I can certainly remember Farage extolling the virtues of Norway not being in the EU. Then he perhaps realised that they are in Schengen and have Freedom of Movement, and shut up.

When will Johnson do the U-turn and pretend that he never supported Brexit?

borntobequiet · 03/06/2021 21:49

Some interesting and original thinking on here this evening.

HannibalHayeski · 03/06/2021 21:53

That's one way to describe it...

Fucking brexit is still giving. The British shop in Gothenburg, a small business run by brits in Sweden, supplying other brits with some home comforts has been forced to close its doors due to having no stock because of brexit red tape. Thanks too all the fools who voted for this, stripping people of their livelihoods both at home and abroad.

It's all worth it though because.....blue passports, sovrinty.... fish

FatCatThinCat · 04/06/2021 15:03

I don't want a blue passport and they shove their sovrinty. I want Cadbury's chocolate, crumpets and some Bisto.

The British shop in Gothenburg, a small business run by brits in Sweden

They have closed their doors for less than two days. They seem a bit chaotic. Meanwhile, these two British ladies have just won 'Store of the Year' in the Malmö City Awards -

A bit OTT but I like this;

28 May 2021- Malmö City Awards 2021
Big congratulations to the Store of the Year: Taste of Britain! (Facebook)

When you walk in the door, you have left the city and travelled abroad. In the background, British radio is played, the goods are neatly arranged with care and reflection. As you inhale the warm and cozy feeling, your gaze is met by a big smile and BBC radio is overwhelmed by a happy "Welcome!" from the staff. In addition to a trip abroad at home, Taste of Britain also provides insight into how to run a store in the best way. The wide range not only gives you a taste of Great Britain, the professional service, competence and genuineness give you the whole experience!

Perhaps the Gothenburg duo should contact them for some advice - genuinely - they have Cornish clotted cream and scones available today in Malmö today.

More info on the Malmö shop here - 23 May 2021;
small, independent shop owned by two ‘homegrown British ladies’ (their own description) imports and sells a terrific selection of British food, drinks and gifts, including a wide array of traditional British black tea brands and all the tasty treats you’d want to accompany your ‘cuppa.’ Taste of Britain also stocks quite a few British pantry staples like Marmite, crumpets, and sausage rolls...

Trust Clavinova to find a cut and paste about something she knows nothing about.

Made up figures and "Irish economists disagree" with their findings;

"Ireland’s services exports boom has clearly mainly been due to ICT exports (Facebook, Google etc)” ... “These companies were already operating in Ireland prior to the referendum and have seen explosive growth since then.”

She's suggesting a 10 hour round trip to buy a £4 pack of crumpets as a solution to brexit. No wonder we're screwed.

No - I'm suggesting that Brexit hasn't stopped the small independent store in Malmö winning 'Store of the Year.'

Did you like the reference to the EU's "dictatorship like rule" from the duo in Gothenburg?

They probably voted Leave.

As FatCat says, so much of their offer is sold out... mmmmm wonder why?

Bojo's deal wasn't oven ready, perhaps half baked?

I can't possibly imagine why they might have seen "explosive growth" since Brexshit...

Bisto - sold out. Marmite - sold out. Dairymilk - sold out. Lots of their normal stock - sold out.

Yes - I did look at their website before posting - some products are sold out, but not that many, and not necessarily because of Brexit. We've had shortages of some products here because of Covid delays, lockdown stockpiling and the boom in home cooking.

The 250g jar of Marmite is still available on their website - Unilever stopped production of the other jar sizes;

tasteofbritain.se/collections/cupboard-favourites/products/marmite-yeast-extract-250g

Friday 23 April 2021
It’s the news that Marmite lovers everywhere fear most: supplies of the love-it-or-hate-it yeast spread are dwindling.

The current shortage is due to the fact that stocks of yeast, which is supplies by breweries, are down.

Unilever, which produces Marmite, confirmed that it is hoping the reopening of pubs and breweries will increase beer production and therefore supplies of yeast.

“As a temporary measure we have stopped production of all sizes apart from our 250g size jar which is available in most major retailers.”

www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/marmite-shortage-supplies-stocks-b1836374.html

There are 4 (out of 5) varieties of Bisto available on their website. Demand for Bisto has clearly increased;

20 May 2021
A home cooking boom during the pandemic spurred a surge in profits at Premier Foods, prompting the Bisto maker to pay its first dividend in 13 years.

Lots of chocolate bars are still in stock on their website - including several Dairy Milk bars;

I have visited both Sweden and Denmark by the way. Oh, and no need to mention your law degree - I didn't bother to tell you yesterday, but I have an LLB myself.

jasjas1973 · 04/06/2021 19:37

NI has had a lot of shortages too... far more than GB, that bojo deal again.
