Which was particularly stupid because one of the Brexiters gripes with the EU was that they were rule bound and inflexible.

borntobequiet · 17/05/2022 07:33

He says that not one of the five parties he talked to like the Protocol. But which one is throwing its toys out of the pram? No surprise it’s the DUP. They really thought Brexit would reintroduce a hard border, didn’t they? That was their goal, to stymie a United Ireland for ever. And of course they’ve always been able to put enough pressure on Conservative governments to get their own way (with the honourable exception of the Major government perhaps).

I do like the way the interviewer asks if he read the impact assessment. Ha ha, of course he didn’t - why bother if he was going to ignore it anyway?

DuncinToffee · 16/05/2022 23:45

Holy fuckballs, this is what rules us.

HappyWinter · 17/05/2022 11:02

I hope your mum is ok, Chiswick Flo.

I had to double check the video was real😂, why is everything political like an episode of The Thick of It, now?

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 17/05/2022 11:31

Ye gods and little fishes. I despair.

Flo how's your mum? And did you enjoy your meal?

ChiswickFlo · 17/05/2022 11:43

Lovely meal, thank you.
Mum is OK. Well, not OK, but not acutely unwell atm.
More blood tests next week (no idea what for)
I had my 6 monthly eye appointment today. Its a long trip but its a UK centre of excellence so worth it.
I'm staying away from the news today...its just beyond parody now (except this is our lives and our children's lives being played with by these public school chinless wonders)

Sama here, @ChiswickFlo . I'm clearing out the first of my raised beds today. Yes, very late. But not too late to get out some summer and autumn veg for us. Very therapeutic. The wilded section at the back of my garden is coming alive, lots of attractive flowering things most people would call weeds - doing my bit for the insect and bird populations. Just need to cull the nettles and brambles so they don't take over.

ChiswickFlo · 17/05/2022 12:19

We've been planting new trees and shrubs too @pointythings ...
Flowering cherry, clematis, fuschia, begonias in my summerhouse flower box...
I find it very therapeutic.
My hyacinths and tulips have been beautiful this year.

First bed is ready - got one of my horde coming home for the summer this weekend, so we will be planting together. Got some sunflowers needing to go as well. And we did some foxgloves last year - started indoors, loved and nurtured, we thought they'd died because it was such a dry spring. But they're there, flowering and well!

ChiswickFlo · 17/05/2022 16:41

Love foxgloves!
We've got some sunflowers seeded too, but they aren't growing much atm

OP posts:
pointythings · 17/05/2022 16:45

Ironically when the DC were little we took all the foxgloves out because they don't mix with toddlers. But now we're having them back.

DrBlackbird · 17/05/2022 18:58

So just because the economy is going so well, you know, everyone happy to pay highest petrol and energy prices, food prices in a generation along with reduced trade and rising inflation, our brilliant cabinet feels the time is ripe to kick off a trade war. For what, to keep DUP in their back pocket? They were useful one time. Might need them again heh? Ignore the rest of what the people of NI voted for and kill off those SMEs that have managed to keep trading with the EU.

At least the cabinet can once again raise the spectre of the nasty EU to distract from their own economic incompetence.

And this is from Express readers!

OK, what are your guesses...

Conservative MP arrested on suspicion of rape

Menomadness · 17/05/2022 20:19

I am a very regular lurker on here and previous threads.
I am just popping in to say WTF!! The front of these shystersAngryis beyond the beyond. Liz Truss today in HOC I don't know how she didn't have some eggs thrown at her ( unlike the statue of the person she copies photo ops from)
I have no idea why somebody didn't shout out " no shit Sherlock" when she said businesses are finding it hard to trade.
In other news Ed Milliband bossed it with Sunak 😀

Who didn't show up to vote on Labour’s motion on imposing windfall tax on oil and gas producers?

And yes, it was voted against 310 to 248, no Tory voted in favour.

HannibalHeyes · 17/05/2022 21:10

The are six male Tory MPs that became members of Parliament in 2001 and are between the ages of 50 and 59.
Boris Johnson
Jonathan Djangoly
Bill Wiggin
Mark Francois
Andrew Rosindell
Richard Bacon
I would assume 5 of them are very unhappy at present.

HannibalHeyes · 17/05/2022 21:17

In presumably entirely unrelated news, Mark Francois is again trending on twitter...

ChiswickFlo · 17/05/2022 21:17

He'd be my guess tbh

Although this just in;

Alex Tiffin
@RespectIsVital
NEW - Conservative MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell, won't be present on the Parliamentary Estate until further notice following his arrest on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in a public office.

theconversation.com/the-darkness-of-boris-johnson-a-psychologist-on-the-prime-ministers-unpalatable-personality-traits-177662

This psychologist is going out on a limb to suggest that Johnson might legitimately have a ‘dark personality’.

“Dark” personalities are marked by psychopathic traits of a lack of empathy, conscience and guilt, and a failure to take responsibility. They can’t accept that they are ever at fault, so they instinctively blame other people – or other external factors – for negative events.

Hmm, do we think that might reasonably describe Johnson? 🤔

Quite the heady debate in TBL comments with, presumably, those upset about analysing Johnson’s character without, shock and horror, having actually met him possibly being Dorries or Rees-Smugg in disguise?

Freedom of movement essential for delivering Brexit

"Three key UK regulators are struggling to recruit and train enough staff to implement the govt’s promise to deliver Brexit benefits, a report by the spending watchdog has found."

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2022 11:01

Johnson often shows his 'dark' side when confronted with facts/truths, especially when delivered by a woman.
