I've got no skin in the game where Scotland is concerned so good luck to them whatever happens.

Yess, I still think it's dumb but I'm waiting for the referendum in NI

So am I Wink (but I don't think it's going to come for a few years).

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 16:56

@HeyHeyImABeLeaver , I never thought it would be in my lifetime. Now I'm absolutely certain of it. It's already separated from GB now - that lasted 100 years.
Maybe it will stay as a Freeport of some kind. Or maybe it will join Ireland again (if Ireland also voted for it). Either way, it's pretty much out of the UK.

Otellie · 01/01/2021 17:13

Ah, you read the thing on the BBC about how anyone who hates Brexit is grieving.

I did read it, but as it's a field I work in I could see this anyway. I didn't need the BBC article to guide me on something that's pretty obvious. And obviously denial and lack of insight into the individual grieving process is difficult for some people to acknowledge when they're living it.

Can you accept the break up of the UK that you've initiated?

If it ever happens then I will accept it. Can you? And just so you know, I haven't initiated this. I just chose to move on and not be embittered by it all.

DoubleTweenQueen · 01/01/2021 17:16

How nice for those who are able to 'mive on' and not really care much about what's happening!

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 17:18

I can't wait for the break up of the UK. I'm a dual Irish/British citizen with family in Scotland. I'm really pleased that it's on its way in the near future.
I liked the status quo but that's over. Here's another bit of the status quo I want over.
I also want electoral reform and replacement of the House of Lords with an elected Senate.
As of 11 pm last night, that stuff is all possible now.

LurkingLeaver · 01/01/2021 17:19

because I love watching how you lot deal with the reality of what you've done.

You must admit it is a bit....obsessive? You hate us, think we are racist bigots, have destroyed the UK blah blah blah......why on earth do you cling to us with such ferocious desperation? It's weird.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 17:21

I don't hate you. But I'm enjoying watching the dawning realisation of what you've done.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 17:22

Obsessive? Whatever .. it's your Brexit, you're still here.

HeyHeyImABeLeaver · 01/01/2021 17:24

@bellinisurge - never in my lifetime did I think I would find myself in a situation where I'm only allowed out of my house for essential shopping or exercise and that to enter a shop I had to wear a face mask and remain 2m from anyone else at all times.

I now wouldn't rule anything out at anytime despite how far fetched it might seem. What will be will be.

DoubleTweenQueen · 01/01/2021 17:24

It's also very important to question and push back, and hold the Gvmnt to account, which includes joining in on SM. It's not grief.

Otellie · 01/01/2021 17:29

I don't hate you. But I'm enjoying watching the dawning realisation of what you've done.

What dawning realisation would that be then? Because the majority of Brexiteers seem pretty joyful to me. You really wish there would be a dawning realisation. But there isn't. Not for the majority there isn't. But if believing that helps you cope then you have a long way to go.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 17:29

See, if I'd done a cowardly name change like a lot of the Arms crowd, you wouldn't know it was the same person laughing at what's been done.
You'll need a new flag, by the way, when you lose NI and Scotland for good. Maybe some of the meme makers on here could start a new project.

LurkingLeaver · 01/01/2021 17:38

Bellini, maybe if you had a name change and a break from here, you'd feel better??

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 17:40

Yes, because you only want to hear your own voices in here😂😂😂

TerryHearn · 01/01/2021 17:43

These remainer clowns want to be proven “right” on Brexit. They urge for it. It’s an itch they cannot scratch. They yearn for self-confirmation that Brexit was wrong. That it was a folly. They have a permanent state of Walter Mitty where they imagine Brexiteers realising en masse one day that they got it wrong and we should have stayed.

All a bit sad really. Borne out of arrogance and too long in an echo chamber. Democracy outfoxes those who think they know best. That’s what it’s there for. Why it is the only way the world can be run. It controls metropolitan elites and puts them back in their place when required.

If you are looking for anyone here to admit something that hasn’t happened with regard to Brexit then you will be waiting for a very long time. If I was waiting for a Remainer to admit they were now a leaver then similarly I would be waiting a very long time. You have to respect different viewpoints. Otherwise you will send yourself mad.

LurkingLeaver · 01/01/2021 17:49

Borne out of arrogance
So very, very true. The sheer belief they have that they, only they, have the knowledge and understanding to vote correctly.

Otellie · 01/01/2021 17:53

You'll need a new flag, by the way, when you lose NI and Scotland for good

New flag wont be needed. As that won't be happening.

I do think it's pretty sad that people like you actively want the UK, which I presume you actually live in, to fail. Because it's not want you wanted. You didn't win the vote. That's life. I think it's extremely likely that you will continue to be sad and bitter for a long time yet. Some things are out of your control. You can learn to deal with that for your own mental health. Or you can be bitter about it for the rest of your life. Either way, the only person your state of mind will make a difference to is you, and your immediate family.

Otellie · 01/01/2021 17:57

So very, very true. The sheer belief they have that they, only they, have the knowledge and understanding to vote correctly.

Yes. This. It's an extremely unpleasant and arrogant position. Hence the inability to accept the loss when the vote went against them.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 17:58

Don't want it to fail but the four nation UK project no longer works. I think England should strike out on its own .
And I'm a dual Irish/British citizen. So I care about NI.

Otellie · 01/01/2021 18:09

I think England should strike out on its own

Oh well, that won't happen either.

sally067 · 01/01/2021 18:18

Democracy outfoxes those who think they know best. That’s what it’s there for. Why it is the only way the world can be run. It controls metropolitan elites and puts them back in their place when required.

Yeah referendums are such a great way to decide things in a democracy, 'the will of the people' really encompasses all points of view. Can you honestly say that in the 2016 referendum the general population was suitably informed to vote on the issue, that people knew exactly what they were voting for and that both sides were truthful in the way arguments were put forward.

Doubt you've even opened a history book and understand the reason referendums are seldom used:
March 1929 – Italy approves single-party list for Mussolini’s National Fascist Party in referendum.
July 1933 – Hitler grants himself the power to hold referendums.
November 1933 – Germans vote to leave the League of Nations in referendum.
March 1934 – Italians confirm approval of single-party list for Mussolini’s National Fascist Party in referendum.
August 1934 – Germans approve combining posts of Chancellor & President in referendum.
March 1936 – Germany approve single-party rule & occupation of Rhineland in referendum.
April 1938 – Germans approve single list of Nazi candidates for Reichstag & Anschluss with Austria in referendum.

Russia's incursion into Crimea was also justified using referendum.

The EU referendum required a largely uninformed electorate to make a choice between the status quo and an extremely unpredictable outcome. Do you think referendums help in the constitutional protection of minorities and that a 52% to 48% win should mean an outright win whereby the 48% are completely ignored?

TerryHearn · 01/01/2021 18:18

Britain was a net contributor. Hence the EU was sorry to see us go. Why does the EU need another mouth to feed in Scotland? The SNP’s position is the equivalent of resigning from an overpaid job to go on the dole (paid for by the EU). Why do they need Scotland? How many net contributors do the EU have left to pay for them? How can Scotland economically support itself outside of the UK without immediately joining the EU?

They can crack on and see what happens I suppose.

TerryHearn · 01/01/2021 18:19

Britain and NI I should say.

bellinisurge · 01/01/2021 18:22

"Oh well, that won't happen either."
Losers like me said that about Brexit 😂😂😂
