The sooner Labour put forward a manifesto the longer tories/media have to appropriate/neutralise/parody any ideas - its a fine balance between exposing strategy and having enough time to get traction.

The opposition parties have been hidebound by tory 'ownership' of patriotism and pfeffel's continuous 'won't you get behind this

The TV/radio news programmes are beginning to ask harder questions of government spokesmen but haven't yet worked out how to address blatant lies.

Yes we have to wait for a collapse that the government has to own, ideally just after the repeal of the fixed term Parliament act.

There is a plan and why am I not surprised a Goldman Sachs alumni Bannon is a key player ...

wewereliars spot on.
I am hoping that if a GE is called early (quite possible), that among other things, all the Unionist politicians in NI get kicked out on their arses. The Tories too, obviously.

But he we stopped the migrants arriving on dinghies coming here.....

The successors top the KGB has 250,000 folk working for it MI5 in comparison is around 4,500 and they have great skill in cyber. I think it is beyond doubt that their interference at an opportune time swung Trump and Brexit through social media message amplification. Cumming's spent years as a young man there as well and as is well known Boris is deep in bed with Lebedev.

Into this murky world themes emerge, opportunities are seized and the bandwagon gains traction the faster it goes. Not so much a conspiracy more a confluence of shared interests and the pursuit of power.

news.sky.com/story/pig-cull-government-set-to-allow-more-foreign-butchers-in-to-prevent-mass-slaughter-12433407

The National Pig Association (NPA), which represents the majority of farmers affected, said it was "quietly optimistic" and that the requirement for butchers to speak English was "the final blocker".

DoubleTweenQueen · 14/10/2021 13:25

@Lonelycrab

We need Labour/LD/Greens to work together for the next GE

100% agree.

It’s not going to happen though, is it.

It depends how bad the situation is when the time comes, as to whether parties work together re: agreeing not to field candidates in favour of another party to see off the Cons.

There was quite a bit if tactical voting going on last time - our LD nearly unseated the safe Cons position.

Would need a bit of both to make the difference.

The Govt doesn't care. Farming can go completely tits up for all they care. As was predicted by Leave's pet economist Patrick Minford. I really think these people are all psychos.

Whatever happened to Liz's Pork Markets...

Obviously it’s not the time for a manifesto. But some actual ideas wouldn’t go amiss. I heard Jonathan Ashworth, Shadow Health Secretary of Health, speaking on BBC News this lunchtime. There was nothing he said that was worth hearing. He said the Conservatives had run down health services (true) and that when in power Labour had done long term planning (probably true too). That was it. So what? Someone somewhere in Labour must have some ideas about what to do right now and in the future, in which which case why can’t we hear some possible options? I really don’t think they’re doing anything other than look inwards at the moment and hope the Government fucks up. Unfortunately that’s how they’re perceived, and the longer they do this the fewer people will consider them fit for anything.
Actually I did hear Ed Milliband speak very well the other day, so perhaps there’s hope. He does seem to have a functioning brain and some imagination.

I don't disagree with anything you say. What puzzles me is that government doesn't have a functioning brain or any ideas other than looking after their mates, but it is always Labour that has to come up with ideas.
borntobequiet · 14/10/2021 15:27

I think it’s reasonable for a member of the official Opposition to come up with some possible lines of action if asked, especially if the current Government isn’t functioning. Then at least we could differentiate between them instead of thinking “yes, they’re useless, but the others are useless too”.

TheElementsSong · 14/10/2021 15:31

In the Miliverse, he won the election in 2015, and we never had Brexit or any of the resulting self-inflicted idiocy that followed.

Oh that time machine - we might have found that David also had problems with bacon sarnies... indeed it was literally bananas. The toxic filth machine would have gone into full gear against any Labour leader tbh.

According to the Independent, the gvmt are starting to make noises about avoiding culling so many pigs because they were sent pictures of pigs suffering.
inews.co.uk/news/politics/pig-crisis-farms-famers-culled-boris-johnson-ministers-photos-animals-butchers-1247753

BJ doesn't read international legislation before signing it, but is moved to change tack by photos of sad pigs, after saying the animals would have died anyway.
Fucksakes.
Maybe the answer is to bombard him with photos of sad people?

Peregrina · 14/10/2021 17:40

I wonder if that will net a total of 20 butchers?

Peregrina · 14/10/2021 17:46

But I would expect the Leavers to spin this as those pigs weren't killed after all, so it was Remoaner scaremongering again.

So much that is wrong under international law about the UK's plans on how it, as a nation, will treat asylum seekers and refugees Angry

But this particular bit transfers the risk onto individual border officers Sad

Whether the provision, tucked away in an obscure corner of the bill, would actually protect officers from conviction under international maritime laws could be tested in the courts.

From a private Brexit FB group I'm in - which has EU citizens and partners sharing experiences of what it is to try and live here and regularise citizenship. All seemed to have felt they experienced racism at some point often overtly.

Indeed on my Nextdoor group - if you don't like it here why don't you go back to your own country. These are our fellow citizens who care for the elderly, treat you in hospital, empty our bins, drive our lorries, work in supermarkets, picking food in the fields. I have more in common with them than my Brexit voting kith and kin. I'm ashamed to be British these days sorry Clav you can stick your spitfire where the suns don't shine. (not Marbella of course - no mud sticks anymore they can do whatever they want to do - cheered on by the mob).

www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/oct/14/boris-johnsons-holiday-villa-linked-to-offshore-tax-havens-documents-suggest

"I'd like to share a testimony about accessing college courses in UK (trade union training courses in my case).
In 2017 I was elected as a trade union workplace rep. When I did my first two basic training courses there were 2 EU citizens in the group, myself and another German lady. We were all asked about residence rights and rights to attend the course. I felt somewhere between furious and gobsmacked. I showed my NHS staff ID. I gave them my registration details with the General Medical Council , thinking that if I'm good enough to treat patients in UK since 1998, surely I'm good enough to attend a trade union course?! I got threatened with being physically removed from the course (this from a trade union that deems itself anti-racist but has lots of right wing racists in its ranks). Not one of the white British participants stood up for us two EU citizens. Eventually (and mainly out of fear of being reported to the GMC or my employer) I just wrote my German ID number on a piece of paper and gave it to the facilitator.
Fast forward to tomorrow when I'm starting the next level of trade union training. This time I registered online. Again there was a question about residence rights, so I ticked the following boxes
"EU citizen" ✔
"Right of abode in UK"✔
"British citizen" ✔
"Right to work in UK" ✔
just to p&%$ them off 🤣🤣
I shall see whether there will be any requests for "clarification"..."

And another ... Clav's houses stuffed full of Romanians is just that a dog whistle that she like to blow. I don't expect an answwer.

"I don't give up that easily, I'm a strong person with broad shoulders. But enough is enough ...
I moved to the UK 9 years ago "out of love" without knowing that I was going to put myself in the hands of a narcissist. It took 4 traumatic years until I felt confident and safe enough in a foreign country to free myself from this personal hell. However, I couldn't go back to Germany, I had nothing, but at least I had a job here. I have found a cozy new home, made new friends and felt at home in Scotland.
Then came Brexit. It didn't affect my life at first, but it has gradually changed over the years, became really difficult after 01.01.2021, and since June it is just a nightmare.
Now the point has been reached where I no longer willing to tolerate the Hitler salute, no longer overlook xenophobic behavior, no longer want to be a second-class citizen. I am now looking forward following the prompt to return to where I come from. It's just a shame that I have to stay another 11 months - but the preparations make it bearable.
Certainly not all that glitters in Germany is gold, as I know from experience, but at least I have my family and best friends there, good health care, can keep my job - and I am not a foreigner there.
If Scotland ever becomes independent, I'll be happy to come back."

And another - we are not alone ...

"I have just returned from a little break in Madeira. I was slightly apprehensive about my return because of some horror stories I read online. All went well though. My favourite part was passport control in madeira though. All flights going out when I left went to the UK. There was a humongous queue at the " All passports" line, the EU passport line was empty. My Scottish husband was allowed to accompany me to the EU line. We both walked past the hundreds of people waiting and got loads of dirty looks and irate comments. The demographic of the people in the queue was older. I'm not saying they all voted for Brexit but quite a few of them certainly did so it felt amazing to swish past them. My husband was equally " swishing" and said he felt victorious. This is what it feels to be European 😊"

Along ith you @vera99 I am becoming more and more ashamed to be British. The way those who immigratedd here are treated terribly. Not by me, I hasten to add; I bought a car from a chap who's lived here for twenty years, don't know which country he came from because I didn't ask. I apologised for the shitshow that is Brexit, and we got on alright. At least he knows there's one man who's prepared to stick his head above the parapet to save his right to live here.

I have friends who came here from Eastern Europe and the Baltic #states who now are British citizens, they get shit almost every day. It's really fucking dispiriting and I feel for them. Their employer has a plant in Poland as well as two in Britain and might feel it will be better for him and his mostly Eastern European workforce if he relocates his business there. And i wouldn't blame him.
