Just that really - apparently ballot results out early October.

Yes! I am also waiting on tenterhooks. Feeling rather nervous! Have you done it before?

scarylooker · 27/09/2010 17:42

No! I've done some half marathons before, but am a bit out of condition, so hoping to use this to give me a kick up the proverbial. Really hoping for a yes but fearing it may be a no. You?!

Yes, did London Marathon in 2007. Think the hardest part was the commitment to training rather than the event itself. I did a half marathon as part of training for the whole marathon, which felt good - but am hoping to enter a half marathon at end of Nov, and worrying about training for that.

Joined a running club at the beginning of this year, so out twice a week (if I can) with them. Hoping this is beneficial....!

How much training are you doing at the moment?

ronshar · 27/09/2010 21:02

I am waiting too. I half hope not to get a yes as the training is going to be difficult to fit in. Or if I'm honest just a bit lazy!

futurity · 27/09/2010 21:02

Am also waiting nervously! Been rejected last two years so third time lucky (hopefully ?!?)

popsycal · 27/09/2010 21:03

waiting but hoping not:)

scarylooker · 27/09/2010 21:20

Well done ibbydibby, not doing much specific training at the moment - one longish run a week (maybe 6 miles, recently did 8 quite comfortably though I felt it the next day) - but I'm at the gym most days either jogging or cross-training.

My problem is committing to training alone, I have a friend to do my long run with but she can only make once a week. Seriously thinking about a running club if I get a place!

Scary looker, it is great to have a friend to do the long run with. I really benefitted from this when I did the LM in 2007. My friend lived 10 miles or so from me, so we would meet every weekend in a nearby forest, with a distance in mind, and just natter all the way round. Running was of secondary importance, but we still got the miles in!

Sadly we are separated by 200 miles now, so am pleased to have a joined a club. Hard work but love the camaraderie! Have you a parkrun near you (weekly timed 5k run - free!) - I am also trying to do this on a weekly basis as well. See this. Every little helps...as they say!

Cross-training sounds good.

Interesting to discover that there will be a few of us eagerly(?) awaiting the arrival of post in the next week or so..

futurity · 28/09/2010 13:56

Apparently first post may arrive on Friday (eeeeek!).

MoshiMoshi · 28/09/2010 22:45

I entered but as proof of how optimistic I am at getting a place through the ballot I have got myself a place in the Paris Marathon which is also in April!

ibbydibby · 30/09/2010 09:36

Anyone heard yet? I have got a place...in a state of shock and bricking it now! Good luck to all who are waiting to hear.....

futurity · 30/09/2010 10:14

Just got my rejection :-(

ibbydibby · 30/09/2010 10:40

sorry futurity... :-(

futurity · 30/09/2010 11:08

thanks ibbydibby..congrats on your place . I am just feeling sorry for myself as I have an ear infection and wanted something happy to happen! phoned marathon hotline to confirm they have all the rejections on record which they have so will def get in after 5 rejections. That will be 2014 - the year I am 40! Something to look forward to!!
Just looking at the rejection magazine (sulk!) and pondering the Silverstone half marathon...anyone done it?

scarylooker · 30/09/2010 11:09

Congratulations ibbydibby, commiserations futurity. If I get a rejection my back up plan is (wait for it) the Luton marathon! Am assuming there's no way of checking online ....

I got my rejection. Thank god seeing as I am 7 months pregnant! I don't even remember entering the ballot but I'm glad I did so I can start working towards 5 rejections (that is 2)

popsycal · 30/09/2010 17:14

popsycal · 30/09/2010 17:15

isore · 30/09/2010 17:23

im in! nervous though as i havent been running much this year, better get started!

scarylooker · 30/09/2010 17:36

futurity · 30/09/2010 17:39

You still get the five rejections thing if you already have 2 under your belt (ie rejected for 2009 and 2010). They sent me an email about it just before I applied for next year giving me priority application (so didn't have to fight the hoards logging onto the website!).

Glad I started applying so long ago as I know I will get a place one day...would never be able to raise thousands of pounds to get a charity place.

isore · 30/09/2010 17:48

have you heard yet futurity?

isore · 30/09/2010 17:49

oh,sorry, didnt see your previous post. How many rejections have you had now?

futurity · 30/09/2010 19:21

3 rejections...only two to go before guaranteed entry in 2014 :-)

Wallace · 01/10/2010 07:19

Damn does that mean my 2010 and 2011 rejections don't count :(
