I got a text to this effect just now from tbe passport service. I know it's a kosher message because I had a message from the same number about my DD's Uk passport application recently. I apparently need a new passport if I want to go to the EU after 31 December 2020.

Firstly, fuck off you cock wombles because I also have an Irish passport so you can stick it up your Brexity arse.

Secondly, do Brexiteers know they have to buy their way into the EU with a new passport.

Thirdly, see Firstly and fuck off.

Is your passport due to expire in the first half of 2021?

JuliaJohnston · 29/10/2020 13:09

What did anyone really expect??

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 13:11

@Aroundtheworldin80moves , nope . 2022

I already love the idea of waving to Brexiteers as I pass them in the queue to enter an EU country (when we can travel again). The idea that they are now all part of a big "pay loads of money to renew your passport " scam fills me with joy.

What about us non Brexiteers? We will be stuck in the same queue
While dual nationality DH and the DC swan past me

loutypips · 29/10/2020 13:21

www.gov.uk/guidance/passport-rules-for-travel-to-europe-from-1-january-2021

It will only be invalid if there's less than 6 months left on it.

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 13:22

Sorry Hoppinggreen .
I have in-laws and spouses of cousins in this position. Although their respective kids are entitled if they get on the Foreign Birth Register .
I know it's shit and I sympathise because this isn't your fault.
But I still take what little pleasure there is in laughing at Brexiteers. Not in real life. Because I'm too scared to. I live in Brexit town.

It is probably similar to the messages sent out last year before the period was expanded:

www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/1084616/brexit-news-uk-passport-office-renew-text-scam-news-latest

UK passports will remain valid and don’t need to be changed due to leaving the EU.
On the assumption that we leave with no deal, or there isn’t a specific agreement on UK to EU travel then our passports will need at least 6 months left.

As full EU members we had freedom to travel in across Europe so just needed a passport to show we were valid Europeans, this currently remains virtually the same in the interim period.
Come Brexit day we become part of the rest of world, so we lose status to use the EU line, and will need to have a passport with at least 6 months remaining before expiry.

It won’t matter if we are still using an EU UK passport or the newer non EU UK passport

RichardMarxisinnocent · 29/10/2020 13:23

What reason have they given for you needing a new passport? I thought only passports with less than 6 months left or which were issued more than 10 years ago (so where in the past extra months were added on renewal making rhe passport bid for more than 10 years) wouldn't be valid. Are there other reasons?

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 13:24

@loutypips , you are wrong. I checked. It (gov.uk) specifically asked me when my passport was to expire. Then it asked me which country I planned to visit- I named an EU one. It told me my passport would no longer be valid for travel there. Presumably until some sort of visa waiver shit us agreed.

It’s ok Bellini they can get the luggage while they wait for me !

RichardMarxisinnocent · 29/10/2020 13:25

Valid not bid

Reference your Irish passport You can happily stroll on past us foreign Brits stuck in the slow lanes
InTheLongGrass · 29/10/2020 13:25

It will only be valid for travel to Europe for 9.5 years after issue.
Previously you could renew a passport upto 9 months before expiry, and carry over 9 months of validity, giving a passport valid for nearly 11 years. Those carried over months are no longer accepted.

PimlicoJo · 29/10/2020 13:27

What a nasty post.

KonTikki · 29/10/2020 13:31

I've just renewed my UK passport because it runs out next June.
If it was valid for longer then I would not need to replace it, until 6 months before the expiry date.
DW passport is valid for another 2 years and she can travel to the EU with it next summer.
We know 'cos we checked when renewing mine.

Well I just checked using early 2022 dates and it said it's valid until 6 months before! Maybe you entered the wrong dates?

It may depend on the country and visa status, mine expires in Feb 2027 and comes up as valid for travel up to Aug 2026 for any countries I’m liable to go to

Currently no visas are expected, but that could always change

Jackparlabane · 29/10/2020 13:34

How long is your planned visit? A tourist visit of up to 90 days (or visits of up to 90 days in 6 months) should be fine, but for a longer stay, or for work or study, a visa or other permission may be required.

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 13:34

My Uk passport runs out in 2022.
This is what it said when I filled all my details in to check if I could use it to travel to an EU country

I just checked and it said my passport is valid for travel until August 2024 which is 6 months before it expires.

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 13:42

Well, apparently a 2022 passport expiry date isn't long enough any more

This. I have just put random dates into the passport checker and the only combination with a 2022 expiry which gets the invalid message is expires 01.01.2022 and issued 01.04.2011. Issued 01.01.2012 is fine.

People with EU passports gloating about them are going to piss me off really soon.
