He's been a politician for decades.
He's headed multiple political parties.
He's made a fucking mint out of the pockets of UK tax payers.

But what has he done for us? How has he improved any of our lives in the decades he's held political office and charged us handsomely for the privilege?Confused

Notmymarmosets · 27/09/2025 01:51

I think reform or some amalgamation of right wing parties will win.
He, if it is him, will not be able to govern. Reform just do not have the knowledge experience or sense.
It will be pure chaos.
Tbh I'd be grateful at this stage if Tories were part of the setup. To dilute the madness.

Flomingho · 27/09/2025 02:39

Farage is despicable. We have had weak governments for the last few years. Brexit and a global pandemic have added to the shit show and now Farage is using immigration as a convenient excuse to peddle his poison. Unfortunately, people will always look for someone to blame in times of austerity. The frightening thing is the same happened in Germany in the 1930's and look how that ended. Then we have the other idiot stirring up hatred on the other side of the Atlantic. I genuinely worry about how it will pan out because it is looking likely Farage could win an election.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 27/09/2025 07:58

Boat arrivals have risen sharply since Labour won in 2024. However, UK ranks fifth in terms of immigration behind:

1st Germany
2nd France
3rd Spain
4th Italy.

As more people enter the EU from trouble/war zones, more are likely to end up in Calais. Those in Calais are not seeking asylum in France which is why the French authorities don’t have to deal with them.

The most common nationalities that arrive by boat are:

Afghanistan
Eritrea
Iraq
Iran
Syria

All trouble and war zones.

Did Brexit cause the troubles/wars in those Countries? No it did not.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 27/09/2025 08:15

@LoremIpsumCici

“there is no uncontrolled immigration”

I suggest you watch Starmer on BBC news 26 September 2025. He stated that for decades it’s been too easy for immigrants to come to the UK and disappear into the illegal Labour market.

Likewise the French president, Marcon, stated that UK must disincentivise migrants from crossing the channel.

How a digital ID prevent that I am not sure.

I find the idea of him being PM absurd. It’s like getting an arsonist as a fireman.

I love this

Farage is partly responsible for the increase in small boat arrivals, because it's a consequence of Brexit.

And it was a foreseeable consequence. (We're no longer able to return people to the EU country they first arrived in under the Dublin Regulation.)

So given where trusting him got us last time, I don't think I'll be giving him another turn.

Edited

Yep,
Farage and his not- so merry band of followers fail to address the fact that when the UK left the Dublin Agreement it made it more difficult for the UK to return migrants to EU countries .
The migrants then had a greater incentive to cross the channel which is why there is an influx of small boats .
The truth is that Farage is a morally corrupt opportunist who revels in his role as a serial antagonist to successive UK governments
I am not even convinced that he actually wants to be Prime Minister as this would involve him having to actually develop realistic policies .
He has the backing of the even more repugnant Elon Musk so actually has a chance of becoming the next PM
Elon Musk facilitated the election of the ‘Tangerine Toddler’ aka Trump so it would not be a surprise if he did the same with Farage. Sad times

Abhannmor · 27/09/2025 09:22

If I were in Britain I'd worry about the economy under a Farage led government. Liz Truss and Donald Trump are his role models. He described the Liz Truss mini budget that wrecked the British economy as ' the best Budget since 1986'.

It's surprising he is never asked about that
. But then the Tory client media has transferred it's affections to him instead and virtually anointed him as next PM. Starmer is boring and they need the clicks I suppose.

Then there is his fawning adoration of Trump. Again , this is not shared by the UK public. It will be interesting to see how he disentangles himself from that odd infatuation. Or will he just dig in , shouting about the deep state and fake news, while the blundering madman destroys his own country?

BeHappySloth · 27/09/2025 09:24

An evil man who will exploit the stupid for his own gain. He is a very good con artist.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 29/09/2025 22:23

The number of people UK returned under the Dublin agreement was measured in the 100s per year.

2017 - 314
2018 - 209

No where near the numbers that are entering by boat which is measured in the 10,000s. So, even when UK was part of the Dublin agreement, the numbers returned were minuscule.

NigelFaragesFakeRoarofLaughter · 29/09/2025 22:50

It was an effective deterrent, then?

As we keep being told the expensive and unworkable Rwanda scheme would be. But all there already at no extra cost as part of membership of the EU.

NigelFaragesFakeRoarofLaughter · 29/09/2025 22:53

The big question – and Farage has to answer this – is why was he so keen to increase the number of asylum seekers arriving in the UK?

He worked very hard for a long time to get this result.

CrispsPlease · 29/09/2025 22:55

He's charismatic and has a certain charm.
He appeals to the working classes primarily. (No judgement, I'm educated but working class born )
What I do like about him is he is very plain speaking. If asked a question, he will give a direct answer that's easy to interpret and understand. There's no waffle or avoidance tactics.

I don't think he's the best idea of a prime minister. But I think there are worse.

He's not an extreme as people make out. People get very hyperbolic. Hrs right wing. But he's not hard right or extreme right.

He's a good aggravator and we do need that.

That's a dangerous level of hyperbole. He's not evil.

OhDear111 · 29/09/2025 23:08

This country doesn’t like the PM. Ever. They always get low ratings. We prefer people who have been an mp for 5 minutes and shout about one topic. He’s the manipulator that comes up with simple messages that suckers believe. People who have no skills in critical thinking. So, that’s the issue. Racist, jealous, economically illiterate suckers. We seem to have millions of them and they haven’t learnt from Brexit. They are going to bring us down in the end.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2025 00:30

I despise him. The harm he’s contributed to causing in Britain and also Europe (the U.K. leaving the eu was bad for them too) is unforgivable.

I think Starmer will do that job, tbh.

Fleetheart · 30/09/2025 04:55

He has gone to the US and talked down Britain; he has had as the leader of Reform in Wales a man who has been found guilty of taking bribes from Russia. He was known by his school teachers as a National Front sympathiser. He has th gift of the gab but is utterly self seeking. Is this who we want to lead us? Why do these public school types keep appealing to the working class in this country?

His linking paracetamol in pregnancy to thalidomide is morally reprehensible and that’s just today’s ridiculous statement.

FFS

Looks like we can have our very own Donald Trump!

GabrielsOboe · 30/09/2025 05:14

The UK is at risk of becoming ungovernable - we are increasingly polarised and divided, and Labour have torn up the social contract.

Reform’s recent popularity is merely the result of 15 months of Labour ineptitude and spite.

We are not here by accident.

crunchylamp · 30/09/2025 05:19

He's a good aggravator and we do need that.

Yeah - we need him like we all need trepanning.

Have you heard this thing about global warming? It might be a good idea to have sustainable energy. What does Nigel feel about that?

Oh hang on - he's a self-serving bigot and doesn't give a shit

GarlicPound · 30/09/2025 06:16

It looks like a very large section of the British public wants to be governed by posh clowns who make no secret of their cynicism and disdain. It's bizarre. And just as worrying now as it was in 2016 and 2019.

I'm thinking Labour should appoint two spokespeople - one proper adult who explains things clearly (maybe someone similar to Emily Maitlis) and a jocular buffoon who likes a drink and a zany photo opportunity. They should both be superb and prolific fact checkers, but The Adult calmly tells the truth while The Oaf makes hilarious jibes at the opposition's bullshit. Both should work really hard at media relations.

The Oaf will revel in devil-may-care indiscretions, which will always turn out not to have been so bad after all, but he'll have made such an entertaining show of it that people will forget whether he actually did it. He'll spout off about getting things done, proving he's a man of action by being filmed doing things - any things. The Adult will appear to have a love-hate relationship with The Oaf but, like brother and sister, they always agree on what matters. The PM will hold a position like a wise father or older brother, the guide steering the 'family' with a steady hand, unswervingly respected by both Adult and Oaf.

Now to convince the Cabinet ...

Foxyloxy89 · 30/09/2025 06:26

Straight talking, not afraid to speak his mind. A refreshing change from the bullshitting usual politician who says whatever he thinks the public wants to hear at that time. I don't agree with all of his policies and beliefs but that's not the question you asked.

BeHappySloth · 30/09/2025 07:11

CrispsPlease · 29/09/2025 22:56

That's a dangerous level of hyperbole. He's not evil.

He is not evil in your opinion.

I beg to differ.

History will judge.
