Westministenders: Its the waiting that kills you

Just waiting.

Talks between Frost and Barnier still unresolved issues. There are rumours but 'all without evidence' (the new in phrase on BBC news tonight) that the UK is waivering.

Less that two months to go.

And there is the small matter of what happens in the US than might influence events.

Even taking your conservative figure of 51.49%

I'm sticking with Biden 50.7% - from Associated Press.

It's really pathetic. Posturing lecturing letter to President-Elect of global superpower, telling lies about another global superpower, from an arrogant deluded arse (who isn't even our PM) of a medium-sized declining fracturing country still harbouring aged delusions of faded grandeur.

But LOOK! AT! THOSE! 🐿🌰🥜🌰🥜🐿! They make the posturing lecturing lies just fiiiiiiiiiine Hmm

Nice to see Lord Kilclooney having his arse handed to him on Twitter.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/11/2020 17:41

Wouldn't it be really funny if there were investigations and it turned out some of the Trump ballots were illegal.

I guess it's a possibility. But from what I've seen, read, and been told by friends, it's unlikely. Certainly on a systematic basis.

As we've already seen, the courts have thrown out his claims as there's no evidence. So that's his first hurdle - getting it. Seems "becoz I sez so" isn't enough in a court of law. Who'd have thunk it ?

Sadly reading loads of US commentators saying "Bet you can't wait to get rid of him next election" and being absolutely gobsmacked that we still have peerages and are stuck with him.
Peregrina · 09/11/2020 17:54

Strangely enough my results were also from the Associated Press, I now see. Someone did link to an American site which was more up to date.

As I understand it, he's not from the Tory party, so does that mean he won't merit an assistance squirrel?

Ah yeah DGR, just wishful thinking for amusement's sake.

I'll have to be content with that pair of QAnoners who got caught with their truck load of fake ballots.

I'm pretty sure all ballots were scrutinized even more than usual due to the circumstances. I'd imagine nobody wanted to be responsible for their state having any irregularities.

Thanks to the scrutiny, it seems the US system is actually quite robust once you get voters and ballots together.

So the best way to game the system is to intervene before that point - by gerrymandering and fiddling with peoples right to vote.

Just because the election process is fair, doesn't mean the electoral process is ...

(See also: suffrage in the United Kingdom)

The funniest thing - and part of the delay - was Trumps bright idea to telegraph well in advance his intention to attack mail in votes. Meaning a whole bunch of people who had mailed votes in decided to vote in person meaning their postal votes had to be located and removed.

Now that would be interesting ... (is there a precedent. Or even President ?)

Zixxy · 09/11/2020 19:18

Re Obama and Us Ambassador to UK, I suppose when you are the former President it might be automatic. But I can't see the urgency. Threat to Tories maybe? How does the current Ferrero Rocher Ambassador feel about this?

Not buying it for now anyway, unless current Ambassador is being reassigned or is retiring.

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 19:23

Woody Johnson is a Trump supporter.
He knows his days are numbered

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 19:24

Remember that a LOT of overseas appointments were left empty by Trump
and others given to utterly inappropriate people
who will be replaced pretty quickly

Thanks, that may explain the speculation re Obama.
ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 19:33

TBH I doubt Obama would take it.
Why would he and Michelle want to move away from their daughters for several years?
The Ambassador's house is great but its a narrow role for him.
WTO judge would be much more entertaining .

I agree, but who knows? Their girls are adults now and are doing their own thing.

With due respect to Ambassadors, is it THAT good a deal? They seem to have to stay schtum most of the time.

As you say some International role maybe. Obama definitely had to wait for the end of the Trump Administration to put himself out there for a decent role. We shall see.

Obama as Ambassador to the uk is just too good to be true.

I so wish it was though. Oh that would be soooooo funny.

If Obama was to be an ambassador it would be to the EU. UK will cease to be a 'plum' posting for the US diplomatic corps - behind the EU and Germany if not behind India and France as well.

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 21:11

Frankie
London was always a plum posting because the house is fab
but yes, if its not linked to the EU it will drop down the rankings.

The residence in Belgium is less good for parties
