Just that really - apparently ballot results out early October.

I don't think so Wallace..I think you had two have 2 rejections before applying this year. Phone the hotline and check (number on rejection pack and easy to get through to them)

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 01/10/2010 12:55

Oh Lordy...I've got a place....that wasn't supposed to happenShockGrin

I only entered the ballot on a whim. I have a place to run Brighton Marathon so I now have to decide whether to defer Brighton and run London next year or vice versa.

I was so convinced I wouldn't get in, I never normally win anything in raffle type thingsGrin

Sorry for all those who didn't get inSad.

Evening all. Nice to see other mumsnetters preparing for the long haul before next April.

I had rather a shock on Friday when confirmation of my place arrived, as I wasn't aware that I had entered. It looks like someone has volunteered me - I suspect DH in a twisted show of affection Hmm although he denies it vehemently.

Anyhooo, I had been toying with the idea of a spring marathon, since I need some excuse to get out of the house/office, so now I don't have to shell out euros for Paris (which, btw, is a fabby marathon and well worth considering as an alternative to London if you didn't get lucky in the ballot). Is anyone else still waiting for the post on Monday?

MoshiMoshi · 03/10/2010 12:11

I am in. So I have, er, the Paris Marathon, the London Marathon, the Edinburgh Marathon and a Half Ironman in the space of two months. Will probably ditch Paris and Edinburgh and do London and the HIM. Didn't realise marathons were like buses! Wink!

gizmo · 05/10/2010 16:38

Oh yes, Moshi, or bank queues...whichever one you're in, the other will inevitably move more quickly Wink.

So, question for those considering training schedules: I'm trying to habituate myself to 4 x a week at the moment (dd3 is 4.5 months old, any more than that would probably be too much too soon). On that schedule I suspect I could be up to race fitness for a half in January (maybe I'll try the one in York which has a good rep).

Question is, where to go from there? Most training schedules assume you're starting with no distance training under your belt, so is it better to give yourself a rest and step down in distance again, or should I be trying to keep a higher milage throughout Feb?

Decisions, decisions....

juicychops · 05/10/2010 18:03

didn't get my place - absolutely gutted

ive now applied directly through the charity i was gunna run for although everyone is probably doing that now

3rd rejection - 2 to go...

i did get the reject white running waterproof jacket which is actually quite nice - although when i wear it everyone will know im a marathon reject Confused

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 05/10/2010 18:34

Sorry you didn't get in juicychops. I hope you are successful with a charity place.

I've often wondered that about training gizmo.

My plan is just to start from the level I'm at, not go backwards. My long run will be 10 miles in a couple of weeks which I'll stick at until I pick up marathon training around christmas time. It's so frustrating because I was regularly running half marathon distance in the spring but I hurt my knee, then had a charity bike ride, then the hols came along and it all slid. Now I'm just getting getting back to a routine of regular running and increasing my distance slowly.

I've decided to do London and defer Brighton the following year. I figure that if it's the worst experience of my life and I never want to do another at least I will have done LondonWink

gizmo · 05/10/2010 18:37

Hey Juicychops, everyone will be wearing them...it's not like they've got 'Failed quality control' on the back Smile
