(previous thread)

That's "king" as a suffix not a prefix. Also part of a phrase.

Yes, they have twigged they fucked themselves.

Yes, I was probably being too charitable to them.

Remember the marches ? Remember the constellation of banners from all walks of life - including farming ? Because I do.

We went away to Suffolk/Norfolk just before the vote and the fields were full of Leave banners. It's like the fishermen. Thought they were getting one over on Johnny Foreigner until they realised they'd been had. See also Cornwall...the whitest place on earth, who can't even bear the 'English'.

Yeah, they can also Fuck Right Off. Still no interest in fixing the damage they did to others.

Mark Drakeford has blamed Brexit voting farmers for Welsh ministers having to draw up their own farm subsidy proposals.

I went on all the marches. I do remember marchers coming from all parts of the country. I don't remember any farmer's banners, but it's not to say there weren't a few.

I do remember the fields round here being full of vote Leave signs.

Sunlit Uplands latest: “Peter Hardwick, the trade policy adviser at the British Meat Processors Association said the extra costs had been ‘catastrophic’.
The rules had hurt small businesses most, he added.”

Brexit has cost UK food companies exporting to EU an extra £170m

Exclusive: Data shows costs have contributed to value of meat exports falling by 17% since 2019

And now we can finally bury the oft-repeated lie about "Sovereignty".

"It's the ultimate irony. Britain is demanding the EU toughen up rules, worried about the threat of another financial crisis. It's a problem because British watchdogs are powerless to address a vulnerability in the UK’s financial system without EU action."

Brexit’s latest twist: Britain pushes the EU to increase red tape

The City of London was supposed to have been set free by Britain’s departure from the EU. That’s not how it’s turning out.

demanding

"'Demanding' is not a word for Princes", is I believe the correct - if ironic - riposte.

I notice that SCOTUS is very very slowly working out that it can do whatever it likes, and is slowly pulling the ladder up after itself when it comes to right wing whackjobs.

The refusal to hear the Sidney Powell and MTG cases - thus lumbering them with a shitload of debt - is interesting. Doesn't bode well for the 2 Trump cases.

Is it just me, or is MTG a dead ringer for Nadine Dorries in the batshittery department ?

I went on the Brexit marches.
I wore red tooth brushes on my lapel
there were no pro farming banners anywhere to be seen

the one safter the vote - farmers still thought they were speshul

Talkinpeace · 21/02/2024 14:42

Re Trump,
I love the fact that in New York Law he has to lodge every dollar of the fines, in cash, with the court
before he can launch any appeal
and interest started being added the minute the judgements were handed down ...
I gather its running at $5 million a day !!

DuncinToffee · 21/02/2024 16:31

He has got some sneakers to sell you Grin

Talkinpeace · 21/02/2024 16:39

$399 sneakers - needs to sell 12531 pairs a DAY just to cover the interest

And who will believe the valuations of his properties when he puts them on the market ;-)

Food industry warns 'Not for EU' labelling will deter investment in UK

Food and Drink Federation said the post-Brexit labelling regime will cost “hundreds of millions of pounds” and had already caused international investors to “pause” plans to put capital into the UK.

For anyone who believes in quantum vibrations (?) the weird sympathetic situations around US and UK speakers of houses must be some sort of proof of concept ....

Food industry warns 'Not for EU' labelling will deter investment in UK

I have seen this on two packets of food items I bought in the last couple of days. The question arises - will people assume that it's not up to EU standards?

I know that is not the intention, it's a fudge to stop foods sent to NI ending up in RoI.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 22/02/2024 12:48

@Peregrina And yes Globetrotter2000 please come on and post to tell me that any party likely to get elected hasn't got re-joining as their policy.

At least you acknowledge the major parties are not campaigning to rejoin the EU. However, remain supporters have not yet explained why that is so?

If, as remain supporters claim, there is proof (as opposed to opinion) of the following:

Everyone who is eligble to vote wants the UK to rejoin the EU
Everyone in the UK is worse off since 2016
All EU members are better off than the UK since 2016

Peregrina · 22/02/2024 13:03

Everyone who is eligble to vote wants the UK to rejoin the EU
Everyone in the UK is worse off since 2016
All EU members are better off than the UK since 2016

Who has claimed that? I could say "No one has claimed that" but you would challenge me on how many people I had asked.

It can easily be refuted - die-hard Leavers would rather suffer than rejoin the EU, so that knocks the statement about Everyone on the head.

HannibalHeyes · 22/02/2024 13:04

It has been repeatedly explained to you. But you keep coming on and repeating the same thing over and over again.

This is how we know you are a bad faith actor.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 22/02/2024 13:22

@HannibalHeyes It has been repeatedly explained to you

Where and when?

Rather than you trawling back through threads, it may be easier if you can provide a few reasons as to why the major parties are not campaigning to re-join the EU, despite the so called evidence that proves the UK is soon to become extinct due to Brexit?

@Peregrina die-hard Leavers would rather suffer than rejoin the EU, so that knocks the statement about Everyone on the head.

Who are the die-hard leavers that you know who have stated they prefer to suffer that rejoin the EU? Is there an opinion poll (not that I trust such polls) which suggests there are such persons?

pointythings · 22/02/2024 13:25

Well, Louise Collins is one. She has a long history of posting on these threads. Beyond that, look at any Brexit related Facebook group and they're there.

Peregrina · 22/02/2024 13:58

it may be easier if you can provide a few reasons as to why the major parties are not campaigning to re-join the EU

This one is easy - Remainer MPs were chased out of the Tory party, or like Liz Truss they turned their coats. Labour would get slaughtered by a right wing press if they espoused rejoin, but first need to get into Government.

despite the so called evidence that proves the UK is soon to become extinct due to Brexit?

Are you making a claim here, or are you trying to pretend that any of us have made such a statement? Certainly a united Ireland could well be a possibility in the future, in which case by definition the UK becomes extinct.

Peregrina · 22/02/2024 14:01

Who are the die-hard leavers that you know who have stated they prefer to suffer that rejoin the EU?

Not the sort of people I mix with.

But we can think of people like Jacob Rees-Mogg who won't personally suffer because he has money, but he won't give two hoots if ordinary people do.
