Clown companies well there is a shortage in Northern Ireland at least so thats something. Smile Cabotage sounds like something you would order in a brasserie.

Harold Wilson kept us out of the Vietnam War that makes him a hero in my book.

Harold Wilson also had enough sense to sit back from leading the Yes side in his Referendum because he knew that for a significant number it would be a Referendum on his PMship. His aim was the same as Cameron's - to deal with squabbles in his own party but not being an entitled old Etonian, he knew better how to deal with them.

vera99 · 15/10/2021 09:20

These were smoky room players who had careers forged in wartime service. They were no fools either side of the House.Etonians have an innate sense of their own powers and exceptional ism. Indeed that one school has produced 22 Prime Minister's some much for equality.

Without them it is hard for the UK to justify being a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and who would want to be the Prime Minister who accepted the UKs real place in the world order?

This could so easily happen within the next ten years - Scotland gains Independence, Ireland re-unites and Murdoch who is already 90, dies and his successor isn't as interested in Britain as he was. Added to that the Queen will almost certainly die unless she lives longer than her mother, Commonwealth countries will decide they don't need Charles as Head of State and whoosh, the other Nations of the World say Why do we need England on the Security Council?

But it is extremely unlikely to be Johnson who this happens to - he will have long scarpered, and be on his fourth or fifth marriage, but won't get the RC wedding this time because his last one was held to be valid.

East Anglia bylines reporting on how well Brexit is being perceived in Suffolk.

However, when the next election comes, their crosses will duly go against the name of the Tory candidate.

DrBlackbird · 15/10/2021 09:38

Argh. Thread moving too quickly to keep up between work and home.

Anyhow, I’m amused by the Johnson government/Johnson being trolled by an ex-insider that we all presume has more knowledge than ourselves of real conversations that took place at the time of signing the agreement.

Dominic Cummings
@Dominic2306
good faith blah. listen to babble of student politics from sw1 insiders infantilised by EU membership. it was international diplomacy vs people trying to cut our balls off. of course there wasn't 'good faith' you 🤡. NEWSFLASH: cheating foreigners is a core part of the job*

I saw part of the Grant Schapps interview on BBC Breakfast: he really did seem surprised about something called cabotage and was expecting praise for having unilaterally allowed it within the UK for the next 6 months, as it would solve all the distribution problems Hmm

How long have we been talking about the importance of cabotage? Confused

vera99 · 15/10/2021 09:39

Johnson not getting a valid divorce that's a new angle Peregrina that I hadn't thought of. He'll be good for 12 kids by 6 women is my prediction and his painting s will go for several hundred quid on eBay. Carrie will do the kiss and tell because the money will be so huge and her vengeance so determined. Unless of course she jumps ship to Zac.

Those 20 extra drivers are going to be severely overworked - delivering to Penzance and then having to take a part load to Birmingham, and then another Edinburgh and then picking up a load there for the return to Dover.

As said in the Byline article, there is a noticeable tail-off in online trolling by Leave voters

vera99 · 15/10/2021 10:00

Could there possibly be a role for Sir Bob Geldof along the lines of Brexit Aid. Give us yet fookin drivers sort of thing. Where are our pop stars when you need them.

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 15/10/2021 10:06

Geldof was on the Zoe Ball radio 2 show recently and he had a real go at the brexit effects on touring and the BBC's coverage

Roger Daltrey on the other hand..

vera99 · 15/10/2021 10:10

Thanks for that Byline Suffolk article it has cheered me up and I'm on the train to Norwich for a weekend away

OP posts:
ReturntoSpamfritters · 15/10/2021 10:13

Norwich is remainy so you should be OK Smile
Hope you have a nice weekend.

Stilltalkstotrees · 15/10/2021 10:22

My (v brexity) uncle lives on the Suffolk coast. My dear ma was talking to him yesterday and she said he was ranting about remainers - furious about how we've messed up Brexit 🤪 She found it funny but I've lost my sense of humour on this subject.

DoubleTweenQueen · 15/10/2021 10:28

Article linky. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/oct/14/tory-government-low-wage-economy-immigration-crisis?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other&fbclid=IwAR17jsABN6e69hP1JDXLSzY9wT4fM_16_2o4otpE3na647cIS7tMYfesciQ

But I think all those extolling the Gvmnts virtues have gone to ground, so possibly a bit pointless.

vera99 · 15/10/2021 10:35

Oh yes if only we had embraced Mays deal then we might not be here. And there is some truth in that we might have gotten half a cake and some sort of single market fudge. Who knows we are where we are. Johnsons still on holiday and Raab get the hump apparently if you call him DPM whilst Truss flaunts it at Chevening. A right royal mediaeval court of King Caractacus.Oh shit that's a Rolf Harris song....

OP posts:
DoubleTweenQueen · 15/10/2021 10:35

Senior Ministers are also dropping in 'levelling up' into interviews - Javid yesterday on GP and primary care services.

  • clever phrase that likely got its instigator a promotion, as it suggests consideration and action.
Peregrina · 15/10/2021 10:48

My dear ma was talking to him yesterday and she said he was ranting about remainers - furious about how we've messed up Brexit

That was Frostie's line too - we had to push a bad deal through because of the Remainers. Conveniently ignoring that they had just won an 80 seat majority having chased out most Remain MP and could have asked for more time from the EU to get the deal they really wanted.

And then Cummings goes and spills the beans.

DoubleTweenQueen · 15/10/2021 11:13

Yes - the only thing stopping them from spending further time on developing a better deal (if you believe that's what they recognised was needed) was their own bloody-mindedness, and determination to paint the EU as 'the enemy'.
Much like pulling out of joint ventures, some years and £millions down the line, which if we'd seem through would have been exceedingly useful - Galileo, Euratom.

At least we still have access to Horizon.

Peregrina · 15/10/2021 11:22

Galileo - and then whining about being excluded.

LouiseCollins28 · 15/10/2021 11:29

@vera99

Hmm Trident if we ever have to use them then the world is in flames. A family member has a bf serving on one and he has said to me that they fear American adventurism far more than another hostile nation.Oh and yes willy waving and the price of post war follow US right and wrong diplomacy. Harold Wilson kept us out of the Vietnam War that makes him a hero in my book.
Again, they are being "used" round the clock every day. While I'm typing this and while anyone is reading it. Done there job with 100% effectiveness to date as well.
