...to ask Brexit supporters on here whether they might now be having second thoughts?

Just that really. Would love to hear from Brexiteers on here whether they still believe in 'taking back control' at all costs, now that it's pretty clear there will be no deal, and the practical and economic implications will be huge...

I’ve lived in US it was pretty good actually. Like anywhere it depends where you are.

@Miljea

"Back in the 90s, a friend of mine wanted to become a nurse and could not get a place on a course. Why? Because the number of places available had been cut to the bone by Blair, who was instead 'importing' as many nurses as possible from the EU, all fully trained".

Well, 30 years later, where I work, the EU staff have gone, and have been replaced by Nigerians, Jamaicans and Indians. Some not so 'fully trained', I might add.

How is that the fault of the EU?

Maybe, just maybe it's the fault of successive right-learning or just plain Right Wing governments? With their short-term, under-cutting profiteering mindset?

Lay the blame where fault lies.

I know plenty of nurses who trained in the 1990s, all from the UK. I’d say that maybe there were other reasons your friend didn’t get a place.

No. Nor can I. I just wouldn't get up in the morning if I had such a gloomy outlook. That might be pure self preservation but the sum of my experience suggests that most people are highly adaptable and we'll make the most of it. It's a leap of faith but preferable to the alternative.

bellinisurge · 11/12/2020 12:44

Curious to think that "a leap of faith " is somehow better than not jumping off a cliff.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/12/2020 13:05

I'm not looking to fight Bellinisurge, it's just my point of view, I don't insist that you adopt it.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/12/2020 13:09

Anyway, I'm a remainer. I'd rather not be anywhere near a cliff face. I've got no power over the outcome so hope appears to be the only resource to hand. And in the meantime this dark damp country is filled most of my favourite people Grin

bellinisurge · 11/12/2020 15:00

There's been an awful lot of "I voted Remain but I think we should move on and embrace the future " type posts on here.

As the young people say " just sayin'"

I'll embrace what I damn well like and I don't think these Brexiteer clowns deserve my deference to their stupid fucking nonsense.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/12/2020 15:19

Well, I think I've had this name for the whole time Brexit has been a thing, I'd have to have been playing an awfully long game to be posting consistently throughout and to what end?

Just to say I'm hopeful things won't pan out to be as bad as some fear - that there is room to be hopeful beyond the short term? It doesn't real have the controversial pop that makes for a good return on lying for years.

bellinisurge · 11/12/2020 15:27

Good for you. But I'm not giving those dicks the comfort of embracing them.
My country will come back to me but not until after they've had their Suez Crisis moment and discover we are a valuable nation for reasons other than the fuckwitted shite they are spouting.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/12/2020 15:33

Yeah, fine. We're just different. I won't offend you with my Pollyanna outlook - it's just healthier for me.
