More unintended consequences Hmm from the most incompetent government since Incitatus turned out to be waaaaaaaaaaay overqualified.

www.theregister.com/2021/06/02/ir35_outsiders_getting_leverage_in/

Contractors able to continue working outside the IR35 regulations are gaining leverage in the market and succeeding in punting their scarce skills, according to a survey.

The nice thing is hearing wheels spin backwards ... and the slowly dawning realisation (for some) that they will have to keep on inventing new excuses for their pisspoor performance every press release.

The varying excuses peddled to the voyagers on Golgafrincham Ark B spring to mind. I have no doubt we're going to see a lot of directors who haven't got the memo trying to think things up on the fly

This has made my day 😂😂😂

prettybird · 02/06/2021 15:48

From the BBC article above: He [Tim Martin] added that Wetherspoons was not struggling to recruit, and in some towns, such as Northallerton, jobs at its pubs were oversubscribed.

Hmm

That would suggest that in most as opposed to "some" Wink towns, jobs were either filled by everyone who applied however good or bad they were or they were undersubscribed, and he couldn't fill all the positions Confused

In which case, that would suggest that he wasn't taken out of context by The Telegraph Confused

Peregrina · 02/06/2021 17:41

I would be very surprised if he wasn't having trouble recruiting in the south of England. I must have a look to see whether the local Wetherspoons is advertising for staff.

jasjas1973 · 02/06/2021 17:58

Education Catch up Tsar resigns over underfunding... asked for 15b, got 1.4b.Doubtless this is a policy @yellowspanner also fully supports too?

Good to see a public servant actually point out this shoddy govt's failings, only been in the job a few months.

My partners son has just got a job in wine bar, he was the only applicant. He is articulate, can make 45 cocktails of the top of his head and has previous experience.

Spotlight SW (local BBC news) saying huge shortage in chefs and bar staff.

yellowspanner · 02/06/2021 19:00

Jasjas, please stop telling me what I do or do not support. I can make my own mind up and don't need prompting.

I did say there is a tsunami of money being pumped into training. To paraphrase the immortal words of Lloyd Bridges, looked like I picked the right time to reenter IT.

Peregrina · 02/06/2021 19:11

Well yellowspanner, you have already told us how you are happy with Johnson and how he's dealing with things, so it's not unreasonable to assume that you are happy with the Education Tsar resigning.

HannibalHayeski · 02/06/2021 19:14

@yellowspanner

Jasjas, please stop telling me what I do or do not support. I can make my own mind up and don't need prompting.
And yet you never actually tell us whether you agree with these things.

It's almost like you can't bring yourself to admit that it's shit...

yellowspanner · 02/06/2021 19:28

Hannibal, I post what I want to say not answers to your and JasJas' questions. I am under no obligation to answer.

yellowspanner · 02/06/2021 19:30

Peregrina, I am sure you feel free to assume whatever you want regardless of its basis in fact.

HannibalHayeski · 02/06/2021 19:57

And in face of the fact that you won't answer any of the "awkward" questions, we're free to infer whatever we want.

I.e. that you're not a very nice person...

Peregrina · 02/06/2021 20:11

I personally won't make any assumptions as to how nice a poster is - they may be absolutely fine in real life. It is however impossible to accept that something is a basis in fact when no comment is given. the fact is that someone Johnson appointed has felt he has to resign. IMO that does not reflect well on Johnson.

But hardly in the spirit of the forum or this thread - which like an informative conversation amongst friends at a pub......
pointythings · 02/06/2021 20:21

yellowspanner you are completely entitled to not answer. But the consequences of that are simple: every time we post evidence of government wrongdoing and outright cruelty and you do not voice your disapproval, we're going to assume you approve of that behaviour. And we are going to make assumptions about the kind of person you are. Choices, consequences.

jasjas1973 · 02/06/2021 20:21

Jasjas, please stop telling me what I do or do not support. I can make my own mind up and don't need prompting.
Sorry Yellow, i was asking, not telling, apologies if that wasn't clear.

I would just like to understand what you mean when you say "i support Johnson and his policies"

You are brave enough to come on here and debate in the lions den (so to speak) it would be good if we could all ask questions of about our respective views? and get some answers

Surely you can understand that.

We were taking about this the other day, people with some quite extreme views, on allowing migrants to drown in the Med/English channel, would also dive into our local river and risk their lives to save a drowning child (who comes from Ethiopia etc)

Its very weird.

borntobequiet · 02/06/2021 22:05

I think twat has moved far enough from its original meaning to be generally not very offensive. Calling someone a twat means they’re a bit dim but not otherwise malicious. Calling someone a cunt means they’re far worse.
I try not to use either because it seems a shame to use words for a nice thing in a derogatory way. I’d call you a cunt, but you lack the warmth and depth is often quoted, but it’s not clear who first said it about whom.

yellowspanner · 02/06/2021 22:37

Hannibal, infer what you like about me. I don't care. But, of course I also infer about people.

I am amused that you think you are like "lion's den". 😀 This is nothing more than an anonymous internet chat.

I have said repeatedly on this and previous, similar threads what I like about Boris Johnson and our Government.
I like that he did what he promised to do which was to implement the result of the EU referendum. And received an increased majority because of it.I thought some in Parliament were determined to stop Brexit. And despite what people on here feel the result of the referendum was clear; narrow, but clear.

I like the new points based immigration system because it will allow people from outside the EU to come and settle here more easily. I didn't like free movement because it applied to Europeans only. I think we should be able to deport economic migrants, particularly those who make spurious claims to stay. And they do. As I have said before my DS is a barrister who works in this area.

I am glad we are free from the ECJ...and before you all tell me that I don't know the difference between that and the ECHR....I do.

I will continue to post on here politely and to say what I want to say. I won't and never have insulted other posters or called them nasty names.

Possibly more bad news for the government. Really hope the Tory rebels manage to get the votes they need and win this one. It was a pointless policy change aimed at a specific group of voters at the expense of people most in need.

HannibalHayeski · 02/06/2021 23:20

I am amused that you think you are like "lion's den"

I haven't the foggiest what you mean by this!

Anyway, it's clear you're not a very nice person, but as you don't mind me saying it, I don't mind saying it either. I think you're also either quite dim, in that you don't understand many things, or lacking in self awareness to understand that many things this government is doing are frankly evil.

Also that you think the result of the referendum was clear, given all we know about it now, is either very stupid, or deeply disingenuous.

HannibalHayeski · 02/06/2021 23:24

Anyway, here's something tp gladden the hearts of all those Welsh Brexshittiers...

DrBlackbird · 02/06/2021 23:42

I lived in Zimbabwe for a time and found this amongst the white farmers. They'd say the most horrendous racist comments about the general population/politicians but be unfailing polite and have friends with individuals. It's this individual/group separation, which is weird.

At the same time I find myself doing the same thing about Tories....
