so much running...

DP totally pissed off as paracetamol really not cutting it; what she really needs is a great big cup of lemsip - but not allowed...
