Brexit Megathread - Part 1 because it's not over by a long shot

Started a new thread for all things Brexity as the last generic dumping ground reached its 1000 post limit. As this developing shitshow unfolds it's going to be important to share and unload. Clav of course will punt a contrarian view along with unrepentant 'taking back control' so-called Brexiteers. I look forward to seeing the benefits.

Start a new thread if you want to harp on about Labour party internal issues. This is about Brexit.

We're all going to be eating the fucking squirrels for Christmas, at this rate Grin

Except this of us with an artisanal local farm shop within strolling distance, of course.

vera99 · 27/09/2021 10:45

You'll probably have to do the picking yourself though - mind your back. Foxes have sorted out the squirrel problem in our garden and I'm not eating them.

As long as somebody somewhere else is experiencing something that is less than ideal, therefore ToryBrexitannia is great! 🐿🐿🐿🐿

prettybird · 27/09/2021 10:51

@vera99 Our cats catch squirrels on occasion Grin

Your friends in France should be used to fuel shortages - 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019...

But not now. Stay on topic, Clavi. 2 year old news about bad things happening elsewhere doesn't validate your 'Brexit is great' position.

I thought the sculpture in Cannon Hill Park was lovely by the way.

Nice deflecting Clavinova but not sure how that stacks up as a justification of the current fuel shortages and empty shelves in this country.

I don't see why "friends in France" would be "horrified/incredulous".

Jan 2020 here - so less than 2 years;

Clavinova · 27/09/2021 11:00

I have to go out now. Wink

pointythings · 27/09/2021 11:02

Jan 2020 - so a year and 9 months ago. You are mathematically correct in saying this is less than two years ago, but it's still completely irrelevant.

And of course you have to go out.

RunningOnFumes · 27/09/2021 11:06

I expect they are just jealous and would much prefer to be buying their petrol and food here, Clavinova Hmm

prettybird · 27/09/2021 11:10

But they're better petrol queues and shortages because they are British petrol queues and shortages Wink

TheABC · 27/09/2021 11:19

It's weird...even my Brexity parents have gone quiet. They will not admit to rethinking their vote but they are muttering about how "the Government has stuffed it up."

I don't think the Brexiteers will ever blame themselves. But if the PM and his cabinet do not get a handle on this soon, the blame-game will be hunting them.

There was also talk about an early election with the recent reshuffle. It will be interesting to watch the timing on this one (presumably between crisis).

wewereliars · 27/09/2021 11:25

People who gleefully wang on about how wonderful life is in la la land, and who have actively championed the dangerous nonsense that is now crippling the country, and in particular the most vulnerable in it, are not amusing or whimsical or clever.

They are a self absorbed, solipstistic stain on this country

RunningOnFumes · 27/09/2021 11:28

Yes, I guess that now the US trade deal has disappeared and we've fallen behind on vaccinations, there isn't too much for them to cling onto.... and we haven't even "done" Brexit yet - still have the joy of the inbound customs checks etc to look forward to. Oh joy.

HannibalHayeski · 27/09/2021 11:29

Ah, so shortages due to industrial action are worse than shortages due to lack of supply.

Who knew?

vera99 · 27/09/2021 11:30

Arch loon Steve Baker of the European Research Group is shilling the position of the wrong kind of Brexit and that it's a shambles and this was back in August ffs.

HannibalHayeski · 27/09/2021 11:40

Ah yes, because, obviously, a no deal Brexshit as the embarrassingly named ERG were pushing for would have made supply chains so much better...

pointythings · 27/09/2021 12:19

The bottom line is that other countries may have occasional supply chain issues due to internal disruptions, like the strikes in France. What they do not have are structural, self-inflicted supply chain issues due to complete government ineptitude and voter delusion.

vera99 · 27/09/2021 12:23

Petty I know......

European leaders blame Brexit for UK petrol crisis

Some of Europe's biggest political names have blamed Brexit for the ongoing petrol crisis engulfing the UK.

Clement Beaune, France's Europe minister said: "We see the intellectual fraud that Brexit was, especially on the issue of immigration.

"They are responding to it today by re-Europeanising themselves, because they realise that it does not work on their own."

Meanwhile in Berlin, Olaf Scholz suggested it was a consequences of ending free movement.

"We worked very hard to convince the British not to leave the Union. Now they decided different, and I hope that they will manage the problems coming from that," the man expected to named chancellor said. "This is a problem to be solved
