Cost of living and immigration aren't helped by Farage's Brexit
As always corrections are required.
Cost of living rise is attributed to:
Austerity from 2008 onwards due to financial crash. Was the financial crisis caused by Brexit. No, not possible as Article 50 was not passed by the EU until 2009
COVID 2020 to 2023 causing supply chain issues worldwide. Brexit did not cause COVID.
Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 which caused energy prices to increase. Did Brexit prompt Russia to invade the Ukraine. No it did not.
Due to wars and troubles in the Middle East region, millions have fled Westwards into the EU. In 2020, the figure was 2 million. In 2022, the figure was 5 million. Some have found their way into the UK.
The most common nationality of people arriving in the UK by boat is:
Afghanistan
Eritrea
Iran
Iraq
Syria
Did Brexit cause the troubles in those Countries that people are fleeing from. No is the answer.
Will the UK need more immigrants in the future? Yes is the answer due to an ageing population and declining birth rate. However, they need to be immigrants that can contribute to the economy as opposed to those who take from the economy.
Article 50 was triggered on 29 March 2017. Farage was not an UK MP until 4 July 2024.
