Because there doesn't seem to be a new thread yet. I'm no RTB or any of you other experts, but these threads need to keep going.

Give me a couple weeks and I'll be able to post cat placemarks!

@QueenOfThorns

You wouldn't know from the BBCs front page ..

Not only this, but they have omitted the Sun (which broke the story) from the round up of today’s front pages… Angry

Pretend it isn’t happening and it’ll all go away?

I think the standards we all expect from competent govt has fallen to all time lows.

Affairs are not really considered a worthy news item now, let alone a resigning matter.

The only predictable response seems to be "....... but what about Labour?"

SpindleWhorl · 25/06/2021 08:52

I'd put a tenner on Cummings being involved in the exposure of Door Matt.

jasjas1973 · 25/06/2021 08:55

Maybe but the most interesting thing is that it was the SUN that broke this story.

Peregrina · 25/06/2021 09:01

I see that there is already a thread on this! Filling up too. But one theory put forward is that Johnson can't sack him, but this now gives him an excuse.

I was interested in this too. Also the timing/motivation/and so on. They’re all such lying, back stabbing snakes it could be anyone for any reason. Both Covid (terrible situation in schools) and Brexit (terrible situation in just about every sector) offer instances deserving of major distraction, the final downfall of a minister already described as useless would seem to have its attractions for a Government desperate to deflect attention.
jasjas1973 · 25/06/2021 09:53

Yes Delta variant is running at 35k per week and increasing, with approx 20m not double vaccinated, this could still cause the us all a lot of problems.

Most people will snigger at Hancock but it won't change their vote, much more interested in going on holiday.

DrBlackbird · 25/06/2021 10:08

Amazing how many posters on the other thread are supporting MH.

Either Tory voters or have had affairs themselves or just massively missing the point?

Well you have to feel sorry for those Westminster politicians... with all that cctv it'll make it so much more challenging to find a quiet place for an illicit tryst.

FrankieStein402 · 25/06/2021 10:29

On this occasion, unfair jabs at the bbc - the raw story is 'personal' would not expect it on website front page - it wasn't on the Guardian site either - but both now have shapps response to the story when he was queried this morning on BBC R4 wrt propriety of her appointment - which is far from personal and well into cronyism.

Criticism of the beeb does need to avoid playing into the hands of this government that wants to emasculate it.

prettybird · 25/06/2021 10:33

To be fair on the BBC, they did cover it with their political correspondent on BBC Breakfast - but only indirectly alluding to the affair personal aspect, saying that there may be issues if it turns out that there was a personal relationship and what was the nature of it as she was involved in the award of contracts.

Peregrina · 25/06/2021 10:49

Another piece of getting Brexit done which wasn't part of the Oven Ready Deal.

Good news for those involved though. I am not sure what the status is of French licence holders in the UK. The report doesn't mention that.

DGRossetti · 25/06/2021 19:13

Interesting ruling

The Irish opinion of Brexshit;

The UK was groomed

HappyWinter · 25/06/2021 19:31

I'm also guessing the revelations about Hancock are a distraction from the Delta variant going up so quickly and the various pieces of Brexit related bad news. I'm not sure we are far enough ahead with vaccinations to open up fully on 19th July, or at least without any local restrictions I know they said no more local lockdowns, but they are famed for changing their minds at the last minute. Huge problems with school isolations at the moment.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 25/06/2021 20:08

Agree HappyWinter I'm in an area of the great unclean North Tyneside and cases here are sky rocketing. My DD is in a small village Primary and we have largely escaped unscathed. However, parents with kids in the Middle School (literally next door) are only getting 2 days relief between pupils repeatedly self isolating.

prettybird · 25/06/2021 20:11

At least most of the Scottish schools have now finished for the holidays Wink and so were also able to avoid the "One Britain, One Nation" nonsense Grin

DrBlackbird · 25/06/2021 22:46

After twice semi stockpiling now we're looking at shortages... and it's not even due to our inept govt putting customs checks in place as they're meant to be doing Hmm

Fnib · 26/06/2021 07:36

The checks are now meant to be changing in October and January now, aren't they?
I maintain a rolling semi stockpile now.
I wonder what will happen in shops as that article and others become mainstream @DrBlackbird
If they even do.

Fnib · 26/06/2021 07:54

Reading the article again, I'm not sure if I understand why there are food shortages being predicted when we already have shortages of workers. If this is the case, why do we not already have problems with empty shelves? Is it expected to be worse than it is currently, where for example there was not a banana to be had in our local Sainsbury last week? Nevertheless pretty shocking that Tesco has cited the waste of 48 tonnes of food due to lack of drivers.

DGRossetti · 26/06/2021 08:19

If this is the case, why do we not already have problems with empty shelves?

Sainsburys have perfected the art of making shelves look full by deception. I imagine there's a course you can go on.

Over the past 5 years, despite the stores getting bigger, I've noticed the actual display areas have shrunk.

pointythings · 26/06/2021 09:03

There are already shortages. I used to be able to get everything I needed in one shop - not any more. And sometimes the thing I want isn't to be had anywhere in my area for some time.

HarrietPierce · 26/06/2021 09:53

in the supermarkets near me , Morrisons, Marks and Spencer food hall, the Co-op and Lidl, all the Broccoli is yellow.

Ellie56 · 26/06/2021 10:19

Yes I've noticed that vegetables, especially broccoli are not looking very fresh these days.

And you need to go first thing to the supermarket - if you go later it looks like a swarm of locusts have descended.

Fnib · 26/06/2021 10:38

Interesting. I shop first thing on a thurs so I've been able to get everything I need. I think my question was, is this it, and will it get worse?

Peregrina · 26/06/2021 10:42

You have to laugh The Telegraph is blaming BT opportunism for bringing back EU roaming charges, not Brexit.

Now what was that about the Freedom to make our own laws? In the EU BT would not have been allowed to do this. As I reminded you, May crowded about the lack of roaming charges being a result of Tory policies.

Peregrina · 26/06/2021 10:45

Crowed - not crowded, but I think you get the gist.
